Beloved Lily passed away July 23rd. Lily, a blind diabetic, suffered seizures in the last few months, and steadily became weaker. She was a loving girl who adored people and her sister, Sadie 18-265, who was successfully adopted into her forever home.
The last seven months with her foster dad were happy, surrounded by Sadie and Lilly (the resident dog) and enjoying belly rubs and head scratches. She really loved and appreciated the attention, and in return made one feel happier for the time with her.
Despite her health challenges, she was a real trouper, hanging in with the rambunctious pack, taking her medicine like a champ, and tolerating the many trips to the devoted vets (a special thanks to Blue Pearl and VCA Richfield). She had many followers rooting her on, and she and her sister touched many people’s hearts.
Coming from a home where she lost both parents she continued to love and blossom—a testament to her foster and the spirit of the Golden Retriever. Lily’s howls got weaker through the months but we all heard them and knew this sweet pup was here. Up to the end, Lily’s tail was wagging strong.

Sweet Lily is staying with her Foster Dad to live out the rest of her days in hospice. Lily, a 12-year-old blind diabetic has had trouble normalizing her blood sugar and experienced a bout of seizures last month, requiring a few overnights at the vet so she could be monitored.
Her blood sugar levels were all over the place with the root cause remaining unknown, but after several studies, a dose has been established that will keep her safe. Special thanks go out to VCA and Blue Pearl for taking great care of her.
She is a sweet girl who has been getting around fairly well, albeit slowly, and gets the love and attention from Dad and resident dog, Lilly (Junior). She is slim but with work is maintaining her weight. She seems to be doing well with no separation anxiety since her sister Sadi’s adoption.

Lily is a slim senior sweetheart who loves her people. This very special 12-year-old Golden embodies the kind, gentle, and loving Golden spirit. Despite her difficult year, having lost both parents and coping with her medical issues, she exhibits typical Golden personality traits—gentle, sweet and happy.
She has medical issues that are being addressed, and progress is being made to make this gal healthier and more comfortable. Lily, a diabetic, has not been adequately managed for a while due to her parents’ health. She is now blind and requires a twice-daily insulin shot, which she handles well.
She has had a hot spot and ear infection that are nearly cleared, but that has prevented proceeding with a diabetic curve study to determine optimal insulin dosage. That day-long study will happen in the next few weeks and will help her feel better with a more precise dosage.
She had an appointment with the ophthalmologist and is a good candidate for cataract surgery, which is scheduled for mid-March. Removing the cataracts could be a game changer, restoring some of her vision and independence. This will help her sister Sadi 18-265 as well, since Sadi has been Lily’s seeing-eye dog, gently guiding and helping her sister.
Both girls love people, and they show their appreciation with wagging tails, nudges, and sometimes high-pitch squeals of happiness when being loved on. They enjoy being next to you and are such sweet girls, their dispositions completely unaffected by their health challenges—typical happy Golden personalities.
Naturally Lily’s activity level is low, basically going in and out to do her business. She has learned the layout of the house and does her exploring, but she generally needs a limited familiar living area. She is spayed and microchipped, and is nondestructive, has no separation anxiety, and displays no resource guarding.
Hopefully the cataract surgery will enable Lily to venture out more, increasing her activity level. She has free roam of the house and sleeps on the floor or dog bed. She will bark to get your attention, particularly if she wants to be part of the party.
Lily is bonded to her sister Sadi 18-265, who is obese and has limited mobility. This pair of special sisters must be adopted together.
