Niko 06-204

Profile

5/7/06: I am proud to announce that Mr. Niko has made it to Apple Valley along with his 4 other brothers. Niko a little over 6 weeks old and will be ready to go to his forever home over Memorial Day weekend. However, he would LOVE to start meeting potential homes right away.

What we know about Niko is limited. We were told both parents are purebred Goldens, but the litter was unplanned and they don't want the puppies. Therefore, he was turned over to a shelter on Saturday afternoon, he was processed and then given to RAGOM since he is so young and needed a lot of love and a germ free environment to get him through the trauma of being taken away from mom so early. So RAGOM did not allow Niko or his brothers to stay any longer than they had to! The next stop would be to Aunt Steffanie?s house ? she was good enough to keep them Saturday night so my family could take a much needed night off from all dogs, we did not even bring the Newfoundland?s on our overnight excursion.

Of course by the time Sunday morning hit, Lindsey and I could hardly wait to get our hands on the furrbutt boys so we left the Rick?s (hubby and son) to do some more dirt bike riding and packing up the cabin. We met Aunt Steffanie and started home for the meet and great ? The Newf?s were wondering what I had done this time!

Now about Niko....he weighs about 6 pounds, is medium blonde in color and we have no idea about his personality yet. But I am sure you will get daily updates along with pictures, so you can get a better idea what Niko is all about. Niko has a bad case of worms and fleas, but that is being treated.

If you are at all interested in meeting this wonderful little boy and have been approved please send an email to placementatragom [dot] org. If you are not approved ? send in an application so we can get this little boy into your home in a couple of weeks.

Niko has switched to a new foster home now that he is 8 weeks old. In addition to 2 dogs, he is now living with cats. We picked him up last night and he had a big evening out with my in laws and their Cocker Spaniel. He loved running through their yard stalking the puffy white dandielion tops. After his big night he slept like a rock in bed with us last night (yes, we spoil our fosters). He is a great snuggler! We have had no accidents in the house; he is such a smart boy and will whine and head to the door when he needs to go out.

Only one new photo of this guy while sleeping because we're too busy playing with him and enjoying his company when he is awake!

Niko loves to play, give him a little space and he will find something to play with. He loves pestering his brothers when they are sleeping and he loves to find the hairballs on the floor to clean up. It’s a messy job but someone has to do it.

Niko is doing well and has learned how to cry at the sliding door and go to the hay to go potty; I think in the long run he will be a breeze to potty train at his new house. Niko started his antibiotics for the flea bites. He is doing so well and they amaze me each and every day.

Niko went to the vet yesterday and we found out he had three different types of worms that are very treatable - the meds were given and started to work last night. I think the next two days will be the most gross since they will pooh and cough them up.

Niko also got micro chipped and received his first set of vaccinations. He was such a good boy. One of the staff members at the vet fell in love with this little boy; she wanted to know if he always hugged. Yep he does, you hold him and his paws will go around your neck and he gives you a nice long hug and falls asleep. She thought his white stripe made him adorable and I have to agree. Niko was the second heaviest – he weighed in at 10.5 pounds! The vet feels they are close to 7 weeks and I am sure will be acting like it this weekend. So are you ready now to come for a visit? Gather your newspapers and contact placement!

Niko is doing well; he has a couple of white paws and a white strip down his face. He is so darn cute in his medium blonde fur suit. Niko is the one who will start something if everyone is sleeping – he will look around and decide who the easiest target is and go jump on them. Actually it is pretty funny unless it is 2 in the morning.

Niko’s favorite sleeping spot is in-between the small crate and the playpen wall or he would rather have a few paws and heads draped over him for security but usually we find him behind the crate or even in the crate when no one else is there.

Niko will be going to the vet tomorrow to get those worms taken care of and his first set of shots. Hope he won’t be too mad at me tomorrow night.
