Let me introduce a new RAGOM girl to all of her soon-to-be fans.  This girl has quite a story to tell but we will just fill you in on what we know right now.  Mya came from a breeder in SD.  Mya is almost 5 1/2 years old, as she was born in March 2004.  She arrived with Hanna 09-318 and Misty 09-322 and several other dogs.

Mya has been to the vet and is up to date on her vaccinations.  She weighs in at 63 pounds.  She has been micro-chipped.  She has had both a heartworm test and a fecal test but FD forgot to call the vet back today for those results.  We will get that in the next update.  So the only thing we have left to do is let this girl settle a bit and then take her in for a spay surgery.  Her days of raising litters of puppies are done and she can be a true golden.

In case you had not noticed by her pictures, Mya loves tennis balls.  This was written in bold letters on one of the intake documents and was also reaffirmed by her first FM, LeighAnn.  Thank you LeighAnn for all that you have done for Mya!

When she is ready for her forever home these are things Mya will need:

  • A fenced yard (she has checked every nook of my fence looking for any gaps).
  • Another dog to show her how to be a true golden and live the life she justly deserves.
  • Someone that is willing to work with her through obedience training to help her to gain more confidence and trust in her human parents. 

She has a few traits we need to work on, such as counter-surfing and pacing to and fro.  These should ease in the next few days as she gets more comfortable with her new environment.

Mya is responding to her name and seems to know the "come" command.  She doesn't really get the "down" command or "sit" command, yet but she will. Mya is going to make someone a very complete home and a GReat forever dog.  She has eaten her food with no hesitation and so far all her chores have been done outside.  Good girl Mya!  Stay tuned for more.

After many months Mya has struck gold and has now moved in with the H family of Lino Lakes.  Mya moved to her new home on March 31st just after her new family returned from a spring break trip.  She had five full days to adjust to her new home before they went back to their normal work and school schedules.  Mya has four humans to toss her a ball or two and a fur sister named Bella and two cats.  She may soon become a soccer player in their beautiful back yard.  Right behind their home is a very nice trail for walking/running.  The H family spends plenty of time at a cabin on a lake in northern MN.  With weekend trips to the lake with plenty of swimming followed up by even more games of fetch Mya will be in heaven on earth.  I could not have found a better match for this sweet girl. 

Congratulations Mya and the H family!  FD will see you and your new family at future RAGOM events like the annual picnic in September.

Sorry that it has been a few weeks since Mya's last update.  Attached are some new pictures of Mya.  One was taken at the Girl Scouts' Dog Wash in Lino Lakes. 

Can you believe it that Mya has been in foster care for over 7 months?  What is even worse is the fact that she has only met one family in those 7 months.  We have attended numerous events and have met many families several times over.  One of the biggest compliments we frequently get is "what a gentle girl she is".  Mya is a rescue dog from a breeder.  As such Mya is looking for a forever home that has the following: 

  • Another resident dog.  She really does follow the resident dogs here.
  • No small children or teen-aged and older.
  • A physical fence would be ideal but we have visited places without a fence and she is fine, especially if you are playing her favorite game of fetch.
  • Cats are okay.  She was tested and was curious but retreated when hissed at. 

Mya will soon be celebrating her 6th birthday in a week on March 11th.  She weighs a lean 59 pounds.  We recently were in to our dear friends at the Scott Lake Pet Clinic.  Mya was jumping for a ball and landed hard on her backside.  Dr. M. thought she had a bad sprain to her tail.  So she sent Mya home with a steroid to reduce the swelling and the pain.  I am happy to report that Mya has the wag back in her tail.  She was so sad to watch when her tail did not wag for several days. If you would like to know more about Mya, please contact your placement advisor for a personal meeting/date. XOXOMya

Mya came back on Thursday night.  It just was not the match we hoped it would be.  The family was super but just not the right fit for Mya. She settled right back as if she had not even been gone.  The weekend weather has been so much warmer so we managed a lot of extra play time outside.  Mya just loves to fetch anything.  Her Kong Wooba is falling apart at the seams from over use, not to mention tug of war fights with the resident dogs. Mya's future home based on what we now know should have: Another resident dogEither no children or age 13 and olderA physical fence would be ideal. Should you meet this criteria please let your placement agent know if you would like a personal meeting. XOXOMya

Mya hopes everyone enjoyed a nice holiday season!  I know this sweet girl really did even if the drive to grandmother's house took longer both getting there and returning from.  This was Mya's first visit to grandmother's house (no fence) and she did really well.  When we were outside and not busy shoveling snow (21 inches) Mya, Indy, Lauren and Dakota found time to play in the backyard.  Mya loved to chase after snow balls.  Since the snow was so deep the dogs really could not go far even if they tried.  Mya was always on a trailing leash. The way Mya reacted to a house full of relatives was amazing.  She actually approached many of my nephews and niece for rubs.  Of course she also wanted them to toss her one of her tennis balls too.  Because the dogs were ever so good Santa brought them each some nice tasty marrow bones as well as some new tennis balls and other treats.   This past weekend Mya and I visited another nice RAGOM volunteer, Karen, and her cat, Snickers.  We can say that Mya was curious about Snickers but was respective.  Mya got a little to close at one point and Snickers hissed at her and she quickly retreated.  Mya would have loved to have figured out how fast Snickers got from one level of the house to the other.  You see Snickers to crawl between the railings and go fom one level to another. Now that we are in the new year Mya would be thrilled to entertain a furever home.  It has been nearly 5 months since she came into the RAGOM family and to date we have not yet even met one family.  What Mya is looking for in her forever family is: Another resident dog since she has never lived without other dogs present.A family with children 8 and over.A physical fence would be ideal.Someone who likes to take walks and has a good throwing arm for her games of fetch.  She gives up the ball ever so gently. Mya will be 6 years old on March 11, 2010.  On our last vet visit she weighed in somewhere between 62 and 63 pounds. If you would like to meet Mya, please get in touch with your placement advisor.  If you don't act soon FD may just become a 3 time foster failure. XOXOMya

Mya is busy getting ready for the upcoming holidays. She was at last weekend's adoption event at the Wayzata Bay Center and posed for a few pictures with her pal Lauren. Mya is the lighter of the two and Lauren is the dark red girl. Thanks Mari for taking the pictures!

