Heeeeeerrrrrrrreeeeeeeessssssss Moses!!

Yes here I am, fresh off the farm, where I spent the first months of my life. Sadly I just couldn't catch on to the 'don't eat the equipment wires' and so decided I'd try out city life. Woot, it's working for me.

I use to sleep in a dog house in the barn, now I sleep in a huge crate at night. When I am in the house I am 'tethered' which I guess means I'm on a leash attached to my FM. Guess she's trying to figure out if I'm 'house trained'. Doubt it, never been in a house before:) But so far no accidents....whew!! I have been enjoying the wading pool, and I am totally awesome with resident Jax, the English cocker, and I met Wylie and we became fast buddies. I had been ignoring the cats, but today when the white one, Bailey, walked across the deck to go in the house I went for him, got him in my mouth and gave a shake. Boy was FM mad at me. But I did let go of Bailey. FM saw a bit of blood, but when she checked Bailey she couldn't find anything. Boy, guess if there were a dog house here I'd be in it:(

I really haven't felt like eating since I got here on Friday. A nice lady named Sue got me from my home and met my FM and handed me off. Thanks Sue, puppy kisses!! They both exclaimed how big I was, 81 lbs to be exact, and what a beautiful coat I have. AND a lot of it according to FM who gave me a bath and has been brushing me since. I'll eat when I'm ready, and it's not like I can't lose a couple pounds.

So I went to the vet on Friday and had my blood work done and since I was up-to-date on my shots etc I didn't need any of that done. However, I do have an ear infection in both ears and love when FM puts these drops in, feels sooooo good. I have a rash around my neck and on my belly, so am on cephalexin for 3 weeks and hopefully that will clear everything up. I'm good to go for the 'de-maning' on Monday, whatever that means. No heartworm, lymes etc. I am as healthy as I am handsome.

I love toys, any kind of toys, and bones and balls and sometimes a couple things I'm not suppose to love. So when my foster parents tell me NO, I try to listen, and then take the proper chewing article from them. I think I'm doing good for a first time living in a house and I'm 16 months old (I was born 2/23/10).

Oh, and for anyone questioning those 'highlights' in my coat, they are natural. I know hard to believe some one could be this blonde and have such great white highlights, but what can I say............I have a great build, legs Lance Armstrong would be jealous of and fur most Hollywood types pay big $$$ for.

So what am I looking for in my furever home, let me see.

  • I have used a radius type collar and never went beyond once trained, so underground fencing or regular fence would be good.
  • No little kids, I'm a big boy and still like to get up and show off my belly.
  • Someone that is active. None of this laying around for 12 hours a day. Running partner, walking partner, agility, something to keep me busy.
  • Patience to understand I'm still a puppy, a BIG PUPPY, and am learning the house rules.
  • Another dog would be totally awesome. I am respectful of the dogs I have met and considering I'm still a 'man', that's awesome my FM says.
  • I need obedience training so I can learn with new family. I want to be all I can be, but I need to be shown the way.

Wow, well, if you have any questions after my bio here, pease feel free to contact your placement advisor (if you are an approved app) and FM will be happy to chat with you.

Oops gotta go FM is coming with the brush........

Updates

Moses went home with his furever family last night. He was a bit confused about being in yet another new vehicle with strange people, but it soon will be normal for him. He will enjoy his new life of being any only 'kid', doggie play dates, jogging, hiking and camping. He will enjoy this 4th of July at a cabin surrounded by people who will love him and other dogs to play with. I will be anxious to hear how he liked the lake since he loves to 'dig' in the pool and water bowls.

I was happy to hear kenneled up nicely for his family last night, though sounds like he slept well, they heard every movement and noise this big guy made all night. He may need his own room:) He's already been out walking, jogging and meeting new people and smelling new smells. Life is GREAT for this big boy. Enjoy, MoMo.

Hugs from FM and Jax

Fm here. Moses has been with us for 9 days and he has learned sooooo much. He knows the following:

Potty outside
Sit
Come
Drop the ball
Trade (the item in his mouth for a treat)
Off
To kennel up on command
Retrieve the ball
How to make other dogs feel welcome, no fussing

You have to remember Mo was raised on a farm never having been in a house or vehicle. He has been an amazing foster. He had one accident, our fault (ok FD's fault cuz he was suppose to be watching him). An example on 'holding it' is we went to the DQ and Mo wanted out...badly. He wasn't wanting to settle down. When we got home I let him out and he immediately pooped!! What a good boy!! His recall has been amazing. He is learning to 'drop the ball', and trade as in when you bring me the hand towel from the bathroom, you can trade it for what ever food FM has in front of her:)

He has listened to our resident English Cocker, Jax, when being told to back off, leave him alone etc. The neighbor lab has been over and nary a snarl. He just loves everyone and every dog. I wish I could say he has adjusted to the cats, but that would be a NO!! But the cats have adjusted by coming to one of the other doors and being careful when in the house.

