Max 07-110

Profile

3/26/07: Max is a Golden/Lab mix and is eagerly awaiting a foster home.  He is a tall boy and likes to run and play like a tall puppy. He is on meds for ear infections.  He is very nice but needs to burn off the puppy like energy.  He is about 5 years old and weighs in at 60lbs.  He can be a little head shy, not sure if he was scolded by being hit in the head... but has been very well behaved here.  He comes from inside and runs right into his dog kennel with a doggy smile on his face.

It is with both a sad heart and and very happy one that I am announcing that our gentle giant has been adopted.  Max was our first foster and he was such a delight and charm to have into our home. All the 'issues' we were told he has seemed to not exist and merely faded away as he became a happy dog.

He left this evening and went with a wonderful family that will keep him on the tracks of the golden life he so deserves. Every night when I put him to bed, I gave him a hug and a kiss. Then I whispered a promise into his ear that no one would ever hurt him again. The B family will continue that promise and see it thru. There are some new photos of Max for his last update. You can just see the happiness in his smile and eyes....One is the last photo taken of him and his girlfriend Lucy....

We will miss Max greatly and Lucy is wondering where her boyfriend is. Little does she know that her new boyfriend,  Duke 07-581, will be arriving here soon......

Thank you for following the adventures of Max. He's a happy dog in a happy place now and that is the goal of RAGOM. As I mentioned, he was our first foster. It has been so rewarding being part of this group. It is such a great thing. Thank you.

Max says hi and thank you also.....

Yesterday marked two months since Max came to live with us as our first foster dog from RAGOM.  All I can say is it has been so rewarding seeing this big guy come out of his shell and really prosper and turn into the oh so happy dog he is now.

Max is such a good dog.  If only someone would give him the chance at a forever home, they'd see just what we have seen.  He is handsome, well behaved, very obedient and very good with people.

He has vastly improved on his resource guarding and now sometimes willingly gives us items when we ask for them.  We will continue to work with him on this and anticipate even better stories in the future.

As I write this, Lucy and Max are napping at my feet.  They had a busy morning helping me paint the shed.  As you can see from the photos and the white spots on Max, he got a little too close when he was helping me...He's such a big teddy bear.  We call him our big doofus.  He's so happy go lucky and sometimes comes off as clumsy in such a cute way.

To this day, Max has had no accidents in the house and loves to ride in the car with us.  He and Lucy still love playing 'til they are all tired out (like right now).

Take a look at the new photos of him and ask yourself, "why not?".  I know he will make you and your family one great dog.

Please contact RAGOM placement at placementatragom [dot] org when you are ready to let this big bundle of joy into your home.

Thank you for reading up on our big doofus Max.  He looks forward to meeting you.

Max is still doing great in our home. He had some storm anxiety last weekend with the storms that came thru.  He whimpered and just prefers to be next to you when it storms.  I laid on the couch and allowed him to climb up on top of me and lay across me and put his head under my arm.  He was a big teddy bear.

We had a trainer from the K9 Coach come out and work with Max on his resource guarding.  She showed us different ways to work with Max to slowly get him out of this habit.  She was surprised how quickly he was picking up on it and we will continue to work with him.  He is a smart dog and a fast learner.  Until this habit has been broken, I would hesitate to adopt Max out to a home with small children often present.

Max is still hoping to meet his forever parents soon so he can get settled in and start showing them some love and companionship.

Here’s a photo of his handsome eyes that melt and mesmerize you with love.

Thank you for reading up on Max.

Max continues to do well here at our house.  There are some new pics of the golden boy having fun and lounging in the back yard. Max and Lucy do not play as much outside with the heat, but we still have our pool parties where she sits in the water and he just stands and gets his feet wet.

He did well on another walk the other night.  He did a little pulling, but walked well and was very attentive.

I was gone for three days last week.  My wife watched the dogs and Max was so excited when I got home.  He was moaning and groaning with joy when I came in the door.  I think he becomes really attached to male figures from what I've seen.

He still wants to meet his forever parent(s) and find a forever home that will return all the love he has to give.  How can anyone resist after seeing the pics of him and his handsome brown eyes.

Please contact the RAGOM placement at placementatragom [dot] org if you'd like to meet this fine upstanding fella.

