Lily has been adopted by an older couple who live a very quiet lifestyle and have lots of experience with timid breeder dogs. She joins 3 golden retrievers of similar backgrounds who can teach her the ropes and integrate her into the family. Lily will soon be enjoying snowbirding in Florida along with her sisters and owners. Yaaay Lily!

Lily is progressing slowly with baby steps to be able to trust people. Remarkably she’s not frightened of thunder storms or fireworks. But just about everything else sets her back.
She’s learned to come when she’s called but still will not take treats from our hands. So we toss or lay the treat down and she’ll get up to go retrieve it. The rest of our pack has taught her a lot though. She’s always interested in what they’re doing or where they’re going and looks to them for reassurance.
She lets us brush her and clip nails but only if she’s on a leash. She won’t readily come close for that yet whereas the rest of the pack does. She’s a delight though to watch as she experiences new things.

Lily is recovering nicely from her spay. She is very slowly learning to trust. She doesn’t pace in the yard like she did and has actually laid down to relax a bit.
Yesterday she picked up a ball left in the yard and carried it around. So cute. But not interested in playing with it. Gave her a nice new clean one for indoors and she takes it to her bed.
Lily still will not take treats from our hand but gobbles them up after we lay them down for her. She still barks at us if she gets startled and will bolt at any little sound. It’s a slow process for her.

Lily has been adjusting to her new foster home. So far so good. She’s still very timid and unsure of herself and looks to retreat to her safe places. She gets along well with her new “sisters” Lucy, RosiePosie, and Penny. She’s not had any potty accidents and eats well.
Next week Little Lily will be spayed and she’ll celebrate her 2nd birthday. She’ll be getting extra treats for sure. She’s learning to take treats from her fosters’ hands and is making a little progress.
She’s also taking some zoom training classes to overcome her fears. Again, she’s making a little progress. Here’s a picture of a Lily in her surgical suit practicing wearing it because next week she’ll need it. She’s not a good candidate for the cone. It will surely freak her out. But she’s tolerating the suit. Pretty cute in it too.

Sorry it has been so long since our last post. We know now that Lily is not pregnant, so her days of producing puppies are definitely over.
She continues to be very afraid of everything. She is still spending most of her time in the crate. She prefers to be left alone. She doesn’t show any interest in the other dogs. When I take her outside she likes to hide behind me and rest her nose on my leg.
We are giving her the time she needs and hope that she can feel comfortable soon.
She will remain listed as unavailable until she starts showing some signs that she can live in a family setting.
She is a beautiful girl and I cannot wait until she blossoms!

We welcomed Lily into our home last week. She came from a commercial breeder. Sometimes the fosters get to name the dogs coming into our care. I asked my granddaughter what we should name her. Without skipping a beat, she said "Lily." We had not seen a picture of her at the time.
When I met her I realized that name could not be more perfect for her. She is a very light colored Golden Retriever, very fragile and very delicate. She is a very young dog and will turn two in May. Date of birth is May 22, 2018.
Lily is very scared right now. She will need to have some time to settle in and adjust to her new life. She spends a lot of time in her crate. This is her safe spot. When she does come out she wants to hide behind things or cower in a corner.
I have fostered many dogs that come from this kind of background. Some are happy, loving and friendly others are very scared and fearful, they do not know how to trust. Lily is one of the fearful ones. I can see she wants to trust me. It’s just going to take her time to figure things out.
Lily is keeping her crate clean and dry. I am able to get her outside a few times a day so she can take care of her business. She will take a treat out of my hand sometimes and she is eating and drinking in her crate. All of these things are huge for her.
I am hoping to get Lily into the vet this week. I want to make sure she is feeling comfortable with me before I take her in. I know this will be stressful for her.
As with most dogs that come from a commercial breeder background, there is a chance that they are pregnant. We were told that Lily was bred at the end of January. She will be marked unavailable until we know for sure what is going on with her.
