Max 12-058

I am please to introduce a new RAGOM boy...Max! The best way to describe Max is almost golden and almost perfect! Max is a 12-18 month old golden mix, thought to be Golden Retriever and Australian Shepherd. He looks very Golden other than his 49 lb. frame, white tuft on his chest and bright gold eyes.

Max was found at a resort in northern MN as a stray that had been hanging around a fishing lodge for about a week. A very nice family from the Twin Cities was there and took him into their fish house for warmth and some food. When they realized he had no collar, no tag, no microchip and no search party, they contacted RAGOM and he started his golden life! Max is very grateful to this family who gave him a wonderful start to his RAGOM life.

Max came to us on Wednesday (thank you Jim!) and has been an absolute delight. He met our resident princess, a 14 year old cockapoo, Trixie with great manners and she loves him! While he was at the nice family's house for several days he was around older children and cats without any issue. He has not had any accidents, barks to go out, knows lots of commands and has not chewed on a thing.

Max went to the veterinarian this weekend and she gave us more information on his possible breed and age, as mentioned above. She said he seemed to be a very healthy young man! Max did however test positive for exposure to two tick borne diseases- lyme's and anaplasma. He is not showing any clinical symptoms of these diseases but at some point was exposed. Max is unlikely to ever be ill from this, but he could possibly show symptoms later in life and it would be treated then. The vet explained this is nothing to be concerned about as he seems to be in fantastic health.

Kennel training has been a new thing for Max but he is doing very well. He needs some persuasion (treats) to go in and he cries and howls for a few minutes and then is just fine and goes to sleep. He has been staying in his crate during the day while we are at work and sleeping on a dog bed by ours during the night. He likes to hop in bed right before he goes in his for a few cuddles and then likes to sleep alone in his bed.

There are only a few Max quirks we have found! Max LOVES attention and being right by his people ALL the time. If he is unable to see you or be right next to you he has quite a loud and very cute howl that he saves for calling his people and expressing happiness with playing! Max is a picky eater, he likes his food and that is about it! He is currently very much enjoying duck and sweet potato all-natural dry food but has no interest in human food, even healthy human food our resident princess dog gets made for her!

Max will be neutered next week and ready to meet his new family. We think he would enjoy a family with lots of energy as he loves to play, lots of love as he loves to kiss and lots of time as he is a very young boy who loves to be around his family, not in his crate! Please stayed tuned for more info on this sweet, sweet boy!

Does this cone make my butt look big? Poor Max had to have a cone after his neuter surgery on Monday when he started trying to chew on his stitches. As you can tell by the picture, he does not like his new accessory.

Max had his surgery on Monday AM. When I went to pick him up, the volunteers were all around his crate; of course he was the cutest one there! I had to tell many people in the waiting room and at the office that he a "wait list" pup and they couldn't keep him! He has been resting at home with his Foster Dad the last few days. He very much dislikes the cone and has a few ways to get it off of himself! We are trying to be home with him 100% so that he does not have to wear it.

Max had a great weekend- he met a family that is interested in adopting him and he learned how to get out of his cage to find his sister, Trixie.

Max loved the family he met on Sunday- they have two boys with lots of energy and love to give to Max. Please cross your paws they feel the same way!

This weekend we left Max in his crate for a bit when we went to run some errands. When we returned he was sitting in the living room waiting for us...how did he get out? We learned that he knows how to pull on the wire crate enough to get the latch to pull. What a smart boy. We then left him out of his cage for a few hours and he did wonderfully- no chewing, potty marks, anything- just lounging with a little lady name Trix.

Max continues to be a perfect little angel. His main goals in life are to be loved, give hugs and look good. So far, he has met many life goals while still a baby!

Max-a-Million One-in-a-Million has an exciting few days coming up! Max is meeting a family on Sunday!! We are very excited for Max and the family to meet as they have two boys and Max would love to have two brothers to hang out with. Max is always on his best behavior so I didn't even have to tell him to crank up the cute and sweet!

Monday is the "big-day" when Max gets neutered. We have been telling him it probably won't be the best day of his life, but that we will make sure he is very comfortable and pampered after his surgery!

Max has been doing wonderfully with us. He still has not had any accidents, chewed a thing or done anything even remotely naughty. He loves to be around us and loves to lounge :-) I think the best part about Max is that he climbs into bed right as we go to bed for a few minutes as he loves to snuggle and then he hops down into his bed right next to our little dog, Trixie, and stays there all night.

Speaking of Trixie...she learned a lesson about the differences between boy dogs and girl dogs. Her last golden sibling was a pretty lady who sat to tinkle! Trixie learned the funny way the Max does not sit to tinkle but stays standing up! Trixie likes to sometimes get very close to Max (he of course does not mind) and they are outside she likes to stand right underneath him. As he was having a potty break she walked right under there and got tinkled on! Whoops!

Please stay tuned to see how Max's visit on Sunday goes! Any family that ends up with Max is a lucky family; he is Max-a-Million One-in-a-Million!!

Hey, Max here. Today I am celebrating a few holidays...

First, it is my one week anniversary with my foster family, we have learned a lot about each other!
Second, yesterday was Fat Tuesday and I celebrated by eating lots of duck and sweet potato food. I even got a taste of foster mom's dinner :-)
Most importantly, it is Ash Wednesday and I have decided I am giving up being homeless for Lent! Any takers out there to support me in this sacrifice?

The last week has been super fun. I am getting much more comfortable with my foster mom and foster dad and I am falling quite in love with their resident dog, Trixie. She is 14, a little crabby and old, but she doesn't give me any fuss when I sleep next to her so, I go with it. Trixie and I love to hang in the backyard together, roaming around and sniffing things. Trixie taught me this new thing at the foster home- it is a game called "back." We sit on the landing of the stairs or in the living room while foster mom and foster dad eat and if we relax and stay back we get a treat at the end. It is a great way to prevent any begging we would consider because we know if we just wait and are quiet we will get a super good treat! Below is a picture of us on "back"- notice we even have to do it when friends are over?

Speaking of treats- I am not super into them. When I first got here, foster mom's "health nuttiness" really was getting to me- nothing unnatural, no preservatives, no artificial yummy? I decided I was going on a hunger strike! Now, I have realized this natural food is actually pretty tasty; however the only treats I like are Charlie Bears and cheddar cheese. Here is a picture of us waiting for some tasty treats. Notice I don't steal Trixie's...that is because she is old and crabby and will growl at me. I never growl back though!

The last few days my foster dad has worked at home which has been super great. Did I mention I LOVE people! For the most part I just sit on the couch and watch him but every once in a while I head over to his desk to play a little. The best part about not being home alone...no crate! Whenever the humans leave I go in my crate, a little cheese and I go in nicely- forget the cheese and I am out of here dude. If I am not in my crate and one of my foster parents leave I get very upset. The last few days when foster mom left for work I threw a temper tantrum, scratching doors and crying to get out to her car. Once dad calmed me down and played with me I was just fine all day.

I explained I am giving up being homeless for Lent. That does not mean I am giving up BRAGGING!

- I am super good looking- very dark red and soft with super fluffy feathers. Some people even think I could be part Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever- ooh lala!
- I am very sweet- I never growl, bite or act crabby. I mainly like hugs, kisses and cuddles.
- I am pretty buff- a trim 49 pounds of solid muscle made for running, fetching and playing
- I LOVE everyone- humans, dogs, cats. As long as they are around I will hang out by them.

Well the list could go on and on but I heard something about playtime outside so gotta run!
