Neko (Jeeter 06-553)

Profile

12/21/06: Jeeter is about nine months old. She is being fostered in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She is a sweet fluffy Golden girl who just wants to please. Jeeter is a typical early adolescent. She has energy and the desire to explore everything, but she is also learning new things very quickly.

Yesterday, we practiced walking on the leash with a Gentle Leader and she did awesome. She also seemed a little afraid of cars, but she also seemed to want to chase them. I walked her by the church parking lot and she quickly lost interest when I showed her that she could just ignore the cars and keep walking. Jeeter is also getting to be a good sitter, and the more that she adjusts to her new environment the less she is jumping up.

Jeeter definitely has the Golden trait of loving to rip up toys to get the squeeky out. The ripping up seems to be restricted to toys because I noticed that she also likes to collect my things and hoard them by her crate. I finally found my wallet in a pile of Jeeter's toys and was able to buy my much needed cup of coffee before work. (Oh, she also ripped up a water bill I accidentally left on the kitchen table, but I did not want to pay it anyway.)

Jeeter has been left home alone with restricted access to the kitchen and basement. She has been home for four hours by herself (with her foster brother) and she does fine. She will make a wonderful companion. I have also tried her in a crate when I take her brother running and she seems to do OK.

Jeeter has a vet appointment on Wednesday to get spayed. I will update you with weight, etc. as it comes in.

By the way, the photos to not do Jeeter justice--she is a great dog!

Hi there - We'd like to put something in for our dog. Her name with Ragom was Jeeter 06-553, now we call her Neko.

Thanks!!

"Well, I've been with my forever family for almost 3 years now and I've been too busy to write any updates.  Until 3 months ago, I was the queen of the house. My parent's life revolved around taking me to the dog park, throwing me balls, and making sure I got enough swimming in.  Swimming is my very favorite thing to do.  I could fetch tennis balls in the water for hours on end if they let me.  I love to jump off the dock and have even learned how to climb up the swim ladder!!

This past spring I went camping in the boundary waters with my dad and his friend for a 6 days.  I loved running up and down the portages and made sure the group was always accounted for. My dad and I shared a tent and he didn't seem to mind that I was so muddy.  I certainly slept well, I'm not sure he could say the same.

Recently a new puppy, Gus,  joined our neighbor family and we've been having so much fun chasing each other and wrestling in the snow.  Now I spend lots of time watching out the window to see when he goes outside so I can get my dad to take me over to play.

3 months ago a new little human sister entered our world and things around the house have certainly changed.  Fortunately, I still get my daily belly rubs and mom and dad try to make sure I get my special attention too.  Even though she has changed our family, I'm still pretty lucky to know that I am so loved.

We had so much fun at the RAGOM picnic again this summer.  I always hear my mom and dad say how grateful they are for RAGOM and finding me! I like to think I'm pretty lucky for RAGOM and finding my forever family too!"

Jeeter's foster mom is having her floors refinished so Jeeter has come to stay at a different foster home for a few days. As an added bonus we got to see how she does with cats. The first night she totally ignored the cats and this morning she got swatted hard by one of the cats (for committing the cat sin of "existing"!). I don't think Jeeter would ever consider messing with a cat now, not that she did before! She is one of the sweetest dogs I have ever met and VERY soft. We are enjoying our few days with her. Anyone who gets to spend a lifetime with Jeeter will be very lucky indeed.
