Let me introduce to you Mr. Hunter (10-371). Hunter arrived in MN late Sunday night along with his mother Anna (10-368), and his siblings Parker and Lola. Hunter was rescued from a puppy mill in IA that was given a strict deadline to have all dogs off of the premises. One can only imagine what horrible conditions these poor dogs had been living in.

I would say that Hunter is quite a resilient guy. His whole world was upended. He was taken away from both his parents and his 2 siblings. Luckily he became a RAGOM dog. We gave him a bath right after we got home and did introductions to my resident dogs at midnight. I must say even at such a late hour it went well. The bath... well, let's just say I think FD was as wet as Hunter. At least Hunter smells a bit fresher than his arrival.

Hunter is said to be 7 months old. We will ask our vet on this on Thursday night at our wellness exam. I think he may just a little older based on his size. I am also guessing that Hunter weighs in at 70 -75 pounds. He has a big blocky head and big feet. His fur is super soft and his tail has hardly stopped wagging. He was play bowing with my resident dog Indy first thing Monday morning. They love to chase each other outside.

What Hunter will need in a forever home is:

  • Another confident dog(s) to show him the ropes.
  • No really small children. He is big and does not have any training. So someone that is committed to obedience training is desired.
  • A physical fence is recommended.

FD will update more about Hunter once we have our wellness exam.

Hunter met a wonderful couple on Saturday. He turned on all of his charms plus his handsome good looks and they were hooked. Fortunately FD got to spoil Mr. Hunter aka Happy Pants for one last night. So we lived it up with extra ball games outside (try and tell them it was cold out). We also took a walk and ventured out on the frozen terrain of Prior Lake. Hunter stopped once and I thought he was trying to tell me that this was a prime location for ice fishing. Next time I will have to try and rig the sled up behind one of the four dogs and try that.

Sunday afternoon Hunter's new Moms came and picked him up. They reported back that he rode well in the backseat of the SUV to his new home in Rochester. Hunter is now known as Maxter or Max for short. Max has 2 furr sisters to entertain him. Sofie is a beautiful deep dark red Golden Retriever age 4.5 years, and Gracie is a 3 year old GoldenDoodle. Max will have a fun life as one of his Moms just retired this past December. He has a big back yard and 2 acres of ground around his new home to explore with his sisters. Congratulations to Max, Barb and Peggy and Sofie and Gracie! FD will miss you and your many hugs.

Happy New Year RAGOM fans! It's time for an update on our Mr. Hunter (aka Happy Pants). Hunter made the trip to sw MN for Christmas at FD's Mom with most of his family present (2 brothers and their wives, and 5 nephews and one niece). Let's just say Hunter travels really well and his fan base has definitely grown. On the return trip Hunter must have been a bit lonely in the back seat even though he was next to 2 of my resident dogs. He wiggled his head and front paws onto the center console and was content to get a little head rub every now and then.

Because we were told Hunter was 11 months old when he was surrendered at the end of November we chose to celebrate his 1st birthday at Christmas. Hunter and the resident dogs hit the jack pot with lots of bones, treats, new toys and of course lots of love. Most of my family members were given at least one, if not more, of Hunter's hugs. He just loves to slowly walk up to you and first put his face in your lap, then he usually puts up his front paws and wraps you in an embrace. How can you not adore those big brown eyes on this big boy?

The longer that Hunter has been here the more comfortable he has become. He often entertains himself with one of his new toys. He loves to play tug of war with the rope twists. He also knows how to retrieve the ball. He hasn't figured out how to catch it yet but he keeps trying anyhow. Plus he knows if the grouchy senior cocker spaniel gets the ball he had better back off, which Hunter does right away. FD solves this by tossing another ball into the game and the problem is solved. FD is also learning the new noises of contentment that Hunter can make while playing. Sometimes he whistles and sometimes he snorts.

Outside Hunter loves to chase his foster sisters in the back yard. He also loves to make snow angels. FD is too slow with the camera and has so far managed to capture just a blur. Enjoy the latest pictures of Hunter. One is of Hunter on Christmas morning enjoying a tasty pig's ear, another is of an adolescent who does not know how to put any of his many toys away, and the third picture is of Hunter with his favorite Kong Wubba.

Hunter has a special family just waiting to meet him. If all goes well he will meet this family on Jan. 8th.

First of all Hunter wants to give a huge Thank You to both Grizz and Andy for their generous support of RAGOM through their purchase of the holiday icons. Your generosity enables RAGOM to provide a multitude of veterinary care for the many dogs. Hunter would give you a big hug and more if he could!

Now for an update on Hunter or as FD has been calling him, Mr. Hunter Happy Pants. Hunter is a very happy boy. His whole body and his butt just wiggles when he sees FD. And the longer he has been here the more comfortable he is getting. He sometimes whistles with one of his toys in his mouth. He loves to play tug of war with his huge braided rope twist. He has discovered the tennis balls but has not quite figured out what the retriever in his breed name means. Hunter can be quite the ham at times. He can carry 2 big nyla bones in his mouth at once. Of course FD then tries to tempt him with another toy and the bones drop and the game starts all over again.

Hunter was neutered 2 weeks ago without any issues. My dear vets at Scott Lake sent him home in an Elizabethan collar. The resident dogs were terrified of Hunter and so were the back of FD's calves. Glad to say he only needed to wear the cone for a few days as he was a perfect patient and left his sutures alone to heal up. Hunter weighed in at 68 pounds.

Now that we are past the 2 week mark Hunter is back to full activity. He absolutely loves to play chase in all of the snow we have. He and Indy really like to run full throttle at each other in the back yard. I think before long Hunter will soon join in on the wrestling matches that Indy and Lauren have.

We will report how Hunter interacts with my nephews and niece in our next update. We will be taking a road trip to visit family for the holidays. Hunter is learning many new things very quickly. I have him sit before he gets his food. I am working on getting him to slow down his pace on eating. We tried a muffin tin but he was terrified when his tags clanked on the sides of the tin. He just gulps his food down and shortly thereafter lets out a big burp. I heard that his brother, Parker, does the same thing. Other behaviors we are working on are Hunter's counter-surfing and his borrowing FD's clothes while he is in the shower. The good thing is I always know where to look for my clothes and slippers, yep that would be in or near Hunter's kennel.
