Profile

Lady is here and she is very sweet and cuddly. She's had a rough life, but in spite of everything she is more than willing to give humans another chance and just loves everyone. In December she was thrown out of a car onto a highway by her original owners. Luckily an eye witness rescued her and took her to a vet. She had a badly bruised hip but no broken bones were found on the x-rays. The owners apparently had a drug problem as well as an anger management problem. They agreed to give her to a rescue organization so they would not be prosecuted for animal cruelty. She has been in foster care, but no permanent home was found for her so they asked Ragom to help. They said she was a Golden Retriever/Yellow Lab cross but she really looks like an ivory lab with some hints of Golden in her coat and tail. She wants to be right by you all the time with a paw or head in your lap. She's very "talkative" and makes a lot of moaning, grunting, whining type sounds. She likes to chase tennis balls, chew on bones and sometimes carry stuffed animals.

She's housetrained and slept by our bed all night without a sound. She does not guard things and we can take things out of her mouth. She gets along well with Sunny and really wants to play. She does a lot of cowering, like if a drawer slams or someone picks up a broom or something. She also cowers if people yell. I was cheering for our hockey team on TV and she ran to a corner like she wanted to hide (I'm used to it- sometimes my family does the same thing).

Understandably, she is very hesitant to get in a car, but she will do it with encouragement. She is a little nervous and does a lot of panting in the car, but I hope that will fade after she has some good experience with car rides. She does jump up and likes to lick your hand which I guess were things the original owners REALLY didn't like. It's usually when she's excited and we will work on that. She is spayed and we went to the vet today for microchipping, heartworm and fecal tests and updated shots. The vet said everything looked good - no problems that he could see. Everyone at the vet's office just loved her and remarked on what a great pet she will be for some lucky person.

Some of the rescue people she lived with for a while worked on teaching her sled pulling and skijoring which she enjoys so she would make a great buddy for someone who enjoys winter activities. She knows sit, down and responds well to her name. The previous foster home said she is fine with children one at a time, but was nervous and tried to hide from a group of noisy active children. A home with older children would probably be best. She chases cats, but she loves rabbits. Today I brushed her and cleaned her ears which she didn't mind at all. We will keep her for a few more days to find out more about her personality and habits then she will be ready for her forever home.

Lucy has been with us just over a week and we couldn't be happier! Even with all the adjustments, it's been worth it. We had to drive about 90 minutes to pick up Lucy and were a little concerned about how she would be in the car on the way home. She jumped right in and smiled the entire way home. Once we got home, she jumped into my son's bed and made herself at home. We are VERY glad we found out about RAGOM and are already head over heels in love with Lucy. Our cats have forgiven us for bringing a dog, of all things, into the family and my eight year old son can hardly contain himself. Lucy is a great snuggler at bed time and is getting better each day about responding to commands. We look forward to the years of fun and companionship ahead. Thank you to all the RAGOM volunteers who helped make bringing Lucy into our family a reality.

Hi! My foster mom is letting me write my own update this time! I hope I don't spell any words wrong. I've never used a computer before!

I got to go to the RAGOM picnic this weekend! It was FUN! I got to meet a lot of people and I was really nice to everyone! I did do something a little naughty though. I was so happy around all the other dogs and started barking and barking and I just...couldn't...seem...to...stop! I was so excited! BARK! BARK! My foster mom was getting a little peeved at me, and they made me take a timeout in the car. I was just really really excited!! BARK! oops. Sorry. I don't know what got into me. I don't bark much at our house...but I just think I was so darn happy to be around so many nice people and dogs...I just felt like I had to let...it....out...oops..here comes another one...BARK BARK BARK!

(sorry) I'm better now. I'll be quiet.

My foster mom took me to the vet last week. I think I'm in love. He's so nice and he's cute and he's got soft hands! He looked at my itchies and my ears and I licked him! I mean, I liked him! I even gave him lots of kisses when he gave me a shot for my allergies! I was so wiggly and happy he was laughing at me when he tried to listen to my heart. I just laid down and put all four feet in the air! I was trying to show him how much I liked him! The good news is that pokey shot made my itchies go away! I have gotten several good nights sleeps now! The vet said that shot was cortisone or something and it will be good for 6 to 8 weeks and get me past the worst of allergy season! Yay!!! Otherwise, I am a healthy girl!!

My foster mom changed my food too and I really REALLY like my new food. It's a chicken and rice food that is supposed to be good for allergies.

I am in love with Shane and Rosie. They like to play with me and Shane and I were even wrestling the other day and it was fun!!! I've heard stories about him trying to eat other foster dogs, so I was pretty cute in my approach to him. Now he likes me and we have fun! Lizzie is ok. She growls at me sometimes, but she said something about not liking me whacking her in the face with my tail. Oh well. When a girl's gotta wag...a girl's gotta wag!!! BARK !! (oops. sorry.)

The cats are ok. Lucy (yes, we have a Lucy cat, too!) likes to play with my tail. I don't mind.

I hope you decide to adopt me. I am a happy happy girl. I listen nicely. I walk on leash nicely. I don't beg, I don't have any bad habits. I try to catch tennis balls in my paws and not in my mouth. I'm still perfecting that. Anyhow, my foster mom has pictures of me and Lizzie and she promised to get them on our websites soon!

I have to go play now. Have a good day! Love, Lucy