Mya met quite a few nice people and dogs at the event. She enjoyed getting lots of pets, scritches and tummy rubs. Oh, and a few nice treats as well :-)

On top of Mya's wish list is a furrever home that has:

  • Another resident dog
  • Older dog savvy children (7-8 years and up)
  • A physical fence if possible

    • Mya is a fun loving girl who will be 6 years old in March 2010. She is on the smaller side at 62 pounds. And her coat is a little shorter than my two resident Golden Retrievers'. Mya loves to play fetch (tennis ball, woobie, etc.). She loves water and is a great swimmer too but you will have to wait until spring to experience this.

    Mya hopes that all of her fans enjoyed the great November weather from this past weekend.  Mya is resting soundly on the floor at my feet as I write this update.  What can I say about this super sweet gentle girl that I have not already written?  She loves to go for walks, play ball, and fetch almost anything you throw for her.  She has also gotten much better around the new foster, Stormy 09-418.  This past weekend each time that we were out on our walks we were stopped several times by neighbors and even people driving by in their cars.  The best compliment we keep hearing is what beautiful and well behaved dogs I have.  I guess we are quite a sight to see when FD walks 4 dogs at once.

    Mya does love attention but is not annoying about it.  But once in a while she will push her nose under neath your elbow to signal that either she wants a head rub or for you to throw her ball/toy.  She walks great using a Gentle Leader and only pulls when she sees a squirrel or a rabbit.  I remind her we are walking and not hunting and she resumes her normal walk position very quickly. 

    Mya is great with other dogs.  She has done well with my nephews and niece.  We have not tested Mya around cats.

    Sorry for the long delay in getting a new update in - bad FD.  Mya and the pack had a GReat time up at the lake.  You could say it was "dog heaven" with lots of ball playing and swimming.  Mya is a champion at both playing ball and swimming.  I had barely finished unpacking the truck and Mya and her fur sisters had already been swimming.  And on the day we left, I tried so hard to keep Mya and her sisters out of the lake and dry so that I wouldn't have to smell wet dog for four plus hours home...so much for that plan.
    Mya has really blossomed into a fun loving girl.  She now will push her head into your lap or under your elbows to get some attention.  And once you look into her big brown eyes, how can you not just love this girl?  She will frequently bring you a ball or one of her other favorite toys for you to toss of course.  She shares and plays well with her fur sisters and brothers.
    Mya will need in her forever home:

    • Another resident dog.
    • Children aged 7-8 and older.  Mya startles easily by loud noises and sudden movements.
    • Someone who will take her to obedience training to hone her skills.  She is a quick learner and likes to please.
    • A physical fence would be an added bonus.  She and her fur brother did manage to catch a chipmunk at the lake.

    Mya wanted me to let all of her fans know that her spay surgery went well.  She is at home again, resting very comfortably on the big pet bed.  And she is sporting a pretty pink bandage on her tummy (this will come off on Thursday). If you would like to meet Mya in person, she will be at the Lakeville Chuck & Don's store on Saturday September 12th.  By then, she will have had time to recuperate from the spay surgery.  See you soon. XOXOMya

    Mya says a big hello to all of the many RAGOM fans!  We have many things to tell you about Mya.  Just look at her in the new pictures - she had so much fun.  Two major things I can tell you about Mya:

    1.  She loves to retrieve a tennis ball(s); and
    2.  She LOVES water. 

    Mya can get two tennis balls in her mouth at once.  Mya and her sisters and brother and FD spent all of last week at a cabin near Itasca State Park.  When Mya was not chasing after the tennis ball she was likely in the water either swimming or just cooling off.  Near the end of the week, she started to notice the many chipmunks (red squirrels) and she did do some chasing.  I would say that Mya does have a high prey drive.

    Now that we are back home, we ventured on our first walk through the neighborhood.  Mya did try to wiggle out of her Gentle Leader but gave up after a few blocks.  She did a lot of weaving to and fro.  But after lots of praise for being a good girl she started to follow her sisters (Lauren 08-498 and Indy 07-253).  She pulled only when she was startled by cars or bikes or when she saw a squirrel nearby.  Today was her first full day at home and not crated while FD was at work and we are very happy to report no potty issues at all.  

    Mya had good news from her first vet visit with negative results for both her heart-worm and fecal tests.  This week she will undergo her spay surgery and she will no longer have to raise anymore puppies. 

    Mya is 5.5 years old.  She would do best in a home with another dog to be her guide and role model.  Also, she would do better with older (8 and over) dog savy kids as she is spooked by fast and loud noises.  She would benefit greatly from a family that is willing to take her to obedience training.

    So don't wait too long to contact your placement advisor or you will miss out on this energetic girl.
