Max arrived here 24 hours ago and all I can say is, this guy is the biggest teddy bear gentleman! He came from a shelter in Iowa that was also a vet's office (thank you to you all for giving him such great love and care). He was the office dog there and was allowed to roam freely in the office. Max is very obedient, house trained and kennel trained.
In fact, my resident Golden Lucy could learn a few things from him.
He went to the vet this morning and Max is in great health and weighed in at 75 lbs. The entire staff there thought him to be the biggest sweetheart and very well behaved.
I was told he has some issues, with only some dogs, with dog-dog aggression. However, the initial meeting with Lucy was uneventful and they are good friends now. I was a bit nervous about this at first, because Lucy can have a bit of an attitude sometimes, but Max established himself as the alpha dog and they now respect each other's personalities and play and chase each other. In fact, Lucy likes to flirt with him, then he chases her around like a couple of teenagers.
I was also told he liked to guard his toys and bones. I saw this happen initially, but after Lucy realized that she should not try to take his stuff, all is well (I told you she could learn a thing or two from him). He also now respects when she has a toy and does not try to take it from her. I will continue to monitor this, but I think it is just a matter of the two dogs getting to know and respect each other further.
He is a very playful dog that likes to run in our fenced in backyard. As mentioned, Max and Lucy will play and chase each other 'til they are tired out. I'm not sure if he'll run if given a chance, so at this point, I would recommend a forever home with a fenced yard. But as I mentioned, he is very obedient and listens vey well.
I am very happy that Max is settling in great here and seems to be very happy with his new settings. Now it's time to find him a Forever Home. Could that be you? I can't say enough good things about this big guy who loves attention, but will not overload you with it. He listens very well and does not have much interest in getting on furniture and has zero interest in the 3 resident cats. Did I mention that he loves to give hugs (but only if you ask him to)?
He met the neighbors' 4 year old son thru the fence yesterday and was very gentle about it. I will try to get him to meet some additional kids in person, and I suspect he will do great, as I was told he does. It is sad to think about the circumstances that Max endured that brought him to be a RAGOM pup, but that is all behind him now and he is ready
to start living the happy life of the happy puppy he is. He is full of energy and love to give and I can just tell this guy is going to be a perfect dog for some lucky family.
If you'd like to meet Max in person to see what I mean, just email RAGOM at Placement
ragom [dot] org to set up a visit with him. He looks forward to meeting you and giving you a chance to stare into his handsome brown eyes that just tell you, "I will love you forever...."
