Lucy III 08-540

Profile

Lucy is a PB Golden Retriever who will turn 5 on December 1st. I am sure she would love to be in a forever family for her birthday! She came to RAGOM from a family who loved her very much but could not afford to take care of her any longer.

I am temp fostering Lucy before she heads to her permanent foster in IA this weekend. Lucy is a SWEET girl who has a fantastic personality. She managed my 3 resident dogs being growly with her initially and is now trying to convince them to play with her. She was playing with toys within a few hours of being at my house and seems to adjust well. Lucy loves to go for car rides, responds well to her name, is fully house trained, and has done wonderfully with the dogs she has met.

I brought her to the vet today to get her microchipped. She also had her nails trimmed and her ears flushed. The vet said it appears she has had ear infections often so we've got some ointment and ear cleaner to help clear them up. Lucy was a good patient while the vet checked her out and even while getting her nails trimmed. Otherwise, she seems to be in great health.

Lucy is quite a bit overweight. She weighed in at 87.8 lbs and the vet said her ideal weight is probably between 60-65 lbs. Her hips seem to be fine and she has energy so we should be able to get her weight under control before it causes any problems. So, no more free feeding for Lucy Lu.......it's time for a diet and lots of exercise. Luckily, Lucy loves going for walks and does well. She does pull a bit but I think she is just so darn excited to be out and about! Lucy also jumps up on people but we are working on this and she is a smart girl who wants to please. In fact, when she met my mom today she actually sat to be pet instead of jumping!

I am still working on getting a good picture and will send one in as soon as I get one!

Let placement know if you would like to meet sweet Lucy!

Updates

Hi!  Lucy here. Jjust wanted to do my own update. Life in fosterland has been going really well. FM and FD brought home another foster yesterday, Gunner 08-566 and we are having a BLAST! We love to play with each other. FM says if I were to stay here for another couple of weeks I would probably lose another ten pounds because we rarely stop to rest. But boy oh boy is playing with another dog a good time, almost as fun as getting loving from people.

I do have some exciting news for everyone that I wanted to share. I got to meet a family on Friday and they decided that I was just the girl for them. I am going to have a new mom and dad to love me forever. I will be officially adopted and going to my new home on Friday and though I will miss my FM, FD and siblings, I am so excited to have my very own furever family!!

Just wanted to share some photos of just me and some of me and my new foster brother. Enjoy!

Just wanted to update everyone on how Lucy is doing. She has been continuing to do wonderful in our home. Lucy has the sweetest personality. She just loves getting pets and playing with her toys. She does great with free roam, but is also kennel trained. We have found out that she does respond to the command kennel, which we found out by saying it when we are trying to get resident dog Mia to go inside. She sleeps through the night right beside the bed, has only had one accident in the house since she came to us and can hold it for 8-9 hours a day if she has to.

We went to the vet on Wednesday and are going to continue to treat her ears. Ear infections just come with the territory when you own Goldens. We also think Lucy has a leaky anal gland. Periodically we will smell anal gland from her and the vet says sometimes they can leak. We just remedy the situation with some doggy perfume which makes it all better. As far as the diet goes Lucy is down to 84.8 pounds, which means she has lost another 1 1/2 pounds since she came to Ames. Yah for Lucy! She makes weight loss look so easy.

Lucy is still has a lot of work to do when it comes to jumping. Her biggest vice is when guests come. She just gets sooo excited. She will stay down as long as the guests are paying attention to her, but when they stop petting her she has to jump up on them to let them know that she wants them to keep petting. Her forever family will have to continue to work on her with this though I'd say that if jumping up on people is her biggest vice then she is a pretty awesome dog, which she is!

I sent along a cute picture of Lucy who thought she wanted to sleep in the closet the other night. Usually we have the laundry basket sitting in there but since we were doing laundry just the blanket was there. Lucy walked right in and layed right down in the closet. It was pretty adorable! In the second picture Mia thought that if Lucy was getting her picture taken she better be in it as well so came and sat right beside her.

Lucy just wanted to say hi to everyone and let everybody know that she is doing great in her foster home. She still loves to play fetch and just demands that we play when she wants to. I have been trying to teach her to release the toy when she retrieves it. I wait till she drops the ball into my lap before I throw it again and she is getting better about this.

She has been going on lots of walks and seems to really enjoy them. We are trying to go 2-3 miles a day and Lucy has no problem keeping up. Lucy has not had an accident while here and has been doing great with free roam while we are gone. She is always lying by the door when I get home from class.

We will be going back to the vet next week to get her ears checked and see how we are doing on her diet. Lucy is a really good girl and is easy to have around. We found out that she knows wait which we make both the dogs do before they get their dinner. She is a very smart girl with the sweetest face! Thanks for reading about Miss Lucy Lu.

Please throw the toy again mom,
just one more time!!!

Lucy made it down to Iowa Sunday afternoon and says thanks to everyone who helped transport her down here!

We have only had her for a few hours but she is settling in nicely. She rode well for the last leg of the journey and just watched out the window and slept. She met the resident dog with no problems and started playing with toys immediately. Lucy LOVES toys, Kongs, squeaky toys, ropes, tennis balls, you name it she loves playing with it. Lucy has a lot of energy and will keep retrieving for a really long time. She won’t release the ball/toy yet but we will be working on it. I think she knows all of the basic commands, sit, stay, come, and down and hasn’t had an accident in the house. Good girl!

Lucy’s forever family will definitely have to be committed to exercising her at least a couple of times a day to help get her weight down. She loves to walk and play and with her level of energy she should be able to take the weight right off. We went for a walk this evening and she did really well for her first time on the Gentle Leader.

Lucy has also done really well meeting our cats. She likes to give them kisses and sniff them but doesn’t bother them at all.

Lucy is a very good girl and would love to meet an active family who is going to whip her fur butt into shape! I sent along some pictures of our good looking little lady!
