Lucy 10-336

Profile

My latest foster Lucy 10-336 arrived on Saturday around noon. She met my two goldens with no issues. She was a bit overwhelmed by one of my guy's initial exuberance, but once he calmed down, she decided he was okay too. Lucy is a four-year-old female, petite at only 48 pounds. She's medium blond, but compared to my dark red boys, she looks lighter. She is an owner surrender. She is crate trained, housebroken and very, very sweet. Apparently she was an outdoor dog before, but she's obviously been in a house before. She has settled right in.

She met the cat later on Saturday. At first she growled and lunged at the cat. My cat quickly told Lucy the rules and Lucy now ignores the cat completely. I didn't quite understand that conversation, but it included some barks and growls from Lucy, followed by some hissing and spitting from the cat, a squeak from Lucy...and somewhere in there, an agreement was made. So, I'd say she's okay with cats.

Lucy didn't quite know what to do once we all went to bed, so around midnight, I put her in the kennel....she quieted right down and we all slept until morning.

This morning we went to the vet. She is now up-to-date on her shots and has a microchip. She had supplied a fecal sample before we left home and they drew blood to check for tick borne diseases. We'll get the results of those tests on Tuesday. She rode nicely in the back of my SUV and never made a peep, even when I stopped to get gas and went through McDonald's drivethrough. She did well at the vet and seems to like everyone she meets. She wasn't a big fan of the bordatella vaccine into her nose, but she tolerated the pokes without even flinching. The vet thought she could lose a couple of pounds to be at her ideal weight, but other than that she seems to be in great shape.

I took Lucy and one of my guys for a two-mile walk later in the day and she walks nicely. I don't believe she had ever worn a gentle leader before, but she adjusted quickly and did quite well.

I'll update again once I hear from the vet.

We adopted Lucy last November. I just wanted to get back to you and let you know that Lucy has completely adjusted and seems very happy. We still love her to pieces and she gets A LOT of attention and affection from all of us. As you may remember, she tends to follow us around and likes company, so I think it was a good choice coming into our home because she's almost never alone.

She truly is a GREAT dog with no problems, and we enjoy her immensely. She gets out 3 times a day. We usually watch a movie or some TV show at night, and Lucy always curls up with us on the couch. She has toys and we play every day. She has several toys. Her favorite is a rope with several knots in it that she brings to us when she wants to play.

She loves to meet other dogs on her walks, and is very friendly. My wife, who used to be a "cat" person, has really fallen for Lucy. My daughter Erin is smitten also. Lucy just brings so much love, warmth and humor to our lives. I certainly continue to be amazed at these Golden Retrievers, they're such a wonderful breed. Thanks again for all you did to help bring Lucy into our lives.

Lucy in one of her favorite spots. As soon as I say let's go to bed, she runs into the bedroom and curls up in her bed. She stays there until morning.

Lucy has been here for over a week and I can't find a single thing to say about her that's negative. She is a very nice girl.

We have an older golden visiting this weekend. She barked at him when he first arrived, but quickly accepted him. They all enjoyed the snow on Saturday. "Enjoyed" is an understatement, they all acted like nuts and ran and rolled and ate it. My yard was full of footprints by 8 a.m. Saturday. Lucy likes to roll in it as much as any of them. Saturday morning is grooming time and she enjoyed being brushed, she's had her nails trimmed and I even was able to trim up her tail a bit, so it's more even.

We went to Petco today and she made several friends. She was a little scared at first, but she quickly got used to the idea of strangers petting her. She even took a treat from the cashier.

We'd walked a lot last week and each day her walking improved. She pretty much ignored the gentle leader and walks like a champ. We didn't do any walking this weekend as it seemed too wet for the dogs, but now that everyone's shoveled, we can go back to that routine.

She continues to like the toys we have and she has graduated to catching popcorn...still not quite the pro my guys are, but give her time, I bet she'll be just as good as either of them. That's all from Lucy's end of town, we'll post again later in the week.
