Maddie Mae 11-386

Profile

Once again we have gotten very lucky and have just received a wonderful golden girl in our care for fostering.  First, I want to mention some big “thank you” notes here. Miss Maddie Mae, 11-386, arrived to us here, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, by a great volunteer couple who transported her over 5 hours to get her to us from Western Wisconsin.  Thank you to the “G” family for your generous help for all of us.  She arrived on Saturday November 12th.  She rode just great the entire way with no problems at all.  Another huge “”thank you from us (& Ragom) for getting this lovely girl into our rescue (yeah Ragom!) and took the care and time to vet her and take her into your home until a foster was found. “S.W.” a great big thank you to you also.  You really saved this magnificent golden from the beginning.  Thank you so very, very much!  Rona~

Here is a first, new update on this lovely girl.  MM will be going next week for a groom and vet appointment and get microchipped and records review and meet her South Dakota doctor/vet.  Therefore, in this short time we just barely know her but I can for sure say, she is a great, gentle, lovely golden girl! J  (she gives kisses too!)  Ok, here is what we do know about Maddie Mae:

  • Maddie Mae DOB is August, 2004 so she is 7+ years old;
  • She is a medium golden colored gal with some white on her chest between forelegs and a couple small ones on tip of nose and forehead;
  • She currently has had rabies, bordatella, and distemper (thanks to SW); a 4DX was done and a trace positive for lymes so currently she is on doxycycline for comfort (she acts just fine); she is also on meds for ears as they were in very poor condition and again, they are clearing up just fine and MM does fine with giving medications.  She is HW negative.
  • She is also on clemastine daily for allergies and Holistic Select K-9 Duck+ food as well.   Consensus is we feel these are seasonal but we have not had her long enough to really do any type of assessment.
  • Maddie Mae does not do crating at all.  She has in our care, done fine with the babygate.  She will, I will venture to guess, will be totally ok with ‘free’ roam.
  • MM really enjoys being outside.  When she first arrived she really pulled on her lead and basically ignoring us sniffing.  Today that has greatly improved.  In taking her for her first long walk I used a harness and she did remarkably well.  She will stop and sniff some and with slight correction, moves along fine.  After 2-2.5 miles she is just fine.  Considering MM does not have the ‘best waist line’ and needs to loose some weight, she was great on the walk.  She weighs about 88#.
  • MM is housetrained – she will go to the door when she wants outside.  We have a fenced in yard and she really enjoys that.  At this very new status in our fostercare, her recall is slowly getting better.  I think perhaps she chose to ‘ignore’ more and sniff to get a better handle on her new home (yet again…) and check out all the new smells.
  • MM is totally fine with resident cats (3); and she does fine with our resident dog:  “Maggie Mae!”  Yes, this is quite interesting with the ‘NAME GAME!’  Actually it is not going as bad as I thought it might.  In meeting other dogs on our first long walk, she seems just fine.  Prior owner of MM also stated she is good with kids, which I can only imagine she is.  (we have grandchildren which she will meet soon too!)

This is one super great golden girl and we are totally enjoying fostering her.  She is now trusting, listening and becoming more and more happy and content here.  Again, we will know more about her once we get a repeat vet visit next week and will update after that.  She needs a good bath/groom also, and has some slight flaking of coat from the allergies, but not bad at all.  Her color is beautiful and of course, so is her disposition.  Of course as others know me, she is really fun to photograph too!  As I write this, she is snoozing away at my feet…. Ahhhh…J

It has been a somewhat icy/snowy day today here in South Dakota and parts of MN and also a heartwarming day for 2 guys and a dog.

This fantastic family drove here to South Dakota and Maddie Mae is now on her way 'home.'  This is a family who are golden people, not only in their quest and subsequent adoption of our Maddie, but their hearts and home.  Despite a not-so-lovely day outside this is a truly lovely, happy day for all of us.  For me, Ragom, Eric and Terry and our lovely Miss Maddie Mae.  We did not have this beauty for very long; however, there are some matches which are just meant to be and this was sure one of them.  This family came prepared, asked great questions and did their research; not to mention willing to drive 5+ hours due to the weather conditions today from MN to SD.  We meet just the best families in these adoptions and of course, get to foster some of the loveliest dog rescues ever.  Maddie will be bonding very quickly and will have the golden life she deserves. Hugs to you Maddie Mae and a huge thank you to Terry and Eric. :)
