Last night I received a call from one of my adoptive moms. She and her husband adopted Moses on August 1st. I had been reticent about it, as they lived on the 18th floor of a condo in downtown St. Paul. But all else fit about them. He went home with them and started to live his Golden life of long walks, and weekends at the lake....swimming under water :) They moved into a 3 bedroom townhouse and he loved it.
Sue called, not to ask me to babysit during the upcoming wedding at the end of October, but to tell me Moses had cancer - it came on very fast and there was no hope. We both cried and talked about how they only had him for 70 days and how much they loved him and I was worried about how her special needs brother would deal with it, as he loved Mo and Mo slept by him when they took him on weekends to the lake. We had kept in touch and no matter what Mo did or didn't do, he was so loved and their pain is so deep. I could only say that it was meant to be that he would spend his last days living such a wonderful life with a family that loved him so much.
Then we talked about how he used to have to greet me at the door with something....sock, shoe, sandal, toy...didn't matter. Just so happy to see you. And how he loved to sleep on the bed with his head on the pillow, or with head under something...bed, desk, pillow, you name it. His other favorite thing to do was gather all the toys and bring them to the family room and put them under the coffee table near him. He was one of the sweetest, most gentle, loving souls I've ever met and he had the best time of his life the short time he was with Cliff, Sue and Joe.
He crossed the Rainbow Bridge today.....and I know that as much as I'm bawling now, it can't compare with what his family is feeling. They waited a good 18 months after their last dog passed, and Sue said maybe someday down the line, when they are ready, they will come to RAGOM again. This is my first furr butt to have cross....since I started doing this in May....which seems like a hundred years ago. I know there's nothing anyone can do, but I feel so helpless, angry and sad....he deserved to enjoy his Golden Life so much longer....he had spent most of his time tied up.

Hi Joyce -
Cliff had just gotten me a new digital camera and I used it for the first time on Sunday. So I did get a few pictures of Moses. Hope you enjoy them. It's Tuesday evening and we just got back from the animal hospital. Moses is in heaven now, running and playing. I should say swimming and chasing tennis balls. Probably greeting everyone with something in his mouth. Moses is such a Good Boy! We are going to take his ashes and bury them at the lake at the top of hill were he liked to sit looking over that big swimming hole.
The short time that we had him he brought us so much joy. He would make us laugh. He loved to play tug-of-war, especially with Cliff - they were exausted when they were through. In the evening I would get his brush and he would come and plop right down with his belly up to be brushed. He loved his daily walks. He sure loved to smell and chase those darn squirrels on our walks. He could never catch one because he had me to drag behind him. And of course when he was at the lake, the squirrels would hide. Last weekend Cliff and Moses went up to the lake to close it down and of course he had to go swimming in the cold water. And always just before we would get in the car to come home, Moses had to go for one last dip. The backseat was always wet.
Joyce, I want to say thank you for letting us adopt Moses. We loved that Big Boy. He was wonderful and we will miss him dearly. Sorry I was ramblin' on, but there is just so much to say about that loveable guy Moses.
