Hi, my name is Mabel and I'm a 3.5 year old golden retriever mix.  I'm a very lovable girl, enjoying being petted and meeting new people.  So far, I haven't found anyone that I didn't like.

I arrived last week from Jamestown, ND, and my foster parents are giving me lots of loving and taking me on walks so I can see the neighborhood and check out where all the squirrels live.  You see, that's one of my favorite things to do and I'm good at spotting them, even when they're up in the trees.  I'm tall and lean, weighing in at about 57 pounds.  I need a yard with a high fence because I like to follow the squirrels into the next yards.  I was raised as an outdoor dog, so I prefer to be outdoors.

I love getting treats when I'm learning my basic commands.  I'm such a fast  learner, too. I only had a couple of accidents on the carpet the first day, but I let my foster parents know when I need to go out now. I also love chasing a tennis ball and am getting good at bringing it back.  I'm looking for a forever home where the family is energetic like me and has time to spend with me.  I would prefer older kids as I was too active for the little kids where I used to live and would knock them over in my excitement.

These are the things I'm looking for in my new home:

A big yard with a high fence
Someone to take me on walks
Maybe another dog that would play with me
Someone to love me as I enjoy people so much

Thanks, Mabel

My foster parents told me that I need to update about myself, but I'm not good at typing. FM is helping me today so I can find a forever home with people who will love me as much as my foster family does. I have learned more new tricks and am getting good at playing some sort of game with FM's grandson.  He hides my treats under cups and I have to figure out which cup to choose.  I've learned to sit and stay until they tell me to come.

For Halloween, they put a costume on me so I could walk around the neighborhood to see all kinds of strange creatures dressed up. I didn't get any treats, but lots of loving from the neighbors.  They all think I'm so sweet and so beautiful.  They keep hoping I will get to go  home to my new family soon.

I now play with stuffed animals along with tennis balls.  Whenever I want to play, I bring one to somebody and they will throw it for me to bring back.  I love to meet new people and show off my tricks for them.  I especially love being around my FM's grandson who is 10.  Even little kids like to love me up.

Going for walks is still one of my favorite time of the day.  I have to look really hard now for those squirrels since the weather has gotten colder.  I also enjoy just sitting out on the front porch watching people and other dogs go by.  I sure hope you'll want to take me home because I'm so sweet and really want a family to love me.

Thanks, Mabel

Hi, I'm back again to let you know how it's been this past week.  I've decided that I really don't need a fenced in yard as long as I get to go on walks.  My foster family has been taking me out in the yard on a long leash while they take care of the garden, yardwork, and other projects.  I keep an ever-watchful eye out for my favorite animals, those pesky squirrels.  I'm doing much better on walks and listen when they tell me "no" when I see one of them.

I just love going on my morning walks, and will give my foster mom kisses until she gets up and going on our walks.  She tells me I'm so good at helping her get her exercise.  I know it helps me keep my trim, "girlie" figure.  I also discovered that taking a bath did not make my top ten list of favorite things.  My FM's grandson, who's 10, helped talk me through it and even got in the shower after to help dry me off.

Everyone who meets me keeps telling me I'm so beautiful and so well-behaved.  I did meet some neighbor's dogs the other day and was so excited to meet them that my whole body was wagging, not just my tail.  Alas, the boy dog wasn't as happy as I was and we exchanged a few growls and showed our teeth.  My foster mom said the dog was probably just hot, tired and thirsty from his long walk and just wanted to get home.  He also probably wanted to show his sister how tough he could be.

As you can see from my new photos, I just love looking out the windows to watch for any squirrels, people, and other dogs.  So far, I haven't used my barking voice much, mainly when my foster mom came to take me home.  I am doing better with following directions as I just love those treats they give me.  I'm living up to my name and retrieving those tennis balls they throw me.
