Today marks the first day of the rest of Maggie's life and what a great day it is! It is with great excitement I announce that Princess Maggie has found a new kingdom to rule over. She found a great forever home with a new brother named Gill and a very special Mommy that has dedicated a part of her life to helping older Goldens who need a place to live out their "Golden Years." Congrats to Maggie and her entire new forever family!

Oh my, where do I even begin? What an exciting week we’ve had! I guess I’ll start with the good news. All of Maggie’s blood work came back great. The Dr. reported that for a 13 year old gal Maggie has excellent function in all of her important organs and all of the other tests came back negative as well, no heartworm, lymes, worms or anything like that. Yeah Maggie! The one thing that the Dr. did find is that Maggie either has a bulged disk or some early signs of spinal degeneration. The treatment for both is the exact same, love her lots and enjoy all that she has to offer you! At some point in the future Maggie could require some pain management medications, but for now she is as playful as ever, tussling on the living room floor and chasing tennis balls around with the best of them. Maggie got a new little brother for Christmas (a pug puppy) and she tolerates him very well, but would just as soon he left tugging on her ears out of the picture. Both she and her other brother, Tiny (my Rottie) try to shake him off their ears like he is a bug, so we named him Bugsy. Maggie joined my family for Christmas and as usual made an excellent house guest. In addition to melting my mom’s heart, Maggie provided fun play for my nieces and nephews and enjoyed her time at Grandma’s house a great deal, and I’m sure it had nothing to do with the bones she got as Christmas presents. Maggie is so easy to have around. She doesn’t ask for a lot and will love you so much in return, who wouldn’t want to open their hearts and their home for this precious gal?

Maggie got a bath tonight. Although very scared at first, after she figured out it was just water, she began trying to drink the entire tub. Good thing I hadn’t put the shampoo on yet!!!
Maggie has really come out of her shell in the last week. She still prefers to spend most of her time in the comfortable carpeting of the living room, but is now much more playful, dropping tennis balls at my feet and giving the occasional high pitched bark to let me know she is tired of being ignored or needs to go outside. So far we have not had any accidents in the house at all, despite a couple long days of overtime last week and absolutely NO destructive behavior.
Maggie is just an all around great house guest. The highlight of Maggie’s day has become our afternoon walks when we go down to the end of our street. Maggie loves to lick the faces of the neighborhood kids and listen to them squeal in delight! It is really too cute. Maggie continues to get along well with my resident dog and even did very well with a weekend visit from one of my prior foster dogs. We have a vet appointment tomorrow night and then Maggie will be all ready to go out and find her new forever home. Won’t you give Maggie a chance to spend Christmas with your family?

Ladies and gentlemen! Your attention, please. I'd like to introduce Princess Maggie. She comes to us at the tender age of 13. I refer to her as a princess because unlike many of the dogs that come into RAGOM, Maggie has never lived a neglected day in her life. Until very recently Maggie had an elderly owner that loved her very much. Unfortunately Maggie's owner could no longer take care of her on her own, and in their last loving act, Maggie's family entrusted RAGOM to find her another forever family to love and cherish her in these "Golden Years" of her life.
Maggie is extremely well mannered and often almost timid at times. She is great around other dogs and it is my understanding that she does OK with cats as well. At her previous home she was trained to an invisible fence and has also been through an obedience training course. She walks well on a normal leash and seems to be fine around my neighborhood kids. She loves attention, and though she has only been with me for a couple days, she was playful this afternoon for the first time since I picked her up, fetching tennis balls and tussling on the living room floor. When Maggie gets really nervous, her teeth chatter like she's cold. It's very cute and a good indication of how she is feeling. Maggie's only restriction is going to be that she needs to go to a home with as few steps as possible. Although she walks normally very well, she sometimes struggles with steps. Maggie still has so much love to give. Won't you give her a chance to love you?
