Welcome to Maddie!

She came to my house on Saturday afternoon, and by the evening news, it seemed like she'd been there forever. Maddie is very sweet and cuddly; she likes to be by people all the time, though she does enjoy the company of the rather feisty resident RAGOM dog (5yr old Sam).

So far:

  • She has had no accidents in the house, even when I decided to sleep very late on President's day, though she did wake me up with some face licks at about nine thirty.
  • Gets along fine with resident dog. We also ran into several dogs on the trails this weekend and had no issues. She was most interested in meeting the people.
  • Met a cat at the vet today and didn't seem particularly interested.
  • Has not been interested in chasing the many squirrels and rabbits that live in our neighborhood.
  • No resource guarding. She and resident dog even eat in the same room now.
  • Shares toys well.
  • Likes to fetch and makes a game out of retuning items.
  • Didn't seem to know how to walk on a leash at first but is catching on quickly.
  • Has barked one time in 48 hours and that was when she was on one side of the glass kitchen door while I got a leash on the resident dog. It was a "wait don't forget me!" bark, not aggressive.
  • She will investigate things on the counter, though she is pretty short so she can only reach things at the edge and is easily redirected.
  • She found one of the resident dogs rejected dog beds (he prefers the couch) and made it her own. I just move it into my bedroom when it's time for lights out and she follows me in and plops down.
  • Has not picked up shoes or other non-dog items. Though there are probably more dog toys on the floor of my house than not.
  • Rides well in the car.

At the vet today:

Vet reports that Maddie is in very good health. Clean ears, good weight (60.1lbs), overall healthy looking. Tomorrow we should find out the results of her fecal tests and other blood work. She had all of her vaccinations updated and handled the needles like a champ.

If you are looking for a VERY sweet, easy-going buddy who is game for long walks or just watching a little TV and playing fetch, than this might just be the gal for you.

I'm happy to report that Maddie has gone to her forever home with Anne and Bruce. Maddie will be very missed here, especially by her FB Sam. Check out the picture of them playing tug-o-war.
