For Misty 11-085, a wonderful dog who deserves the very best!  For Misty, a wonderful dog who deserves the very best!

Oh where, Oh where, can my doggie be ..... Oh where, Oh where, can she be She's right here.  Let me introduce you to Misty.  Misty is a beautiful Golden Retriever/Lab mix, she is 5 years old, housetrained, crate trained, loves kids, good with cats (says in her paperwork) and good with dogs.  Misty met our girls with only a few grumbles from our PepperAnne (who is Miss Queen).  Misty LOVES being with her people.  She will be your personal lap dog if you want her to be but will also lay on her dog bed.  Misty will lay her head on my lap while I'm working on the computer.  She would love to lay in bed with us but we prefer our fosters sleep on their dog bed.  We were putting Misty in her kennel during the night but she has progressed to sleeping in our room with only a baby gate.  We like to use a kennel in our bedroom at first until we get to know our foster.  Misty is doing great about sleeping on her dog bed, but if you want a snuggle bug on your bed she will gladly help you out.  Misty is a big talker too .... lots of Helloooooos when you get up in the morning or come home (very funny)!! Misty came into our home with no manners but she wants to please, so she is quick to learn.  At first, Misty would constantly jump on us, however, after only one week of training her jumping is now very rare.  She still needs to be reminded with a "NO" when you read her body language, but that's all it takes.  We were told Misty was a counter surfer, but she has not done this in our home at all.  We have even tempted her with food on the counter and she has never jumped, she may put her nose in the air to smell but no jumping.  Misty has now learned to sit on command and we have been working on "stay".  Misty will "sit" and "stay" for her food and waits until we say "eat" before she starts.  This is what we ask of our girls and Misty was good about learning this too.  On Misty's first walk we used the gentle leader mainly because she is a big girl and rather strong.  Misty didn't really enjoy her first walk but since then I can walk all three girls alone with no problems.  Misty doesn't bark or pull if she sees another dog on our walks.  My son gave Misty a bath and even though she didn't exactly jump in, once in the bath she did fine.  Since her bath you can see more of her Golden side.  Misty has wavy hair down her back and is starting to show her leg feathering and her tail hair is growing out.  Misty came to us very, very thin.  She had a parasite which caused her to lose a lot of weight.  The parasite is now gone and with good, nutritious food she is starting to fill out.  Misty visited the vet yesterday and she weighs in at 65.5 pounds but will probably be 70-75 once she fills out.  All her other tests came back negative (even worms) - YIPPEE.  Misty is now up-to-date with all her shots and is Heartworm and Lyme's negative. As you can see by the picture, Misty loves to watch outside.  She will gladly keep in eye on these squirrels and bunnies in your yard.  We were told Misty would jump a 4' fence, so we were a little concerned because our fence is 4 feet.  We kept a leash on Misty for the first few days, just in case.  As you can see, Misty liked carrying it around.  We are very happy to report Misty does not jump our fence, she has never even tried.  We don't leave our girls outside alone though even in the fenced yard. Okay - what we think Misty would really like in her forever home is to be the only girl and get all the loving she deserves.  Misty wouldn't mind having another dog friend because she loves to play but really needs one of equal size.  She would like someone who is willing to take her to obedience training, she wants to learn.  Misty would love a walking partner, she enjoys her daily walks.  Even though she is a big girl she doesn't run all over the house or yard, so she would fit in any size place.  Misty may need to stay in her kennel during the day until she gets comfortable, but she has had no accidents when we are home or in her kennel.  Misty would be great with children, but she is big so she needs to be reminded to stay down.  Misty doesn't need a fenced yard, she is good on a tie-out too. If you think you would like to meet this wonderful girl, please contact your Placement Advisor.

Misty met a wonderful couple this past weekend and she has gone to her forever home! It was love at first sight for the F family. They stopped at the pet store on the way home and outfitted Misty with new matching collar and leash, a new cushy dog bed and plenty of new toys! She is a lucky girl. They will make sure she gets her nose time looking for critters! Happy day, Misty!

From Misty's new family:

Misty sure is a sweetheart :) She laid down in the backseat most of the car ride home. She would stand up and look out the window when the speed would slow down but then lay back down again. She definitely loved picking out some new toys at Petco. She charmed the employees there by carrying her leash in her mouth. They loved her so much, they gave her a couple treats out of those bins where you can buy them by the pound.

