Maggie (Margaret 08-480)

Profile

Let me introduce the one and only Margaret 08-480 (which we have shortened to Maggie)! She came into RAGOM’s care on Sunday. She came all the way from South Dakota and I want to thank all of the people who gave their time on Sunday to help bring her to us. Maggie rode wonderfully in the car from Clear Lake to Ames once I got her into the car. She is scared to get in but once she was in she just lay in the back and slept.

Maggie is adjusting to life as an indoor dog. She has done very well with potty training and has only had one accident since she came to us. She is starting to realize that we are outside to potty first and then play, and getting down to business much more quickly. She is a very sweet girl and can be very outgoing at times and very timid at others. She gets scared of new things but is learning to be brave and take everything as it comes. She will need a forever family that is willing to be patient with her and give her time to adjust

Maggie is a spayed female that is approximately a year old. She has a very beautiful medium red coat and is a very petite little girl. She is only 44lbs right now but probably needs to gain 5-10 lbs. We went to the vet for a physical on Tuesday. Maggie has a very slight heart murmur. The vet said it was very minor and should not cause her any problems. She also has a bacterial infection (a cold) which we are treating with antibiotics. She should be good as new in a week. Next week we will go back and get her boosters and get her microchipped. Maggie was very well behaved at the vet and didn’t even make a peep when they took her temperature (I know I wouldn’t have been so compliant).

Maggie is pretty laid back for the most part and loves to lounge around on the couch. Her tail is always wagging, so much so that sometimes she hits herself in the face with it. Then she gets this look on her face like “where did that come from.” It is really cute to watch! At this point we would prefer Maggie to be the only dog. She has done okay for the most part with our dog, but was very scared when she met a larger dog. Maggie does like to chew and is keeping us on our toes about leaving things lying around (when it’s on the floor it must be okay for chewing, right?) We are also starting to work on commands with Maggie, but she will definitely benefit from having her new owner take her to obedience training. More to come as we get to know this pretty little lady!

Hello to all my adoring fans. Just wanted to show you some pictures of me all dressed up for Halloween. I ended up being an Iowa Hawkeye for the evening but foster mom made me take some pictures with the goofy pumpkin costume on too. My foster sister Mia got stuck wearing that one all night (haha!). I look pretty cute in everything I put on though as I'm sure you'll agree. Black and orange go lovely with my coat color. Well I'm ready to go for a walk and enjoy the sunshine. Bye for now!

Miss Maggie wants to say hi to all her fans! She is still doing well in our home. She is almost completely over her infection and went to the vet to get a booster shot. She has gained 5 pounds in two weeks which we are very happy about. She was skinny when she came to us and is now about the perfect weight the vet said. We also had the vet check her heart again and she said that she couldn’t even detect the heart murmur this time so more good news. Miss Maggie is a healthy girl. Once again she was very good while at vet and didn’t even mind the pokes.

Maggie is still pretty well for the most part with potty training. She has had a few accidents since we began fostering her, but most of them have been our fault. Right now she still needs to be in her kennel while you are gone, otherwise, she will have an accident. She has not had one accident while in the kennel and sleeps all night in the bed with us without any noise or accidents.

Maggie spent last weekend at her foster grandparents house. She did very well except for one scuffle with the resident dog. Maggie is not the one that will start the scuffle but if a dog is aggressive towards her she will defend herself instead of backing off. Maggie is consistently sitting when you ask her to and will come the majority of the time when you call her. She is such a happy girl and a real love! I love having her around. She is a mellow girl until you get her outside and then she loves to run around.

We did have a major breakthrough this morning. Maggie normally will not come when you call her if she knows she is going to have to go into the kennel. This morning I was in a hurry and called both the dogs to kennel up. Maggie came when I called her and went right into the kennel. What a good girl!

Maggie has some more exciting news to report. She is going to meet a family this weekend from Minnesota. I know they will fall in love with her because she is such a sweet girl. Keep your fingers crossed for Miss Maggie that this will be furever family. We will let you know how everything goes.

Hi just wanted to update everyone on how Maggie is doing. She has been doing really well the past few days and is really starting to come out of her shell. She is getting less timid every day and more outgoing. She LOVES attention! She thinks that pets and belly rubs are just pure bliss. This weekend we had 7 people and an extra dog at our house for the ISU game and she did great. Everyone told me what a sweet dog she was and Maggie made sure to get plenty of attention from our guests. Maggie is really not pushy about getting attention though and when you are busy she is content to just lie down and take a snooze. We took her tailgating with us on Saturday and she was very well behaved. I think she was a little nervous with all the people and cars around, but as soon as people started coming up and giving her love she started enjoying herself. I had a number of people tell me what a beautiful, well behaved little lady she was.

Maggie has very good recall and will come when you call her. We are still working on sit and wait but this will need some continued work. She does jump up when she gets really excited but doesn't do this all the time and is easy to correct (she just gets really excited when you come home and can't help herself). Next week we will be going back to the vet to finish updating her shots and get her microchipped. She is going to be on antibiotics for another week because she is still sneezing and having a runny nose, but hopefully this round of antibiotics will completely take care of it. Potty training is going well. Maggie can probably go about 5 hours without an accident at this point and will do really well as long as she is kept on a consistent schedule. We are still working on Maggie's chewing. She loves to chew anything, toys, rawhides, socks, blankets so her forever family will just have to continue to work on this. She is not a countersurfer and doesn't beg during dinner time unlike the rest of my clan, cats and dogs alike. Maggie is just a very sweet girl that needs a little more training to become a wonderful canine citizen. I love having her around, she has a great personality and she will make some family very happy!
