Lucy (Venus 02-276)

Profile

Venus is a 4 month old female puppy. She's a happy puppy who loves to romp and play. We are working on potty training and learning a few commands. She's a little underweight at 18.9 lbs, but she's eating like a trooper! For a puppymill dog, she's in great shape and well socialized. Venus is being treated for mange (non-contagious) around her face and head. This condition is from improper care while in the puppy mill. This is very simple to treat with just a bath with medicated shampoo and a "dip" in her medication every two weeks. It's starting to clear up already and it doesn't seem to bother her. Pretty soon she'll look like new! She also has a small hernia (belly button area) and this can be easily repaired when she is spayed, however, she can't have anymore vaccinations or be spayed until the mange is cleared up.

She is a little spit fire who keeps us laughing all the time. She does come when called and is going to need a gentle leader while walking on lead as she has a tendency to pull a little because she's so rambunctious and always wanting to play.

She's a joy to have around and if you are looking for a puppy, she'd be a great choice!! We are starting to consider families for this little sweetie so if you are interested, please let us know. Venus's new forever family will need to understand the importance of following through with her "dips" until her mange is cleared up and she will need to be spayed once it is cleared up.

Dear Ragom,

We are sorry to share that Lucy, formerly Venus (02-276), crossed the Rainbow Bridge last week. She was 9 and 1/2 years old. She had been seeing the vet for what we thought was a GI issue (she wasn't eating normally). In the end, we believe that she had a tumor in her head. She was hardly eating and had become very lethargic.

We adopted her in October of 2002 when she was just over 4 months old. She was a puppy-mill golden, and she was rescued as part of RAGOM's "Labor of Love Brigade". She was an amazing dog. She quickly grew out of her puppy-mill shyness. She loved swimming and retrieving tennis balls. She graciously welcomed two human brothers to our family. She never showed any aggression, and she played very well with her human brothers! She will be forever missed!

Thank you for allowing us to adopt Lucy!

From Venus' new family...

Dear Ragom,

We just wanted to send an update on Lucy (previously Venus 02-276). We really feel that we have the best dog in the world, and we are soooooo happy with her. She was very timid at first, and it took her about a month before she would ever wag her tail at us. However, she has come around, and she has always LOVED other dogs! She can still be very shy around some people, but she has been very good around children (closely supervised of course).

Her favorite activities include swimming, retrieving sticks, playing tug-of-war with her rope, going on walks and runs, tummy scratches, etc, etc. We do keep her kennel-trained at night. She often puts herself to bed when she hears us brushing our teeth at night. And if we are both gone during the day, she stays in the kitchen with a gate.

She has only destroyed one small item in her 9 months with us! She passed obedience school with flying colors, and we really feel that she was the class favorite :-)!

She is definitely a social dog, and she follows us from room to room in the house. If we are outside, she is out with us, and if we are inside, she is in with us too. She is also a great traveler, and we are lucky in the fact that we can take her nearly every place we visit. (Our families love to doggie-sit too.)

She did have mange when we got her, and it did take about a month and a-half to get rid of it. She is a rather petite thing with very blond, shiny hair. We were very surprised last week when she weighed in at 66 pounds! (She wears it well!) She also had a little hernia that got repaired with her spay.

I attached some pictures to show Ragom what a good-looking girl we've got!! We are so grateful that we had the opportunity to adopt her, and we have forgotten what life was like before Lucy!

Thanks Ragom!