As promised, here are some pics of her.. we have taken about 70 so far (not including the ones we took on our phones)! I have included ones from her car ride home, her checking out her new yard and of course enjoying a few of her new toys and her new bed :) She definitely likes to know where we are at all times, and is constantly wagging her tail... happy dog!

Well, Misty has been with us for a week now and has settled in like she's always lived here. She is just a lovely girl and a lover. I have a physical fence and Misty has made no attempts to jump it. If she looks too interested in the bunnies on the other side I just call her away. She has excellent recall!! She does chase the birds and bunnies out of the yard right along with my resident girl Scout--so far they haven't caught any. In fact, she and my boy Skye slipped out the gate but Misty came back from across street immediately when I called her even though Skye stayed to explore a bit more.

Misty is a very smart girl and very trainable. She has great manners except that she was jumping up when she first got here. She quickly learned that she gets NO attention for that and it has stopped. Misty is calm in the house and does her running around outside. She is very lean and I assume that is because she is very active in chasing critters. She uses her nose more than most dogs to search for critter trails. She waits to be invited to sleep on the bed and is OK if the invitation doesn't come.

Misty is one of those vocal dogs. Not barking but whining and talking when she is excited. This is not a bad thing and if I ignore her she settles it down. A couple of times she has started barking at a bunny outside the fence or someone at the window. I have called her away and put her away when this happened so she knows it isn't OK. She figured that out! It hasn't happened for days now.

This past holiday weekend, we had many visitors and it was like a dog park in the backyard. Misty had a blast! She is very athletic--see the pics of her jumping to catch a treat! Misty will defend herself if a dog wants to scuffle. This happened a couple of times with some of the 6 dogs she met over the weekend. They were the loud, slobbery fights with no damage done except a nose scratch on the tender nose of one dog. Misty gets along great with my 3 resident dogs. She tried guarding the couch once by growling and so she lost the privilege. She hasn't growled in any other context.

I think Misty would do great in any active home. She needs to be able to run and would be best if she had some critters to search for :) She'd love to guard your yard from squirrels. If you have a 4 foot fence, she will need some consistency in training the first few weeks so that she learns she isn't supposed to jump over to go after that rabbit. I think she could be trained to an invisible fence too. She learns quickly so a few weeks of learning what is expected in her new home and she will be a perfect dog! Misty is great with other dogs but would be fine as an 'only' too. She loves to wrestle and play chase with other dogs.

Misty needs:

  • consistent training till she learns what is expected of her in your home
  • older kids OK
  • dog or no dog is OK
  • snuggles every day
  • the chance to run off leash in a safe place

Please let your placement advisor know if you'd like to meet Misty.

Misty is doing so good in her foster home, especially for a girl who spent most of her 5 years in an outside kennel.  The basic training is going well, she has mastered sit, stay, out and come.  Misty came in as a jumper so we have worked a lot on down, as in feet down, and she is doing so much better.  If the weather would cooperate she would love to go on a daily walk, however, foster mom is a wimp.  Misty came in very thin but with some good food she has really started to fill out and it has helped with her overall appearance too.  Although Misty is not a purebred Golden, you can start to see she has some Golden in her background.  Our vet chuckled when she came in saying .... from her head forward she looks Lab, and, from her neck back she is looking more Golden.

Misty's personality has really changed since she first got here, which is pretty common.  When she first arrived she was all legs and mouth .... now, she is calmer, quiet (unless our girls get started) and really enjoying living in a house.  As you can see by the picture, Misty likes to help foster mom when I'm working on the my laptop.

We're not really sure how much dog interaction Misty has had in the past, but after a couple days of being with our girls she has become far more relaxed.  I think she would do well at the RAGOM events and would probably really enjoy herself.  We have found she is more follower than leader - if our girls bark then she will bark, if our girls race around then she will race around, if our girls are quiet then she is quiet too.

Misty would love someone to snuggle with, she likes to share the couch with me.

If you're looking for a dog who will give you back 200% love, then Misty is the girl for you.  She will be a great companion, great walking or running partner, and an all-around sweetheart, give your Placement Advisor a call and RAGOM will make it happen.
