Moca 06-058

Profile

3/7/06: Moca is a big boy, about 5 years old, with a very nice temperament. He seems to get along just fine with our resident Golden and I am sure they will eventually become best of friends. I gave Moca a bath on Sunday evening. He wasn't too excited about getting into the tub but once he got in the tub he seemed to enjoy the bath and didn't try to jump out. While bathing him I discovered several large hair mats on his rear end under his tail, which we proceeded to cut off Monday morning after his coat was thoroughly dry. He wasn't exactly happy about having the hair mats removed but seemed a lot happier after they were gone. I had to hand feed him when we got him on Saturday but his appetite has improved daily. He has the run of the house when we are home. He likes to run around and investigate his new foster home. He hasn't had any accidents in our home and he always takes care of his business in our fenced in back yard. He sleeps in his crate at night and if both of us have to be gone for a while he is crated. After we get to know him better I am sure he will probably sleep in our bedroom.

We took him to the vet yesterday afternoon for a wellness check. I knew he needed to be treated for tape worms as I noticed them in his stools on several occasions. So he received an injection for that and will get a follow up injection in three weeks. Other than that Moca had the usual vaccinations, Heartworm test, and appears to be in good health. He weighed 85 pounds.

Moca has been used to running loose so will need to go to a forever home with a fenced in yard and due to his size, he will probably be best suited to a home without real small children. Other than that, he is going to make some forever family very happy indeed.

Moca had his first real long walk today and did great. He occasionally would try to sneak behind me and try to get on my right side, but for the majority of the walk he remained in the heel position on my left. He did very little forging and seemed happy to just be walking at my side. He is coming upstairs more and has started sleeping in our bedroom at night. We still leave the door open on his crate and he occasionally goes in it on his own to take a nap or rest. He seems to be getting more playful with our resident Golden each day. He also enjoys riding in the Suburban and looking out the windows but will just lie down if he gets tired of sitting. I also clipped his nails this week which probably isn't Moca's favorite pasttime but with a little encouragement everything went just fine. Moca is a very good watch dog also. If he hears a strange noise in the night he will let out a bark and then go and investigate the strange noise. Moca is going to make some future, forever family very happy indeed.

Not much new to report on Moca. He is a very tall Golden Retriever and is still adjusting to his new foster home. He doesn't seem to romp around with Hank as much as some of our other foster dogs have. Moca is more on the reserved side. He rarely barks but on occasion, if he hears a strange noise he will bark. He always greets me at the door after I have been gone awhile. He has a very short tail. I don't know what happened to his tail as he was rescued from Animal Control and he doesn't have any records. Moca has run of the house when we are home and hasn't bothered anything. He prefers to stay in the kitchen and dining room area but has complete access to all of the house. Occasionally he will come upstairs but doesn't usually stay too long. Moca has a very nice personality and loves to be petted. Moca needs to go to a forever family where he will receive lots of attention and TLC.
