We are sad to say that Louie (aka Homer) passed away peacefully this past week. Louie had a great life and spent much of his life hiking in the mountains of Montana and making people smile.

He was a great big brother and mentor to his buddy Tundra. We called him Good Dog Louie and he really was. We will forever be grateful to RAGOM for introducing us to this very special guy. He will live in our hearts always.

From Louie's (fka Homer) forever family...

Louie had awfully big shoes to fill to replace the hole in our hearts left by our beloved Black Lab/Golden mix Cowboy after he died of cancer. For such a small puppy, Homer, now known as Louie, quickly made our hearts grow even bigger than we knew possible. Louie soon grew much bigger himself, so much so that we often are asked if Louie is actually part Great Dane because of his oh-so-long legs, instead of the Golden Retriever/Black Lab mix that he is. Big, small, makes no difference, we love all of him!

Louie loves to travel and ride in the car. He doesn't care where he's going, just mention "car ride?" and he's off to the back of the car, waiting to be let in. We often take him on trips to our cabin in Montana where Louie enjoys meeting new people, dogs, and various farm animals, and loves taking long hikes in the mountains. Louie loves everyone he meets - kids, dogs, people, it's all good.

We are so grateful to RAGOM for bringing such a fun loving and sweet dog into our lives. Thanks so much to everyone along the way who worked to bring him to us, you did a great job with him and we are forever thankful!

Louie welcomes people to follow him on his twitter page, where you will find him promoting responsible dog ownership and rescue at http://twitter.com/GoodDogLouie !

Homer has now moved to his new foster home and said goodbye to his brother Humphrey.  He seems to be doing fine away from his brother.  He is such a sweetie, and plays well with our two residents and our other foster Lucy 07-263.  Lucy has taken him in as her own pup and lets him crawl all over her.  When he gets too rambunctious, Lucy rolls him over and pins him to the floor.  Homer also likes to play with one of our cats.  They wrestle and chase each other around the room.  Homer also likes to play with our kids.  My son likes to lay on the floor and then Homer attacks him with lots of kisses and body slams to his head.  Homer is growing quickly, so don't delay on meeting him and missing out on his youth!

Homer is becoming more and more his own little personality. Compared to Humphrey (his brother and current kennel mate) Homer is the quieter of the two. As you can see in the photos, Homer is the more subtle of the pups. A sweeter little puppy would be hard to find. Homer is all black with a heart of pure gold. Homer bounds across the yard in sheer delight. He loves to play with his brother and approaches other dogs on his own terms, if he likes what he sees, he sticks around and plays, if not, he quietly slips away, usually to a cozy spot under a chair for a quick nap, or to a person for a long hug.

If Homer sounds like someone you'd like to love and who's sure to love you, contact Placement.

Homer and Humphrey just returned from the woods and WOW did they have fun, like only little puppies can. EVERYONE we came in contact with just LOVED these two! They are super soft, super sweet, and super duper! House training is going well--as long as we fosters are diligent, hey, no problem.

Homer likes to explore. Friends suggested a rename to Dora the Explorer. Ah, no, I don't think so. Although, yes, adventure is in his blood. Homer sleeps in a kennel, and that's fine. After some initial whining, it's total kennel sleepy time.

Here's some photos of Homer and Humphrey. Instant playmates. Wrestlemania is pretty much an hourly event. Come and meet them both, because it's a complete toss-up on who's cuter, sweeter, and has the better puppy breath!
