Let's give a warm RAGOM welcome to Lucky!

This eight year old gentle giant arrived just hours ago, so of course I don't know too much about him.  I will try to capture more pictures later since Lucky seems to be camera shy.  I can tell you he is a BIG boy who happened upon the napping feline queens and scared them into action!  He completely ignored their antics, so we know cats will not be an issue!  On our walk, a little boy approached and although Lucky was interested, he was happy to pass by him and continue our walk.  Kids:  No problem!  So far, the biggest issue with Lucky has been trying to get a nice photo of him!

Lucky will need to visit the vet and neutering is in his future.  If you are looking for a gentle dog with a big heart, be sure to follow Lucky's updates!

To my friends who have followed my story, my wonderful sponsors, the B family, and the lovely Ginger:  I am HOME!!!

My furever family has a Mom and Dad, grandbabies, neighbors, and a special fur sis, Gracie.  We also have a funny little car that Gracie and I will FILL when we go for rides.

RAGOM: Thank you for being there when this Golden Retriever needed a wayside rest in life.
B Family:  Thank you for so generously helping with my medical needs.
FM:  Thank you for being an oasis on my travels...to IOWA!!!
K Fam: Thank you for making room in your home and hearts for me.  There will always be tail wags for you.  We are going to have a GReat time!

FM here:  The house is empty without this big bear of a dog and the felines have taken over again.  All the best from our Minnesota family to Iowa's newest RAGOM furever home and our buddy, Lucky!

Hey everyone!

FM is getting the car ready for a ride!  She likes to put a blanket down so it's nice and cushy for me in the backseat. We're going someplace I haven't been since I was a puppy:  The VET!!  I'll get some shots and someone said something about getting 'snipped.'  I love to ride in the car and anywhere we go is wonderful.  Here's FM...

When we found out about Lucky's last vet visit, we also found out he is SEVEN YEARS OLD!  (We turned the clocks back an hour and he lost a year - lucky Lucky!)

Lucky's surrendering family was a victim of foreclosure.  They were forced to move to a smaller home and there was no room for him.  He lived for a couple of weeks with a Good Samaritan who really wanted to keep him but her resident dog didn't like being second banana, so she surrendered him to RAGOM. So he is in his third home in less than a month.

Lucky seems to know tricks:  Sit, sit pretty, roll over (really gets him excited), gentle (as in take the treat "gentle").  When we go for a "walk," he gets really close, sits down, and patiently waits for the leash to be attached to his collar.  He pulls hard to start the walk and on ice it's a bit scary, but I think he was trained to walk in a particular manner on a leash.

As much as I think he was worked with, for some reason he is very uncomfortable near any kind of brush or grooming tool, the camera, and tape measure (I was going to measure his girth).  So care and patience will be needed if he is ever to be groomed.

Lucky is a loving, gentle dog who needs a family who can provide him with stability, hugs, ear scratches, AND lots of exercise.  (He weighed-in at a whopping 105.4 pounds!)

"Woof" to Lucky's sponsors:  The B. Family from Winona (and the lovely Ginger)

Woof!!!  Our boy, Lucky, has angels!  Special thanks to his sponsors, Jon & LaVonne B. & their (adopted from RAGOM) river dog, Ginger Joanne (07-614)!  Lucky sends hearty tail and body waggles to Winona!  But there is more to this amazing story:

Last night, I (Foster Mom) was going through RAGOM's Adopted Dogs pages looking for one particular dog. This is no small feat as there are 43 pages with 50 dogs/page!  I randomly paged through the pictures of RAGOM's 2100+ adopted dogs.

For some reason, one dog (from 2007) caught my eye and I read her whole story.  She was a happy-go-lucky GR, bound to find her furever home any minute, when suddenly she was suffering with many health maladies. Out of the blue, this senior gal was in the ICU, face-to-face with the Rainbow Bridge.  I nervously read that there were 3-5 critical days when her fate was uncertain.  After several setbacks, it was over:  She was better!  She and her Foster Mom waited for that perfect furever family...the family who would fall victim to those beautiful cow eyes, the family who would make her a river dog!

Amazingly, of 2100+ dogs...I had just read the whole profile and story of Ginger (07-614)!  And now we've discovered that it is Ginger's adopting family who's sponsored Lucky!

Jon, LaVonne, and Ginger:  Lucky thanks you and sends best wishes to Miss Ginger!!!