Max thanks you for reading his profile and keeping up to date on his latest adventures....

Here are some new photos of the happy Max.  All but one are of him alone.  One is of him and his flirtatious girlfriend, Lucy.

Max arrived here 24 hours ago and all I can say is, this guy is the biggest teddy bear gentleman! He came from a shelter in Iowa that was also a vet's office (thank you to you all for giving him such great love and care).  He was the office dog there and was allowed to roam freely in the office.  Max is very obedient, house trained and kennel trained.
In fact, my resident Golden Lucy could learn a few things from him.

He went to the vet this morning and Max is in great health and weighed in at 75 lbs.  The entire staff there thought him to be the biggest sweetheart and very well behaved.

I was told he has some issues, with only some dogs, with dog-dog aggression.  However, the initial meeting with Lucy was uneventful and they are good friends now.  I was a bit nervous about this at first, because Lucy can have a bit of an attitude sometimes, but Max established himself as the alpha dog and they now respect each other's personalities and play and chase each other.  In fact, Lucy likes to flirt with him, then he chases her around like a couple of teenagers.

I was also told he liked to guard his toys and bones.  I saw this happen initially, but after Lucy realized that she should not try to take his stuff, all is well (I told you she could learn a thing or two from him). He also now respects when she has a toy and does not try to take it from her.  I will continue to monitor this, but I think it is just a matter of the two dogs getting to know and respect each other further.

He is a very playful dog that likes to run in our fenced in backyard. As mentioned, Max and Lucy will play and chase each other 'til they are tired out.  I'm not sure if he'll run if given a chance, so at this point, I would recommend a forever home with a fenced yard.  But as I mentioned, he is very obedient and listens vey well.

I am very happy that Max is settling in great here and seems to be very happy with his new settings.  Now it's time to find him a Forever Home. Could that be you? I can't say enough good things about this big guy who loves attention, but will not overload you with it.  He listens very well and does not have much interest in getting on furniture and has zero interest in the 3 resident cats.  Did I mention that he loves to give hugs (but only if you ask him to)?

He met the neighbors' 4 year old son thru the fence yesterday and was very gentle about it.  I will try to get him to meet some additional kids in person, and I suspect he will do great, as I was told he does. It is sad to think about the circumstances that Max endured that brought him to be a RAGOM pup, but that is all behind him now and he is ready
to start living the happy life of the happy puppy he is.  He is full of energy and love to give and I can just tell this guy is going to be a perfect dog for some lucky family.

If you'd like to meet Max in person to see what I mean, just email RAGOM at Placementatragom [dot] org to set up a visit with him.  He looks forward to meeting you and giving you a chance to stare into his handsome brown eyes that just tell you, "I will love you forever...."

Max has been boarded at our animal hospital for over a month.  We have so fallen for him that we now let him stay loose up front in the office much of the day.  He is totally housebroken.  Loves to play tug.  Loves rawhide bones, and shows no guarding issues with them when I try to take them away.  He loves to stand up and hug, which depending on his forever family's preference, he may need to be re-trained to keep four on the floor :)  He is almost taller than I am when he stands - of course I am a shorty!  His coat is shorter like a Lab but is a red/gold color that is very unusual and oh, so handsome.  We have all fallen for him, head over heels!  He is a loving, caring dog that bonds with and loves humans, and will be a great family member.

Obviously he would not be here for this long if he had no "issues".  He does - don't we all?! - but they easy to work around.  He's not overly fond of some other dogs.  I would also be hesitant with small children due to his size, and because one time as I was petting him while he had his rawhide, he must have mistaken me for a dog that my tech had just walked through the clinic.  He growled until he looked up, realized it was me, and immediately wagged his tail, grabbed his bone, and wiggled his butt like he always does, wanting me to tug on that bone!  There is the potential for resource guarding with other dogs and perhaps little kids who are unwise to such things.  He actually gets along great with my female Collie.  We also brought a puppy up front with him the other day, and he seemd to like her, too - only growled when she went near his bone, and the pup responded appropriately.  I do suspect his issue is worse when on a leash, tie out, or fenced away from another dog.

To summarize, if you are a person in an adult household looking for your new and only dog, Max is PERFECT FOR YOU!  I guarantee you will love him like we do.  He has a lot of love to give to the right person or people.
