Lorenzo is an adorable Golden Retriever mix puppy. He is approximately 12 weeks old and already weighs 28 lbs so will probably be a big boy. He is said to be 3/4 Golden Retriever and 1/4 mystery breed. He's a fuzzy ball of sweetness whatever he is mixed with.
He has so far been the calmest puppy I have ever had. He has been sleeping a lot and when he is awake he's just chilling. We will see if it is his personality or if he is just resting up from all the recent changes in his life. :)
Lorenzo went to the vet this morning and got his microchip along with his Bordetella and Distemper vaccinations. We will go back next week for his rabies and the following week for his 2nd distemper so that his body has a break in between vaccinations. The vet said he looks wonderful and seems very healthy. It was Lorenzo's first time at a vet and he did remarkably well all things considered. Maybe it was the numerous treats he got that helped him realize it's not such a bad place to go. Lorenzo does have rear dew claws which not many dogs have. They usually don't cause problems but sometimes can get caught on things especially if the dog runs through woods, etc. The vet said that they could be removed when he is neutered but that it can be hard on the dogs since they need to be constantly rebandaged and kept from bothering it. It will be something to watch and decide about when he is closer to being neutered.
He has not had any accidents since arriving 2 days ago and seems to be able to "hold it" for a good couple hours. At nighttime he has been having one potty break in the early morning and then he is fine going back to sleep. He has been sleeping on a dog bed in my bedroom with a baby gate across my door. At first he layed on the floor but since has decided it's pretty comfy to sleep on a dog bed instead of the wood floors.
He has passed the kid test with FLYING colors. I was at my nephew's birthday party yesterday and he slept through almost the whole thing even though there was nearly 20 people there and 6 kids running around. He actually would seek out the kids at times to get a nice pet. He didn't seem to mind the hugs from the 2 1/2 yr old and really did great. Of course he is still a puppy and will jump up at times though he is quickly learning he needs to sit to be pet.
The only "issue" that I have discovered is that he absolutely HATES to be crated. The first time I put him in he was frantically gnawing and pawing at the door and barking. I felt so bad for him so decided to see how he would do if I just baby gated the bedroom door overnight (as I said above he does great). The reality is that at 3 months old he really needs to be crated while nobody is home. This afternoon will be the first time I will have to crate him as I have to work. The vet thinks he will probably be a little tired out from his vaccinations today and I will also give him a Kong with peanut butter in it. I will worry about the little guy but hopefully he will calm down eventually without knocking any teeth out. :)
Enjoy the pics of this sweetie!
