Hannah came to RAGOM from China through RAGOM's international rescue program. Hannah is reactive towards other dogs, but she gets along well with cats. Since she was accustomed to running free in China, a fence is required to ensure her safety. Because of her response to other dogs, children in Hannah's forever home should be age 10+ and able to manage this behavior. Hannah is a super sweet girl who would love to have a family to call her own.

So very happy to say that little miss Hannah (now Mabel) has been adopted by a wonderful couple who already love her to pieces.

She has a forever home that is devoted to training her to be the best she can be and learn confidence and lose her fear of other dogs. She will be a cherished member of a family with another fur brother (cat) to help her spend the rest of her days loved and cherished.

I am over-the-moon happy for this girl and very thankful for a family ready to take on her dog reactivity. She is a very lucky girl and they are so lucky to have her.

I have significantly updated Hannah’s requirements, so let me explain:

Hannah has been dog reactive on our walks, so today I took her to meet another dog to see how she would do. The other dog was so impressive with his reaction to her. He was so good until he had to tell her off, which was his duty as she would not stop.

She did not do well with this interaction at all (she was lunging and barking). She was very scared and reactionary. She did not hurt the other dog but clearly needs some training on meeting other dogs and help building her confidence. Her time on the streets created this and time with love and training can heal it.

This makes me sad for her as Hannah is so wonderful in so many ways. But this behavior changed everything for finding her forever home.

We do not know what she dealt with out there on the streets of China. So some work needs to be done and training is in progress. I believe with training we can get her past this poor reaction and her fear and build her confidence. Could she become that confident dog that engages in doggie play? I do not know that now, but I wish that for her.

Because of this I believe any children in Hannah’s home should be older (age 10+). If she were to go into fight or flight mode, she needs to have a family around her that has worked on her training and can manage the situation.

And hopefully for Hannah she will learn to live with confidence and be able to walk by or see a dog along her walk or living next door without fear and reactivity. Of course, there is a lot of unknowns with this right now. We will work on this together and keep you posted on her ability to adapt to other dogs.

She is also learning to give you her balls and will go get them and bring them back. She was very possessive of the balls at first, but keep in mind she maybe never had any toys.

She is a WONDERFUL work in progress. She needs to have a family devoted to her training and to love her through this process. I just know that with training we can give Hannah the great life she deserves.

Hannah-Banana, as I call her, is on her second week in Minnesota. It is amazing how things change so quickly with these foster dogs.

Here are some fun facts on this little girl:

  • Love my balls
  • Love my crate
  • Love a schedule so I know what to expect
  • Love my new food (Raw Chicken diet)
  • Love to chase balls
  • Love my daily walks (big change with behavior on these walks)
  • Love my foster mommy
  • Love my neighbor who comes to let me out every day at lunch
  • Love to snuggle with you
  • Love the BED! (She just found out that she can stay on it all night to sleep next to me! I kinda love it, too.)

Hannah goes outside to do her business and wants to come right back in. She wants to be with her people all the time and melts into the environment around her. If I am up and about, she is. If I am excited, she is. If I am quiet and reading she will lay down. Her transition from very scared insecure girl is truly amazing in such a short time.

She has some behaviors that are coming from anxiety but are not bad; they just need some work. For example, she loves to always have something in her mouth, so on walks trying to get going down the driveway is a challenge as she grabs and jumps for the leash and does not want to let go! She can be redirected usually with a treat.

With time I think she will understand better how to behave on a leash. Once we get walking she has it all down and loves her walks.

If she thinks you have something she wants she will jump on you, but again is easily redirected and really a good listener. I wonder if she knows what I am saying! She will sit if you hand signal her to do so.

Giving up the ball is a challenge as she does not want you to have it. I do worry about another dog and the balls, so that would or could be a challenge for a family with another dog.

She is CRAZY about the squirrels and rabbits and barks at them through the window.

Otherwise, Hannah is not much of a barker. She barks a little when afraid and at the squirrels, but not at my neighbors outside when in the yard.

Hannah does have allergies and is being treated for that. When she came in she was itchy, biting, licking, and rubbing on everything. That appears to be much better.

She is learning what bones and toys are, which is fun to watch. This poor girl probably did not ever have any.

This girl will really make some family a wonderful dog!

Hannah is such a precious little soul. I cannot imagine the life she has lead for the last four years. This little angel came all the way from China; you read that right, from CHINA. The picture above is the day of her arrival, with her ball on a bed -- items I'll bet she has never had.

I think to ensure her safety right now, it is important that she has a fence. This may change in the future, as she is fairly attached to her people. I would worry she may take off, based on her lifestyle in China where the dogs run free.

It has only been a week, but she LOVES her people and doesn't want you to be out of sight. I am sure in time she will feel more secure, but for now she must know where you are at all times.

Hannah has the most beautiful temperament. She is kind and gentle and you can see it on her face. She will be a work in progress for walking and obedience, but I know she will be a very quick study.

We went on a walk last night and it is clear she needs some work with that. Tonight we will go with a Gentle Leader and I'm sure that in no time, we will have a very happy girl walking down the street.

We are working on deworming and a much better diet for this little sweetie. Stay tuned for more updates!
