Look at this beauty. Max came from the Grand Forks area and now resides in Olivia, MN with his foster. Beautiful red Golden Retriever who gives kisses, high five, high ten, shakes and knows sit. Max is 9 years old, up to date on all shots, and will be neutered this Friday.
Here are things I have learned about Max-
- No small animals due to high prey drive - cats, rabbits, etc.
- He will need a fence as he wanders and has some slight hearing problems.
- Probably better with older children as will paw to get more attentions once he is petted and you stop petting, and Max has large nails.
- He sleeps on the floor, was offered the bed but prefers the floor.
- Max is house trained, but will mark when outside.
- He does pull a little on the leash with harness but loves to go for walks.
- Rides well in the backseat of the car, will lay down.
- Max loves the water and plays in the pool or just stands in it to cool off. Sometimes he will lay in the pool.
- He will play with a ball, but you will need two as he will not give the first one up unless you trade.
- He will chew fuzz off tennis balls or toys.
- He eats slowly and is used to having food out all the time - working on to get him on more of a schedule morning and night.
- Max takes treats nicely.
- Does not counter surf or get in the garbage.
- His energy level is low right now due to his weight (84.2 pounds) and little exercise or play. Doing walks with Max and learning to play ball to lose some weight.
- I am working on separation anxiety when he is left alone for short periods. He wants to bark and scratch or jump on the door. This may also decrease with another dog around, but we don't know at this time.
Max met the Culligan people today and was fine with greeting new people. Tail wags and going right up for pets.
Max has had chronic ear infections that were untreated and thus he has cauliflower-ed ears. This means the vessels in the ears are enlarged making the ears feel thick and lumpy. He is currently on medications for his ear infection.
He has areas on both front legs that have calluses from laying on cement a lot and I am treating them with lotion to keep them soft. You may notice this in the picture where he is by the pool.
Currently Max has not been kid tested or dog tested as he is the only dog in my home at present and this will be addressed in further updates, so keep watching.
