Tulip 09-415 joined her new foster home on October 24th after a long 6 hour car ride from Iowa to our home. Tulip came from a backyard breeder who had an accidental litter and wasn't able to find homes for all of the puppies. The surrendering owner ended up having some financial issues and couldn't care for the dogs any longer. Tulip came to her new foster home with anxiety and a bad case of worms. She went to the vet October 28th and weighs 45 lbs (underweight by 10 to 15 lbs), probably due in part to the worms she had. She's 11 months old and will be having her 1st birthday on November 27, 2009.

Since arriving at our home, Tulip has come along way. She walks on a leash, goes up and down stairs, is catching on to going outside to go potty (she wasn't potty trained), comes up to us for affection, and is getting to know her name. Tulip likes to watch my resident Golden Bela, who's 3, play and run around, but Tulip doesn't know how to play yet. She has chewed on a bone a few times. We have introduced her to dog toys and tennis balls but she still has no interest. Tulip doesn't go potty in her crate and sleeps in there at night.

Tulip is also good with my 3 lb Yorkie, was good in the car on the way to the vet, likes walks and the outdoors. She will need a fenced yard and another resident dog in her new home. Next week we are going to recheck to make sure the worms are gone and schedule her spay. She's very sweet and likes men, women and older kids so far. No aggression with food. She will make a great pet in time with more love, training and patience. Check out her picture, she is very photogenic! :)

Mae has been such a great addition to our family. In the five months she has been part of our family she has become the best companion for both us and our other golden Ellie.

We found she had some food allergies and a shoulder issue. But now that we have that all figured out she is making up for lost time. Instead of shying away from people like she did when we brought her home, she now meets the neighbors at the fence and looks for a pat on the head. Her favorite hobbies are playing with our cat, chasing squirrels, boat rides, and to be in the lake. Oh ya...and to wake dad up at 5:30 am with the poke of a cold nose almost every day he is off!!

She's a great girl....we wouldn't trade her for the world......well, maybe at 5:30am!

Tulip (now known as Mae) is doing just great! She was quite shy when we brought her home but caught on quickly to her new name and routine. In the last ten days we are very happy to report she has REALLY come out of her shell. She loves chasing her new sister Ellie around the yard and has really warmed up to her new Dad. She looks forward to her morning ride with Ellie and Dad to the coffee shop. However Mom is still her favorite person.

On a Thanksgiving trip she met our grown kids, grandchildren and her cousin, a 2 1/2 year old golden, and it went very well. After about 30 minutes of sitting back and watching, she decided to join Ellie and be part of the party.

We were a little concerned about a golden from a "puppy breeder" due to the lack of human contact and other issues. But we couldn't be more pleased with our little lady. We owe a very big THANK YOU to RAGOM and the foster homes for the work they do for these dogs. A very heart felt thank you to Tiffani and Kevin. We thought Ellie was the best dog in the world, now we think we have the two best dogs in the world. You did a great job!

From Mae's (formerly known as Tulip) forever family...

Hey Tiff (FM),

We got home at seven and I thought I better check in. Here's the report... For about 5 miles she tried to get in the front seat (with no luck). After that they each picked a corner of the back seat and slept there. By the time we got home Mae was using Ellie for a pillow. She traveled GREAT.

When we got home I don't think you'll believe it without seeing it. She has been running around the yard chasing Ellie, came in, checked out the cat (and couldn't care less about her), then back out with Ellie.

She found her kennel and runs to it when she feels a little overwhelmed. As I write this she is on the couch with Peg in front of a fire. So far we have had a couple of treats and a piece of cheese and as you ordered....lots of kisses. She has even come to me for a little pet now and then.

I'm going to make us popcorn now.....the little girl has it made! I'll keep you posted and send more pictures as she gets settled in.

Today Tulip was dropped off at the vet to get spayed. She has gained 1 lb so far. Now that the worms are gone, hopefully she will start gaining weight. She also has a bacterial infection that we are treating now, so in a week this should be one happy puppy!

Since the last update we have learned that Tulip's fine being petted when we are outside. When we are inside she only likes to be petted when she's between the couch and coffee table, in her kennel or in a safe corner. Tulip loves to follow FM around but when I go and pet her she ducks or runs away (only when I'm in an open area like the kitchen). I'm working on bringing her into new rooms of the house and finding her a safe spot so I can relax her. She has no aggressive behaviors, is great with my little dog, she's very gentle when we're giving her treats, loves kisses on her nose and likes her ears rubbed.

Once her stitches are out Tulip will be ready for her forever home. She will need a home that has older kids or no kids, a resident dog, and a family or individual who has lots of patience and a fenced yard. If you're interested in Tulip, please contact placement.
