Do do do do do dooooo (that is the trumpet sounding):  Introducing Maximus to the RAGOM family!  Max is an 8 year old, male, pure bred Golden Retriever.  He weighs 67 lbs and is neutered and micro-chipped.  He is completely housebroken and will even gently nose you at night if he needs to go out.  Max is UTD and on HeartGuard and Frontline.  Max is also on medication for a slow thyroid.   He was surrendered by an incredibly loving family who has a child who is VERY allergic to Max.  It was a tough decision for them and I know they must miss Max very much...Max misses you guys too!   Max came from a home with children ages infant and up.  He is very gentle with our 23 month old daughter.  I think he would love to go to home with kids to play with!  Max went to the vet today.  He looks great, although he does have a staph infection on some portions of his skin.  This is an easy fix with antibiotics and it should be cleared up in a couple of weeks. Max is a very talented boy.  He knows several commands, including sit, lay, down, come and stay.  He can also hold a treat on his nose and wait for the 'okay' to get it!  I love that trick!  Max is also a beautiful boy!  He is lighter golden color with a beautiful coat.  His looks are nothing compared to his golden personality!  He is such an easy-going and happy boy!  He seeks attention and will nudge your hand for more petting!  If you are interested in Max, please contact your placement advisor!  He is such a great big love...he won't be around long!

It's with great sadness that I report my darling dog, Max went over the Rainbow Bridge on April 12, 2012. He was such a gem! Always happy, always full of energy and always loving everyone. In November 2011, he was diagnosed with a sarcoma. It was a lump high in his left hind leg and so tight to the bone the vet said his leg would need to be amputated. We chose to take him to an oncology specialist. She gave the same diagnosis but said we could try cyclophosphamide, a chemotherapy drug. We did that (along with prayer) and Max did wonderfully well. The lump shrunk and the vet said it was a miracle!!! Max continued to run and play and be his cheerful self.

The last time we saw the vet on March 29th she heard an arrhythmia of the heart. I believe his sudden death that morning was caused by something with his heart. The night before he was just fine- nothing wrong.

I so miss how straight and perfect Max sat for a treat, how much he made me laugh when he played wiht his toys and threw them all over the living room, how he slept on our bed with me when my husband wasn't there and his sweet face always looking for me when I got home.

Thank you Jaime and RAGOM for letting me adopt Max and be a part of his life these past 2 1/2 years. I sure do miss him!!!

Max is doing great!  He is finished with his antibiotics for his staph infection.  His skin looks fantastic and I know he must be feeling better.  Max has become a bit of a velcro dog...unless he is outside and then it is tough getting him to come in.  He seems to really enjoy his outside time and prefers it when we are outside with him!  He must know that winter is coming and we have to take advantage of the nice weather while we have it!

We have found out that Max has a fixation with the bathroom trash!  As gross as it is, that is the only trash can that he seems interested in.  We are working on correcting this behavior, but he is sneaky...we rarely catch him.  But we know that it is him because he always seems to have toilet paper hanging off of his paw...it is pretty funny to see!

Max is a wonderful dog.  We have just fallen head over heels for him around here.

Max does have a potential adoptive family coming to see him on September 28th.  We think that this will be a wonderful fit for Max and the "F" family.  I know Max is looking forward to finding his permanent home and falling in love with his future family!

Hello again!  Max’s staph infection is almost completely cleared up and he is feeling good!  We have been getting to know Max and here is what we think that he will need in his next home:

  • Max would enjoy being an only dog, although he really does love to play with our resident Golden, Trax.
  • Max does not care to be groomed.  We are working on making brushing and grooming a positive experience for him.
  • Max does jump up on strangers and us when he gets excited and wants attention and to meet new people.  However, he is very gentle with our 23 month old, therefore we think that he would be fine with all ages.  He does seem timid and anxious when there are loud noises, so a quieter household might be better.
  • Max does have a slow thyroid and will require medicine for the remainder of his life.  The vet did inform us that this was an inexpensive medicine, costing about $10 a month.  He receives his thyroid pills twice a day.  I wrap them in a piece of cheese for him and it is no problem.
  • Max did not have any exposure to cats in his former household and has not had any here, as well.  He does not care for the squirrels in our backyard!  He seems to have a high prey drive so a household with a cat may not be best.
  • Max takes a while to trust people, so any potential adoptive family will need to go slow and use lots of positive reinforcement with Max.  He is food motivated, so that makes things a little easier!

Maximus is a beautiful boy who is a joy to foster.  We absolutely love having him with us, but we know that he would prefer to find his "furever" home.  If you are interested in Max, please contact your placement advisor.  I know Max would love to meet you!
