Updates

Maria wants her RAGOM fans to know what she has been up to since her long outdated last update. In March, she went in for her yearly physical exam and had all her required vaccinations updated. She saw a new vet, Dr. Kelly, and she received a clean bill of health.
Foster Dad asked the new vet for her opinion of Maria's hip dysplasia, and Dr. Kelly said she would consider Maria to have a mild to moderate case of hip dysplasia. So, it is recommended to keep her on the lean side and moderate exercise (sorry, no marathon runs for this girl). Maria takes a low dose of carprofen morning and night to help relieve any pain in her hips. She weighs just over 60 pounds.
Since May, Maria has been traveling monthly with Foster Dad and the resident dogs to his cabin up north. Maria loves it up there! She can walk on the quiet country road and not have to fear traffic or pedestrians or bicyclists. She actually gets excited when she sees Foster Dad put on his tennis shoes and even more so when she sees him grab the orange Ruff Wear harness. Some of the walks are up to 2 miles and others are a mile. She likes to take in many of the new smells each day on the walks.
On July 24, Maria attended her first ever meet-and-greet at the Shakopee Chuck and Don's store. Some of the visitors barely noticed Maria was there. She hunkered down in the corner of the building, and that was her safe zone. She did come out when she saw other dogs and she did sniff a few visitors' hands and then received some wonderful scratches and pats from them.
Like many of the retired breeder dogs, Maria takes confidence and security from another confident dog. Loud noises and sudden movements will spook her. Maria's safe spot has mainly been her crate, but she now knows how comfortable the human bed can be at times. She started to venture more from her crate from the unending fireworks this year. She is grateful that those have mostly stopped!
Watch for Maria at more upcoming meet-and-greets, provided she is not up at her lake home!

First off, Maria wants to give a big Thank-You to her anonymous sponsor for their generous gift and kind note! Maria truly does love to surround herself with her toys, also known as her babies. Her crate/safe spot is usually chock full of toys. She does notice when Foster Dad takes one from her crate. She is usually fairly quick in gently returning her toy/baby back to her crate.
Maria has been in foster care for 9 months now. She is more brave inside the house and will frequently come out from her crate to get hugs and kisses when she sees the other dogs getting them. Outside of the house, it is still a challenge to build up her confidence and sense of security. The strong winds we have had the past few days sends her scurrying to get back inside, or sometimes she just plain refuses to go outside in the windy weather.
Maria wishes her fans a Happy Holiday Season! And kisses to her sponsor!
XOXO,
Maria

Take a good look at my face. I am the face of a rescue dog. I am not a perfect dog. I was sold in March at a large dog auction sale in Missouri.
We do not know the reason Maria was sold. Maybe she wasn't producing large enough litters of puppies. Or maybe it was because her breeder realized she has bad back hips (hip dysplasia). Whatever the reason, she will know nothing but love and kindness from here on out.
If you can look past that and accept Maria for the sweet, gentle soul she is, then please submit an Inquiry for Application. Her ideal home would have minimal stairs and would preferably be a quiet home. She turned four years old in early June.

Maria says Foster Dad is way behind in his updates on her activities. Maria has been busy the past several months. In both May and June, she traveled up north to the family cabin. She did well each time on the 4-hour car rides.
While there in June, we worked up to going on long walks. We started slow and went for short distances. By the end of our stay, she was able to walk a little over 2 miles round trip to the highway and back. Maria loved to check out the new sights and smells, especially those wild daisies.
For the 4th of July, she traveled to a friend's farm to escape the noise of the fireworks. Maria does not seem to be as bothered by the fireworks as the resident dogs. We were able to do some walks on the country road and a trail between some fields before the really high heat and humidity set in.
Maria was spayed at the end of May and recovered beautifully. I guess my working remotely from home really helped that recovery. She celebrated her 4th birthday early in June. And now she has a family that is very interested in meeting her. Keep your paws crossed that the meetings go well for Maria and the family!
Thanks for following Maria and her journeys!

Welcome to Maria 20-067. Maria came into RAGOM from an auction sale in Missouri on March 21. Maria is a beautiful dark red girl that will be 4 years old in June. We were able to get a quick wellness exam in before all of the COVID-19 stay-in-place orders took effect. Maria is up to date on all her vaccines and weighs in at just over 50 pounds.
Foster Dad has mostly been working from home since Maria arrived. So this has made it very easy to bring her into the home. We have only had a few accidents, so house training is going very well. Maria likes to sleep mostly in her crate, but has on occasion joined the resident dogs on the human bed.
With the warmer spring weather and windows open, Maria is not a fan of a few loud motorcycles that have driven by. She will pace back and forth until it quiets down and we assure her that everything is okay. She didn't react to our early morning thunder and lightning this morning.
Thank you, RAGOM, for figuring out a way to bring Maria and a van full of dogs from the auction when the world was shutting down!
