9/17/06: Maree the puppymill girl arrived with much fear and trembling, although her reaction to fear is mostly to crouch down and lay very still, and she seems OK riding in the car with me petting her . Every sight and sound is new to her. She has probably had lots of puppies in her years, and has quite an infection in both ears. The vet thought it was probably a long term infection that has gone untreated. In spite of all her fear, she is an absolutely sweet girl and lets me put her ear medicine in as she lays very still. She is very watchful, and lays on her dog bed observing life and me with very sad eyes. She does like to stay close to me in the yard as I sit in a lawn chair, and she will get up and wander around the yard just a little. In the house she will not eat even a hamburger unless she thinks no one can see her. She will follow me on a leash with lots of coaxing, but doesn?t come when you call her if she has no leash on. She has the kind of skin that shows her every facial muscle move, so her sweet face is very very expressive. Right now it shows lots of fear and sadness, but I?m hoping it will soon show the cute dimples she gets with a rare smile. I think it would be best for her to have a home with another dog to show her life is good now, because she understands dog body language and trusts dogs, but she is afraid of people for now. Without Candy I think she is feeling very vulnerable and has no other dog to snuggle with. She is scheduled to be spayed on the 19th.
