Margot has been with us for a few weeks and is adapting just great. She was a bit nervous when she arrived—something that I’ve noticed about her when she is in a new situation. She may whimper and shake for a bit, but eventually she calms down.

After a few days she was already used to our daily routine. She is very calm and mellow for a 3-year-old and although she loves being cuddled and having her belly rubbed, she has no problem just plopping herself on the couch away from us when she wants a break.

We have had a few visitors over since Margot’s been here, and she is more reserved when someone new enters the house. She will come over to where I am and whimper and bark a bit. Once the new person settles in, Margot eventually warms up to them. She is basically a big, sweet baby.

We went to the vet last week and they said she looks great! She loved the car ride there and, again, was a little nervous during the visit but nothing that a few treats from the vet didn’t fix.

They said she is lean and tall and commented on how strong and muscular her legs were and thought she must be very athletic. It makes sense as Margot is very into counter surfing when we aren’t looking, and she looks like a grown person when she stands at the counter. We are trying to work on this!

She loves our daily walks and does very well. She is strong and I anticipated some pulling, but she stays on a steady pace and of course likes to sniff around but doesn’t sway. We haven’t come across anything yet that might distract her, so I’m unsure how she would react.

Margot does like to find items in the house and carry them around. Today I found one of my gloves and one slipper in a pile on our bed. She doesn’t destroy them, but just likes to be busy! She will try to get into any open garbage cans in the bathroom, but won’t bother them if they are covered.

Margot sleeps in her dog bed in our room at night. However, she seems to quietly wiggle her way onto the end of our bed sometime during night! She was used to her crate at her former home, and we have one out readily available if she wants to use it.

The few times we did have her in her crate, she whined and cried, so we just started using a gate in our mud room when we aren’t home and we haven’t had any issues. She only has free roam when we are home and are aware of where she is. 

Margot is an only dog in our home, and we haven’t yet tested her with other dogs. However, she did have a smaller dog sibling in her former home and was reported to get along with both male and female dogs, as well as cats.

We haven’t tested Margot with children, and she did not come from a home with children. But if we determine that she is indeed comfortable around kids, as reported by her surrendering owner, older children would be recommended because of Margot’s size. When I get home from work, she gets so excited and jumps up for some love. She is as tall as me when she does this!

Margot knows the commands to sit, shake, stay, and lay down. She isn’t the greatest at always coming when her name is called, which is why I think a fenced yard would be ideal for her. 

We are enjoying Margot so much—she has been the sweetest girl.
