Missy came to RAGOM with Otis 19-052 as a bonded pair; they must be adopted together. Missy is a sweet girl who gets along beautifully with everyone she has met, including other dogs, cats, and people. However, she would prefer older children (13+) in her home. Missy is working on losing weight and is being treated for hypothyroidism. Her family will need to commit to helping her to achieve her weight loss goal, monitor her thyroid level, and continue her medications and joint supplements.

Missy has been adopted!

Sunday, September 8, 2019

Missy and Otis 19-052 are a bonded pair of senior Goldens. They came into RAGOM’s care after their world was turned upside down when their owner passed away and they were taken by animal control to a shelter in Iowa.

Missy loves people, dogs, and cats. She is a delightful girl with a goofy hairdo and a funny personality.

You can keep up to date on Missy and Otis’s adventures and antics @p_s.ragom.fosters on Instagram.

Missy been in foster care for 5 months. We have been working through medical issues for both Missy and Otis.

Missy came to us at 115 pounds, with lots of hair loss, large hygromas on both elbows, and untreated hypothyroidism. She has transformed into a girl who now has a soft, beautiful coat where before there was none, and she has lost about 25 pounds so far.

What Missy needs in her forever home:

  • Her bonded partner, Otis 19-052
  • A home without many stairs
  • More carpet than slippery floors
  • A fence would be nice, but not necessary
  • Children over 13 years of age due to her senior status
  • An abundance of stuffies and balls that she can carry outside and hoard to her heart’s content
  • A kitty is optional
  • Car/van rides as she loves going places with you (she uses a ramp to get into and out of our van)
  • Leisurely walks around the neighborhood or trails
  • Enjoyment and laughter from her silly habits and personality quirks
  • Nice, soft, cushy beds so she does not rest on the hard floor
  • Commitment to her continued health care which includes:
  1. 0.6 mg Thyro-Tab 2X/day ($13.00/month at Costco) (https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/hypothyroidism-in-dogs)
  2. 50 mg Truprofen Chewable 2X/day ($32.00 for 2months at Costco)
  3. Joint supplement each day - we use Dasaquin with MSM chewable ($76.99 for 150 chews at Amazon)
  4. Continued weight loss with diet and exercise
  5. Continued care of her hygromas by wearing shirts or some type of elbow protectors/padding (https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/hygroma-in-dogs)
  6. Blood tests every 6 months to check her thyroid level

And most importantly, give Missy and Otis the best senior life and love a Golden could ask for!
