Mardi 05-303

Profile

10/4/05: This sweet little girl was found in an apartment on Jackson Ave. in New Orleans. We would love to find her family, so she is not available for adoption at this time. We went to the vet yesterday and she checked out all okay except for hookworms. She weighs 17 pounds and is 4-5 months old. Mardi (we don't know her real name) looks like a Golden and Collie mix. She has some black hair on her face and tail.

Mardi is a social, happy little puppy considering what she has been through. Yesterday we toured Iowa City and visited the art gallery, book store and Pet Central. Today we went for a walk at the Hoover Library. She loves my other 3 Goldens. The two Golden girls are playing like pups again with Mardi. But the male is jealous and stays away from her. Mardi loves to be petted but she also is comfortable sleeping under my chair, like she is doing right now. She loves riding in the car. Mardi is a special little survivor.

Mardi has been in our home for one month now and she is a delight. She gets along well with my other dogs and loves to chase after a ball. I don't know how she does with cats. She has gained 2 pounds and it's no secret she likes to eat!

Her little ears flip over like an envelope, maybe some Collie mix? Mardi loves car rides and walking downtown (getting all that attention). She has an appointment on December 1st to get spayed and right after that she will be ready to find her forever home.

If Mardi's family cannot be found by December lst - she will be available for adoption at that time. Mardi continues to blossom. She will be a small dog - only 30-40 lbs. Mardi's tail curls up in a semi-circle and is so cute. She loves everything and everybody. But she is not a wimp - while my three Goldens hide on the sofa when I vacuum Mardi barked and protected them from the vacuum cleaner. She wasn't afraid.

In the evening she sleeps on her special bed by the wood stove. I find it amazing how adaptable she is. Mardi will make a wonderful addition to any family.

The photo is of Mardi on the sofa with Ruby, our 8 year old Golden and her brother, Chipper.

This little Southern city girl is loving our Iowa farmhouse. I'm sure Mardi wants to thank EVERYONE who rescued her- the policeman, the people in the shelter and her transporter. And I want to thank Mardi for bringing the survivor spirit into our home.

Mardi went trout fishing yesterday (while the other dogs rested). She loves the water but it was a little too cold for her tender feet. Mardi loves people and went right up to a small boy. She is the perfect puppy! Mardi sleeps all night in her crate and is completely housebroken. Whoever gives Mardi her forever home will be charmed by her.

Mardi continues to do well and loves to play and chase a ball. This photo was taken after a hard day of playing!
