We are happy to report that Misty was officially adopted!

She will spend her days going for walks, chewing on rawhides, playing with her fur-brother, getting lots of love, and enjoying life!

A happy ending for a very happy girl.

Foster mom is very sorry for the extended delay in providing updates on Misty.

The time flies here and Misty seems to take all of her new experiences in stride. She is a very happy, playful girl who enjoys playing tug, wrestling, cuddling and destroying toys!

She loves to chew and that hasn’t changed! She also is a hoarder. Her favorite spot during the day is right under my desk by my feet. Once in a while I’ll look down and find treasures that she is stockpiling. I’ve found my shoes, pants, weights, slippers, barbies, a loaf of bread (sealed in the bag- and she wasn’t eating it), books, and a doughnut (again, not eating it, just collecting it with her “stash”)!

Whenever I’m missing something I know where to look!

Every night she rests her head next to mine on my pillow. She eventually moves to the foot of the bed but she starts next to me. She also loves having her tummy rubbed.

I regret that she has picked up on foster brother’s bad habit of counter surfing. Both of the dogs have put on a few extra pounds this winter that they will shed in the spring and summer. Misty loves to walk and run so hopefully some nice days and exercise will help!

This girl is a joy. She needs a house full of love, exercise, positive energy, and a place where she can relax. She thrives on lots of attention.

Misty has been busy, and we've learned a lot about her in past few weeks. First, she is full of energy and LOVES to play! She's playful as soon as she wakes up in the morning until after we've gone to bed. She'll play with Harry, with tennis balls by herself, with her foster dad and her human foster brother.

She likes to pounce if she sees something moving under the covers, and playfully nips and nudges until someone will pet or play. It has been fun to see her turn into a very energetic and playful dog.

Misty runs! I knew she liked walks, but decided to try running with her one day to see how she did. She did very well! She was easier to manage running than walking and seemed to know what to do. She didn't prance, though. I think we were going too fast!

Misty chews on everything. My kids have learned a valuable lesson to pick up everything off he floor; otherwise, it will end up in the jaws of the shark! Both Misty and our resident dog, Harry, will chew anything.

We've lost shoes, books, figurines, and many stuffed animals to this pup. I can't keep up with the dog toys or rawhides. They both just keep going! Toys last about a day, and sometimes not even that long.

Misty is potty trained! I still put her in the kennel if I'm going to be gone for a couple of hours, but I've been able to run to the store or leave the house for short times without any problems.

Believe it or not, there was a time when I couldn't go out and talk with a neighbor for ten minutes or I'd come in to an accident. She seems to have that down now! I'm so glad. She knows that we go outside right away in the morning and every time I say "potty," she goes right out and does her business. This was a game changer for sure.

She is very comfortable with people. She will greet everyone who comes in the door and enjoys affection from humans. We adore this dog. She is quirky, fun, and sweet.

Misty's perfect home will be:

  • A family who is around more often than not. Someone working from home, retired, working part-time or not at all, who doesn't leave her too often or for long periods of time would be best.
  • A fenced yard where she can run and play freely.
  • Another confident dog to continue teaching her how to live the good life and who will play with her.
  • Kids must be older than 10 and dog-savvy. Misty still gets nervous when someone startles her, runs up to her too quickly, or is very loud right in front of her. She also has a special place under my desk where she doesn't like to be bothered. I would worry about young children getting in her space or startling her with their rambunctiousness. She would be fine with older children who respect her space and can read her signs, such as a growl when she wants to be left alone.
  • People who want a young and playful dog!

Thanks for reading about Misty! We enjoy having her here!

It's been a while since I've provided an update on Misty. That is probably because she has been a busy girl!

Our little Misty is a bit of a celebrity in these parts! She was on Kare11 news earlier this month promoting RAGOM's annual event, Goldzilla. She was very polite to all of the dogs and people she met there. She also had the opportunity to stay with another RAGOM volunteer who brought her to a puppy party where she met several golden retrievers and got along great!

Misty pranced her way through the foster parade at Goldzilla a few weeks ago and met many people and dogs and she absolutely loved it!

I'm happy to report that Misty is becoming very comfortable here and has quite the playful side. I have witnessed her playfully chasing other dogs just like part of the pack, playing tug and playfully stealing toys from her foster brother.  She is one happy girl!

In her forever home Misty will need a strong resident dog, a fenced yard, no kids or kids over 10 years old, and an environment where someone is home with her most of the time.

Misty does not have free roam of the house when we aren't here, so she has to be kenneled. She is used to being in the kennel for an hour or two at a time but not longer. She may eventually be trusted when we leave but not at this time.

This girl is a joy! I am absolutely amazed at the progress she's made since she came to us. She is an entirely different dog! She is silly, sweet, playful, loving, and all around a joy to have in our home!

Foster mom apologizes for not sending an update sooner. We've been busy!

Misty is doing great. Every morning she wakes up so excited that she smiles and jumps around wanting to play with us. She is a very happy girl.

Since our last post we've discovered that she loves to go on walks. She doesn't just walk, she prances. It is adorable to watch and something fun that she likes to do.

She and fur-foster brother, Harry, get along but they don't play a lot together. Misty is learning to play and I suspect it won't be long before they are running around after each other. They seem to like the same toys so they try to snatch toys from each other when the other isn't looking!

She still goes in the kennel when we leave the house. Foster mom works from home so she is only in the kennel for an hour or two at a time. During the day she can roam the house but she doesn't. Typically you'll find Misty under my desk by my feet.

Misty had an adventure by going to visit another RAGOM foster for a couple of days last week. All reports are that she was a sweet, loving girl, who got along with all the other dogs and played with them! She adjusted well to a new environment and had a wonderful time relaxing on the porch with the other dogs while watching Pat work in the yard.

This girl is a gem.

Meet Misty! She is a 2-year old golden retriever looking for her forever home to live out a golden life!

Misty came to live with us about two weeks ago. She was a former commercial breeder mom and was fearful of all the new things she experienced in such a short time.  It is safe to say her life has been turned upside down!

When she first arrived she was so scared she wouldn't even look at us, but soon she noticed her fur-foster brother Harry and followed his lead. It didn't take long before she was doing whatever he did like going up and down stairs, jumping up on the couch, and chewing rawhides. She is getting more and more confident

One day she saw Harry playing with a stuffed toy, really going at it with his mouth, thrashing it all around. A moment later she picked up a stuffed toy by the corner and walked with it a bit. She didn't play with it, just carried it around for a bit. It was as if she thought, "Well, I saw him do it, so that must be the thing to do". It was very cute.

She latched on to foster dad right away! You'll see from the pictures that she picked him as her person.

We're still getting to know her, but we've been delighted with how she's developed with us so far.

More to come soon from Misty!
