Molly 12-073

Profile

Hi!  We are excited to introduce Molly 12-073.

She initially was very hot indoors, likely due to being an outdoor-only dog, but has adapted to living inside and now seems to prefer being warm!  She had her first wrestling match yesterday with our resident Golden Retriever, and both seniors were wiped out after!

Molly has a tendency to attempt to steal table food, and while she isn't agressive about it, she is persistant.  She also is learning that soft toys are fun, but the ball still confuses her.  She's terrifed of our 4 stairs (inside) that lead to our fenced-in yard, but if I take her around the other way and she does just fine.  We're working on getting her more comfortable using the back door.

She had one accident this morning, her first since she arrived. Likely she isn't housetrained, so we've been getting up with her in the night and taking her out.

Molly is not leash trained, but does better than expected on walks.  She's very excitable and has a lot of energy for her age, but is a very loving, gentle girl.  She needs lots of attention, so that's what we're giving her.

Molly has vet and grooming appointments this week, so I'll have more information on her overall health on Friday.  We love her - she's a perfect family dog!

It is with a happy heart that I report that Molly went to her forever home last night.  She will be very loved and will spend the rest of her Golden years with the S family.  One last photo of her with resident Rudy, and foster Emerald 12-107 (Molly is the pretty red head in the middle).

Hi everyone, it's me, Molly. Foster mom and foster dad are so impressed with my progress.  They giggle at me because I act like a puppy.  I might be nine years old, but I'm young at heart.  I love to chew soft toys, and sometimes, I steal my human foster brother's stuffed bear.  Foster mom and dad just gently take it away and replace it with my favorite stuffed duck. My foster brother, Rudy, thinks I'm pretty great.  He's nine, too, but he doesn't have as much energy as I do.  He plays chase and wrestle with me, but when he's had enough, he barks at me and tells me to stop.  I leave him alone for a rest, and then we're right back at it! FM said that my doctor called, and the results of my fecal test were negative.  She says that's good news, but I have no idea what she's talking about.  Speaking of poop, yesterday, I was mad at Foster Mom, so I pooped in the house right in front of her.  Foster mom was confused.  She had no idea why I was upset, because we played outside all morning.  But, I've forgiven her, so I'm back to doing my business outside.  She seems to like that.  I just want to make her happy.  I felt pretty bad about going potty inside.  At least she didn't yell at me.  She just looked at me and said, "Oh, Molly, let's go outside." Foster dad and mom keep squirting stuff in my ears.  I don't really like it, but I just put up with it.  They promise that it will make me feel better.  My doctor thinks my ears have been hurting me for a very long time.  I have even stopped scratching my ears!  It feels pretty good. Foster mom got me a dog bed and I love it, but what I really love the most is the couch and laps.  Foster brother Rudy gets a bit grouchy when I sit on his spot on the couch, but he just sighs and moves over.  Then we snuggle together.  I love him. Foster mom said that a very nice lady and man are coming to meet me on Saturday, because they might want to adopt me.  I'm so excited.  They know all about RAGOM and are experienced with lots of RAGOM volunteering, so I bet they can teach foster mom a few tricks.  And guess what?  Foster mom and dad are going to welcome Rory 08-547 as soon as they can find a ride for her.  I just know that I'll love to play with her, and my foster brothers will love her, too.  Especially my human foster brother - he is SO nice to us four-legged pals, and he's only four years old.  I'm older than he is, so I show him the ropes by letting him snuggle with me.  Hugs,
Molly

Molly had a date with the the vet this morning.  She had a complete wellness exam and is now up-to-date on vaccinations.  She received her micro chip and  had lots of tests done just to make sure she's healthy.  She passed all tests with flying colors (we don't have the results of the fecal exam back yet).  She has a severe ear infection in both ears, so we will give her ear drops twice a day for ten days, at which time, she will be re-checked to make sure the infection has cleared up.  Everyone at Animal Health Clinic in Fargo, ND oohed and ahhed over her, and she got lots of treats!  Molly weighs 71.5 pounds. Dr. Ness would like to see her lose 5-10 pounds, but wasn't overly concerned. She is also receiving de-worming medication just as a precaution, since she was on the farm for so many years.

Molly has very small two skin tags on her head.  Dr. Ness tested them both and they are completely benign, nothing to worry about.  Her fur covers them so they aren't even noticable.

Molly rode in the car like a pro and smiled at everyone she met this morning.  She's currently resting on her bed.  She's exhausted after such a big morning!

Molly went to her very first grooming appointment a few days ago. I'm told that she did wonderfully. She was very patient and gentle, and didn't seem to have any anxieties, according to our groomer/vet tech. When we picked her up, she pranced around like a princess, showing off her clean, fluffy coat. Her mats were gone and she had a beautiful trim.

Molly's dog bed arrived yesterday, and she really loves it. It's almost as though she feels like a queen when she plops herself down for a rest. When she's not playing, she's resting on it. This will be sent with her to her forever home.

Molly does not like loud noises, i.e., thunder, gun shots, fireworks, etc. No one has ever helped her with these anxieties, so if she gets skittish after hearing something scary to her, all it takes is some soothing words and a good petting session to get her back in her comfort zone. She's really an easy dog to have.

Also, Molly is a pro at going up and down all stairs now. We're really proud of her! It took some patience and no pressure, but now she's an expert. When you see her today, you would never know that she arrived just last Saturday, anxious and scared. She fits right into our home. She loves to play with our resident Golden, Rudy until they're both exhausted and need a rest. After a rest, they're right back at it.

Molly loves to be brushed; it's one of her favorite rituals that we do before bed.

She hasn't had an accident since the initial one, and that's WITHOUT going outside in the middle of the night. Way to go, Molly!

I had to re-schedule her vet appointment for Monday morning, and at that time, she will be given up-to-date vaccinations, micro-chipped and a wellness exam.

As I type this, Molly's head is resting in my lap. She will be the perfect dog for a family who wants to love a gentle Golden. She's great with other dogs and children, but would also be great in a home without either.

Molly is really settling in, and her awesome personality is beginning to shine!

Yesterday was a beautiful day in Moorhead, MN, so we all went outside for some quality play time.  Molly and Rudy wore each other out again wrestling and chasing. Even our four-year-old son took part in the fun and games. Molly is extremely gentle and seemed to really keep an eye out for our little guy.  It's clear she loves children.

We're also pleased to report that Molly has had two nights in a row with NO accidents!  Yay, Molly!  She shows signs of anxiousness when she needs to relieve herself, so we watch her closely, and then get her outside where she gets lots of praise and treats after she's finished doing her "business".  You can definitely tell that she's proud of herself.  She really aims to please, which brings me to her next accomplisment, the stairs.  After many times of watching our Rudy go up and down, she suddenly got brave and tackled them.  She's a pro at going down, a bit timid going up, but she's really progressing.  It just goes to show that you can teach an old dog new tricks!

We ordered a bed for Molly, but it hasn't arrived yet, so we put a soft, fleece blanket out for her.  She likes to carry it around, and when she's ready, she uses all four paws to bunch it up into a soft nest, and then promptly plops herself down in the middle.  Nothing but extreme comfort for this girl!

Molly surprises us every day with new learned behavior and personality traits.  She's even getting better on the leash.  A soft verbal reminder and gentle tug brings her right back in line.  This girl is super smart!
