Rou Rou, now known as Mei Li (translates to Beautiful), has been on quite the journey. Her trip from China ended with finding the perfect family in Iowa - who would have guessed!?! She has wonderful, dog-loving parents and a great dog sister.

Mei Li is already enjoying playtime, evening walks, and could not be a luckier dog. She is right where she was meant to be!

Happiest dog ever! This sweet little Golden never stops wagging her tail - she's so upbeat and happy! Rou Rou has been with us for a week now and has fully rested up from her long flight from China.

It didn't take her very long to settle in and figure out the ways of the household. She's made friends with all of our resident dogs and quickly learned the daily routine. Rou Rou is 3 years old, spayed and soon to be current on her vaccines.

She weighs 48 pounds which doesn't sound like a lot but Rou Rou is actually a short dog, shorter than the average Golden, so the vet said she needs to lose weight and we're already working on that.

Rou Rou absolutely loves her people and loves to settle in at their feet whenever possible. She likes to go for a ride in the car, likes to take strolls around the yard and runs with a smile on her face to greet you, even if you've been gone just a few minutes. That expression of joy is so heartwarming.

A few things have puzzled Rou Rou - she spent a few minutes one day just sitting in front of the television and watching the action. For a half second, she thought about being afraid, but then she just sat there and watched. Pretty darn cute.

But the television is no longer of interest to her - she's now much more interested in dog toys and what our resident dogs are doing. She was also puzzled by the sound of the lawn mower and preferred to go inside the first time we mowed the yard.

Now she's doing just fine. She does react to sudden, loud noises with a bit of fear and it's because of this that I feel she needs either a physical fence or some other way to keep her safe, such as being on leash or a tie out.

Rou Rou has excellent house manners - no accidents and she's not destroyed a thing. She is currently sleeping in her kennel and we kennel her when we leave the house.

We've noticed that if she gets tired during the day, she goes into her kennel to take a nap, so tonight we're going to leave the door open on her kennel and see how that goes.

She's a fairly quiet dog although she quickly learned to bark at the deer, following the lead of our resident dogs. Right now, she howls when we leave the house. Due to this, no shared wall living. I think it's possible that will diminish once she learns that we come back. Right now, it's too soon to know how that will go.

Rou Rou is a sweetheart - a very easy dog to live with and a very easy dog to love. Because of her international travel, she's in quarantine right now but once that is over we'll be able to get her out in the community and see how she does with more people and new situations.

Her quarantine will be over in less than a week and we're anxious to take her out and show her a bit of Iowa!