I must say I was surprised no one had contacted their placement advisor to learn more about Mo. But then I got help from Cindy, one of our placement advisors. She gave me the the app from Heaven. I spoke with Michelle via phone a couple times, and we agreed a meeting would be good. Michelle and Tim came up this morning and it was love right away. What's not to love about this easy going big guy:) They would have preferred to take him home today, but we do have our 24 hour waiting time, and since he needs obedience school, kenneling and exercise I wanted to be sure they had a chance to be sure they were ready. And they are. Michelle is off for the summer and will have a couple months to continue to work with Moses the Mighty. So at this time I must say: MOSES IS ADOPTION PENDING. Til tomorrow night when he goes to his new home. I am excited for Mo, Michelle and Tim. They all young and active and will enjoy many years of hiking, jogging, camping, the cabin etc. Life is good!!

Mo is one of thee most beautiful/handsome fosters I have had, he is a puppy at heart in this big body, but like all good puppies, he's learning.

Be sure to check out his adoption update.

Hi, FM here. Wanted to share a couple more pics of Mo(ses) with everyone, as well as things we have learned since we got him on Friday.

Moses cannot be around cats, as the day after Mo grabbed Bailey, I did find a puncture wound. I thought maybe he had gone after Bailey cuz Jax always does. But this morning when Mo was outside, Coulter, my friendliest cat, came up on the deck to come in and Mo went after him. Coulter escaped. Since Mo was never around cats on the farm I guess he doesn't know what else to do but go for 'em. I would say he has a high prey drive when it comes to cats and other small furry things that move.

Mo wasn't interested in food since he got here. He finally ate Sunday. He went to the vet on Monday for his neuter and did great. However, when they put his food in his kennel he shoved it back out through the bottom of the gate, not once but twice. I brought him home on Tuesday at noon and put his food in his crate and he finally went in and ate.

I am crating Mo in a Mastiff dog size crate and putting his food in there for him to understand the crate is a good place. Last night for the first time it only took me a couple times to get him to go in his crate 'willingly' LOL I praised and gave him his treat. The first 2 nights he cried and barked a bit, but I ignored him and he settled in. Last night all quiet.

Getting him to take his pills is another story. I have to put honey or peanut butter on his antibiotic and open his mouth and put them at the back of his mouth. Thankfully he takes the pain meds without a fuss.

We are working on the mouthing, no tolerance. He tries to get up on the couch by me, but only gets half way up then starts to chew on my blanket or one of the pillows. So he is made to get down and sit. Then invited to come up. He has to sit and wait before we go out and come in. He knows sit but just thinks he should chose the times he should do it.

He is doing well on potty training. I started out with a belly band, but he had 3 wet pads and he was on tether with me, so no idea when he pottied. So we took the belly band off and keep him tethered, watch him and take him out often. He has not messed in his crate.

This morning I was sitting at the kitchen table and heard him chewing on the floor next to me. Well, the toy basket was there so I assumed (you know what they say about that:) he was chewing on something appropriate. NOT. He was chewing on the end of the leg of the table. I don't mind as this table has seen many a puppy and dog chew in the exact same place. But I need to be more mindful so that he learns it's not acceptable.

We are trading appropriate toys for inappropriate items that we have over looked and he has gotten. He is doing very well with this. Lots of praise for good behaviour, a firm reprimand for mouthing. Keeping him tethered is getting a bit old, but it helps to control his actions. He loves the tennis balls, stuffed toys (to be de-stuffed), hooves, chew bones etc. He is a chewer plain and simple and has to be watched.

Mo is a big boy at 81 lbs and my vet said he could lose maybe a couple pounds, but really he is a healthy boy despite the ear infections and dry/red skin which is improving. Mo is learning so much: how to live in a house, ride in a van (he jumped right in when it was time to come home from the vet), not chew what he wants, no free feeding, but eating 2 times a day in his crate, how to sit, to come when called, trade things and of course potty training. He still likes to jump up and so no small children under at least 10. Living life 'free' to being confined with rules is all new for him. He is a challenge. He needs a family that can handle a big dog with no manners, be CONSISTENT in all you do with him, dog obedience is a must, and he can't be crated all day, ideally someone home for the summer to train him would be awesome, a fence would be best for him, but I think he'd learn underground fencing quickly. He would chew through a tie out, a chain is not acceptable. A tired dog is a happy and content dog, as it is with Mo.

I want Mo to find the right home and family, not only for him, but the family. I want who ever is interested in him to be aware he will be a challenge but is eager to please and learn. If you think this big beautiful boy would fit in your life style, please do let us know.
