Bert has met a wonderful family that is eagerly waiting for him to get better so that he can be neutered and subsequently adopted. Bert will be sharing a home with a cat so I'm glad that he does well with ours. Bert is on a different antibiotic now called Clindamycin. He will take it for the next 2 weeks in hopes of getting rid of his congestion. His first antibiotic, Clavamox, did not make him better. Please send your well wishes so that he can join his new family soon.Bert is way more energetic now. He has taken up wrestling and tug of war with our dog Emma. He is eating great and gained 4 pounds. His potty habits are normal and overall a very happy guy. He learned how to use the stairs! It's fun watching him learn a new skill. He enjoys playing fetch and will almost always return and release the ball. He will pick up a tennis ball with his mouth and drop it so that he can chase it. He is still very affectionate and follows us from room to room. Bert is a total sweetheart! He loves his toys and almost always has one in his mouth. He has strewn his toys all over the house and the yard. Good thing we find it adorable.More to come later.

Bert has been with us for a week now and is settling in nicely. He is not totally potty trained but we are working together on teaching him. He is a happy pupil and full of potential but needs training. He really likes to fetch and enjoys playing with dog toys and has a particular fondness for the toys that squeak. He likes to have a toy in his mouth. Bert is on an antibiotic. He has a cough, runny nose, and had a fever earlier in the week. He is slowly feeling better but he's not 100% yet. Bert's appetite is good and he wags his tail when he eats! It's so darling. He now eagerly (but gently) takes treats from us and it's nice to see that he trusting. If I sit on the floor with him, he comes right over to snuggle. Bert will not be available for adoption until he is neutered and his airways have cleared up. He can however, meet potential adoptors in anticipation of the day he will have his own family! I believe he will be okay in a home with or without another dog but he does enjoy the company of other dogs. My dogs still ignore him but he chooses to hang out with them in the back yard nonetheless. He crates just fine and keeps his crate clean while I'm at work. Bert prefers to be in our room at night, sleeping on the floor with our other dogs. So far, I have not crated him during these night time hours and have not had any accidents (really taking a chance here, I know). If you would like to meet this pup, please contact placement

Bert slept well last night after his busy day at the vet. He seems to enjoy his crate and goes in without any trouble. Bert enjoys toys as he is mouthy like puppies (and retrievers) are. He is getting along fine with the cat and is satisfied with just a sniff. He tries to play with our two resident dogs but they don't appreciate his bouncy ways and don't want to play with him yet. Bert had a chest x-ray yesterday for the heart murmur the vet detected. The good news is that Bert's heart is healthy but his airways in his lungs are inflamed and so we will be checking for the cause of that.
