Max has arrived in the great northwoods of Minnesota, living at a foster home in Virginia. Max is a neutered 3 year old male that came to Ragom because his family didn't have the time to spend with him and because he was a little too big for the daycare kids. He is a great looking Golden, who originally came from California. Max has a thick long coat of medium golden color, has very long feathering on his rear legs and tail and that big blocky head - he is quite the looker! Max is a "Big Boy", not so tall but big as meaning he needs to lose some weight. He is a real sweetie that loves tennis balls and loves to cuddle with a stuffed animal. We're going to get him to the Vet and get him updated on his shots and tested for Heartworm, then he'll be ready for his forever home.

Just wanted to send an update on Max. We adopted Max at Thanksgiving, and he has fit into our lives perfectly! He is getting along very well with our ten year old Golden, Sam, adopted from RAGOM in 1996. Max is exactly what we were looking for. He's a beautiful big boy, and he is the gentlest dog we've ever seen. He rolls over to get tummy rubs whenever we reach out a hand! He lives to be petted and to chase tennis balls! Steve takes him out everyday to a park or to the frozen pond behind our house and throws the tennis ball so the dogs can retrieve and get lots of exercise. Max doesn't like the Gentle Leader very well, but he is learning. Having Max around has perked Sam up considerably, and he is more active.

We are grateful for the help of the RAGOM volunteers who helped us find Max, including Crystal, Jill, Jennifer, Konnie and most of all, Jean, who brought Max to us during her Thanksgviving vacation! We were amazed and happy when Max jumped out of Jean's car, and it didn't take long to know that we had finally found the perfect match for us!

Max is doing wonderful in his foster home, he is a great dog and anyone that meets him will fall for this big Teddy Bear. This last weekend Max and I went away for a long weekend of R & R, I got to find out just how great he is - he no longer had the other dogs competing for my attention. Max is a real sweetheart and even my girlfriend thinks so, he was a real gentleman the whole time - we did catch him on the couch once though when we got back from shopping. He had a curiosity towards the cat but respected her space. Max loves to cuddle and if you allow, he loves to sleep with you, leaning against your legs or back - always touching.

Max still likes to pull when walking and I haven't done a lot of work with him on the Gentle Leader as the ones I have are too small. I have used them a few times on Max but am waiting for a bigger one for him. Since he loves the tennis ball, his exercise program is real easy. We walk to the ball fields, I throw the tennis ball until I get tired out as it seems that Max will never get tired of retrieving the tennis ball. Max does not know how to play with other dogs, he is very good with other dogs though, Max is always the submissive one. He would do good in a home that has another dog that doesn't feel the need to play - as a senior dog - or in a home where he is the only dog. He is much more interested in what his people are doing versus what the dogs are doing.

I'm hoping to get his picture on the Web site this week, so if you're interested you should act fast - when this beautiful (inside and out) boy gets on the Web he'll be in demand. Right now he is snoozing in the crate with his little stuffed animal in his mouth and his paw also resting on his animal - wish I could get a picture - it is soooo cute -- but he'll be up to follow me as soon I go to get the camera.
