6-2-06: Maggie is a fun-loving Golden/Beagle mix who is seeking a new home without small children. Maggie will be 5 years young at the end of June, and has lived with the same family since she was 8 weeks old. She has been very well loved and cared for, and they are very sad to say good-bye to her, but all feel it's best for Maggie.

Maggie is on the petite side, at 47 pounds. She is spayed and UTD on vaccinations as of last week. She is a runner (it's the hound in her) so a tether is required whenever she is outside, but a fenced yard would be ideal for her because she's not too fond of playing when on the tether. She loves to walk, and does so nicely with a Gentle Leader (even a 6 year old can walk her with a GL!). She is a bit bossy at first, but warms up & plays with almost all dogs we've met. She has lived with cats and guinea pigs, and has only mild curiosity and playfulness for them. She will do well as an only dog or as part of a pack. Her family has always had a stay at home mom, but Maggie was occasionally left for up to 9 hours with free roam of the house. She doesn't chew on any inappropriate items, and LOVES raw bones.

She really is a beauty, with her black eyeliner-look, pictures never do her justice. If you have a fenced yard and older or no children and would like to go for walks & throw a Frisbee for Maggie, please email placementatragom [dot] org today!

I apologize for not having sent a more recent update on Miss Maggie Mae but we have all been very busy. Things have been pretty much the same around here and not only has Maggie been a good girl but she has been instrumental in raising the puppy. Pepper is now almost a year old and about 75 pounds but Maggie is in charge and I am very grateful for her leadership. He learns so much from her when they play and run around in the yard or when we go for walks she sets a good example. It seems as though Maggie becomes a faster runner as Pepper grows and gets faster. I think that she has had the speed all along but only uses what is necessary to be the fastest! It is great to see her run and extend her front and rear legs all the way at the same time.

We have a senior cat named Bonnie and Maggie has always shown her so much respect that Bonnie now seeks out Maggie to cuddle with. She is definitely a unique dog and she is very intelligent. I know that I have mentioned how she likes to watch for animals on television, I think she sometimes follows the plot of some shows but has been known to fall asleep in front of the TV. I think that Maggie has very good eye sight for a dog based upon how perceptive she is of what goes on around her. She is definitely one of the smartest, cutest and most physically fit dogs I know of. Don’t let the two new couch pictures fool you; I think Maggie could be a great jogging partner for somebody.

What has Maggie been up to for the last several weeks? She has been playing pretty hard, making friends and earning lots of treats! She is very intelligent and seems to understand what is being said to her. We have a neighbor that gives Maggie treats and she is so excited and vocal when she sees her new friend! In comparison to the 12 or more dogs that have stayed in this house over the last year Maggie is by far the most aware, perceptive and thinking dog of the bunch. It still amazes me how she can spot animals on the television and will sit there and watch for long periods! Maggie is fun to watch play in the yard, she is fast, graceful and plays well with the other dogs.

I think for the right family Maggie could be a great addition to the family – she is part golden retriever with some good beagle traits. I apologize for not being a better photographer but here are a few recent pictures.

Maggie has really settled in and become a great part of the home she is living in. She loves people very much and she really likes to play with Pepper the 8 month old golden she lives with. Here are some cute pictures of Maggie as a very young puppy and one of her when she was a little older :-)
