Max 13-180

Look at this beauty. Max came from the Grand Forks area and now resides in Olivia, MN with his foster. Beautiful red Golden Retriever who gives kisses, high five, high ten, shakes and knows sit. Max is 9 years old, up to date on all shots, and will be neutered this Friday.

Here are things I have learned about Max-

  • No small animals due to high prey drive - cats, rabbits, etc.
  • He will need a fence as he wanders and has some slight hearing problems.
  • Probably better with older children as will paw to get more attentions once he is petted and you stop petting, and Max has large nails.
  • He sleeps on the floor, was offered the bed but prefers the floor.
  • Max is house trained, but will mark when outside.
  • He does pull a little on the leash with harness but loves to go for walks.
  • Rides well in the backseat of the car, will lay down.
  • Max loves the water and plays in the pool or just stands in it to cool off. Sometimes he will lay in the pool.
  • He will play with a ball, but you will need two as he will not give the first one up unless you trade.
  • He will chew fuzz off tennis balls or toys.
  • He eats slowly and is used to having food out all the time - working on to get him on more of a schedule morning and night.
  • Max takes treats nicely.
  • Does not counter surf or get in the garbage.
  • His energy level is low right now due to his weight (84.2 pounds) and little exercise or play. Doing walks with Max and learning to play ball to lose some weight.
  • I am working on separation anxiety when he is left alone for short periods. He wants to bark and scratch or jump on the door. This may also decrease with another dog around, but we don't know at this time.

Max met the Culligan people today and was fine with greeting new people. Tail wags and going right up for pets.

Max has had chronic ear infections that were untreated and thus he has cauliflower-ed ears. This means the vessels in the ears are enlarged making the ears feel thick and lumpy. He is currently on medications for his ear infection.

He has areas on both front legs that have calluses from laying on cement a lot and I am treating them with lotion to keep them soft. You may notice this in the picture where he is by the pool.

Currently Max has not been kid tested or dog tested as he is the only dog in my home at present and this will be addressed in further updates, so keep watching.

It has been 2 weeks since we brought Max from Minnesota to Lincoln, Nebraska. Max has adjusted well - he is enjoying his forever home (already has his spot on the couch). He likes his car rides, walks in the neighborhood and the freedom to run at the dog park.

Thank you to everyone who has cared for Max - he is a GREAT family pet and a wonderful addition to our family.

Hi all, I wanted to say HAPPY HALLOWEEN! I am so glad my foster decided to make a Halloween scarecrow, instead of dressing me up.

I actually found out I am going to see a potential forever family this weekend, so keep your fingers crossed.

Max is still waiting for his forever home, but enjoying his new friend Rusty 04-374. They like to go into garden and eat tomatoes. Max still loves his car rides and meeting new people. I have a picture of them going into the garden. Max actually will pick ripe tomatoes off the vine when he finds them. Max now loves to nap on the couch or bed when I am on the computer. He finally realized it is much softer and comfortable than the floor.

Max has a high food drive, so any food left from another dog, he would eat if he could. So he has to be watched around eating times, so he doesn't end up gaining too much weight. He loves to be brushed and massaged and will just sink down to the floor after you have started brushing or massaging him.

Max to me is a loveable, huggable Golden who gives kisses and lots of love. If you're interested in Max, contact placement at RAGOM.

Hi all followers of Max. I want to let you know he does not bother the cats in my house or outside with pictures of him with one of the cats. The cat will come into house from outside and rub up against Max. He has learned not all cats are bad. Sometimes the cat will play hide-and-seek with Max at the edge of the alfalfa field, but so far when watching Max has always found him hiding.

Max is also enjoying some of the fall harvest. He loves apples, tomatoes and squash so far.

He loves to ride in the car and go to meet people or get out for a walk as I live in the country. Max is also learning to sleep on the futon instead of the floor at times and can really snooze there. Max always knows the routine and will stay in the living room napping if I am working in the kitchen.

Hurrah! Max passed his test in meeting kids and another dog over Labor Day. He likes children age 8-14 and doesn't jump around them. He also played a little tag and wrestling but needs a couple of days to get to know the other dog first. He usually just goes his own way for a while even though the other dog wants to play. Max will play with squeak toys by himself, tossing them around at times. He loves to be outside and comes back if wanders too far away from me now. Max gets along with my house cats even when they are outside, so he only needs to learn the cats are okay when introducing them. Max still loves his time in the water, and after being with me walking around a while, he will just go to pool and lay down and relax. If you would love to see Max for adoption, just get a hold of RAGOM. He is ready to find a new forever home.
