Lorenzo 08-411

Profile

Lorenzo is an adorable Golden Retriever mix puppy. He is approximately 12 weeks old and already weighs 28 lbs so will probably be a big boy. He is said to be 3/4 Golden Retriever and 1/4 mystery breed. He's a fuzzy ball of sweetness whatever he is mixed with.

He has so far been the calmest puppy I have ever had. He has been sleeping a lot and when he is awake he's just chilling. We will see if it is his personality or if he is just resting up from all the recent changes in his life. :)

Lorenzo went to the vet this morning and got his microchip along with his Bordetella and Distemper vaccinations. We will go back next week for his rabies and the following week for his 2nd distemper so that his body has a break in between vaccinations. The vet said he looks wonderful and seems very healthy. It was Lorenzo's first time at a vet and he did remarkably well all things considered. Maybe it was the numerous treats he got that helped him realize it's not such a bad place to go. Lorenzo does have rear dew claws which not many dogs have. They usually don't cause problems but sometimes can get caught on things especially if the dog runs through woods, etc. The vet said that they could be removed when he is neutered but that it can be hard on the dogs since they need to be constantly rebandaged and kept from bothering it. It will be something to watch and decide about when he is closer to being neutered.

He has not had any accidents since arriving 2 days ago and seems to be able to "hold it" for a good couple hours. At nighttime he has been having one potty break in the early morning and then he is fine going back to sleep. He has been sleeping on a dog bed in my bedroom with a baby gate across my door. At first he layed on the floor but since has decided it's pretty comfy to sleep on a dog bed instead of the wood floors.

He has passed the kid test with FLYING colors. I was at my nephew's birthday party yesterday and he slept through almost the whole thing even though there was nearly 20 people there and 6 kids running around. He actually would seek out the kids at times to get a nice pet. He didn't seem to mind the hugs from the 2 1/2 yr old and really did great. Of course he is still a puppy and will jump up at times though he is quickly learning he needs to sit to be pet.

The only "issue" that I have discovered is that he absolutely HATES to be crated. The first time I put him in he was frantically gnawing and pawing at the door and barking. I felt so bad for him so decided to see how he would do if I just baby gated the bedroom door overnight (as I said above he does great). The reality is that at 3 months old he really needs to be crated while nobody is home. This afternoon will be the first time I will have to crate him as I have to work. The vet thinks he will probably be a little tired out from his vaccinations today and I will also give him a Kong with peanut butter in it. I will worry about the little guy but hopefully he will calm down eventually without knocking any teeth out. :)

Enjoy the pics of this sweetie!

Howdy everyone. I had such an exciting day yesterday! FM and I went to the RAGOM fun run/walk and picnic and wow did we have a good time! A lot of people were there to see me and everyone recognized my ears and fuzzy head. I gave out a lot of puppy kisses and showed people how good I am getting at sitting for treats. Then we went to this thing FM said was a lake and I got to play in water. There were lots of other dogs running around and I ran and....SWAM! Yup, FM was so proud of me when I went right out with the big boys and girls and swam. After 5 hours of playing and meeting people I was a very tired boy and slept on the way home. Foster Mom said that this picnic happens every year.....can you believe that? I can't wait to go again....I sure hope my adoptive family brings me again next year!

And speaking of families.....FM said there is a family coming to meet me today, Sunday. She said they are really excited to meet me and might want me to join their family. I will let everyone know how the meeting goes and if I find my forever family!

Hi everyone, it's Lorenzo here. Foster Mom said I could do my own update today since I am such a good boy.

Things are pretty good in my world. I went to the vet today again and I like it there because I get a lot of treats and everyone tells me how cute I am! I got my Bordetella vaccination today but I didn't even flinch 'cause I was chewing on another yummy treat. Oh, and get this....the vet said FM needs to give me a little more food 'cause I didn't gain weight. I must burn off lots of calories just looking cute because now I get as much food as the resident Weim who weighs 60 lbs! YIPPY!!! I am so lucky and I gave the vet lots of kisses to thank her. The vet also said she thinks I look like I might have some Collie in me. FM said someone else said the same thing. Well they will just always have to wonder because I can't tell all my secrets about how my beauty came to be!

I always go potty outside and that makes FM so happy. I don't know why she gets so excited about it....I've gone potty outside my whole life. Oh well, she tells me I am a good boy and that makes me feel happy.

Oh...and I met a cat at the vet clinic today and FM said I passed the "cat test". I smelled the cat and then threw my rear end up in the air to get the little furball to play with me. Guess the cat is old so he didn't want to play with me....I won't take it personal. I know I'm fun to play with......my squeaky toys tell me so. Well at least I THINK that is what they are saying when they squeak squeak squeak when I play with them.

Well I am getting kind of tired, my paws are kind of big for this keyboard. Foster Mom said her camera isn't working today...she found a few pics of me from a couple of days ago but they are not the best. I'll try to help her figure out what's wrong with the camera so we can get more pictures of my handsome self!

See you later!

Lorenzo is doing well and has become more of a "normal" puppy. Sleeping for the first 36 hrs in rescue has made him all rested up and ready to go. He is still one of the calmer puppies I have had but he is keeping me on my toes.

He still has not had an accident in the house since arriving. While I would not call him potty trained....he seems to have the hang of it as long as he goes out every so often. He has whined a few times also when he wants to go outside.....I would say he is well on his way, Pretty amazing for an almost 13 weeks old pup that lived mostly outdoors!

There are a few things that Lorenzo's new family will need to continue to work with him on. He still hates being crated. He has managed to survive when he has been crated. He barks and gets pretty upset but he hasn't hurt himself in all the chaos which is what is important. Secondly, he has started the habit of barking to get the other dogs' attention. There are 3 resident dogs here, Lorenzo has been trying to get my Sheltie to play and of the 3 dogs that is the one who enjoys foster dogs the least. I personally think it is funny that is who Lorenzo continues to try to engage, but Dakota (resident Sheltie) will bark to get Lorenzo to leave him alone and Lorenzo will bark back at him trying to play and around and around we go. I am grateful daily that I have such good neighbors! The other behavior that we are working on is jumping up and play biting. Because he didn't come from a family situation he had no idea he shouldn't jump up on people to get attention. He is getting better at sitting for attention but when the neighbor kids come over he is just too excited and jumps up on them. Being that he is nearly 30 lbs and has some sharp little nails it can be a little painful. Good thing he is so cute because the kids have so far forgiven him for the scratches. :)

Let placementatragom [dot] org know if you would like to meet Lorenzo!
