Nora arrived at our house on Saturday. Thanks to new transporters Al & Erna, they did a great job on their first transport. Nora is a 6 yr old Lab & some golden. She has the look of a lab & the golden personality to match. The short hair of a lab but some feathering of a golden. Just a cute little dog.

Nora has a sad story. She was bought from a breeder when she was a puppy & lived 6 years with the same family. The first 4 years of her life was living indoors with 4 cats which she gets along great with. She also lived with another 3 yr old lab which is more mellow per the SO. Then the family had 1 child & Nora was too energetic for them and started to live outdoors from then on. Then the family had another child so now there are 2 children ages 1 & 3 and Nora just wants to be by her peoples. But she's too energetic so she spends her time outdoors & when the children go to bed Nora comes inside to spend time with the adults. Many dogs are raised with kids, they learn to grow up with them and do just fine. It takes time for everyone to adjust. Maybe Nora wouldn't be as energetic at 6 yrs old if she had spent more time around everyone. You just need to watch kids & dogs when they are together. So Nora is starved for attention right now.

This was a very hard surrender for the SO because she had Nora since she was a puppy. So lots of tears shed. I assured her Ragom & myself would find her a new forever home. So her life begins again Now living indoors for the rest of her life.

She arrived very nervous and panting as a lot of dogs do when they don't know what's going on and they are leaving the home that they have had their whole life. She was very much in need of a bath so my daughters & I proceeded to get the doggy pool out & the hose & give Nora a bath. We suds her 3 times and then thought that's enough for the first day . We didn't want to overdo it . She met the resident golden Timber (5 yr old ) female with no issues. The only thing Nora wanted was attention from humans. Yes she is a velco dog but when you're missing that attention that you need you become that way for awhile at least. She has settled down some. Still pants when she's nervous or when she sees the leash come out for a walk. Nora is housetrained and has a very good appetite. We have put her on a very good dog food which is very important for the health of a dog.

She did find the couch the first day but we firmly told her down and she did. She likes laying on the carpet & rugs in the house. Loves to follow you everywhere. I think her nickname should be Shadow!

Nora went to the vet on Sunday . She weighs 62 lbs a good weight for her. She's UTD on all shots and HW& Lymes negative. Yeah! We really worry about that living outdoors. Fecal is Negative also. She is having some trouble with her back left leg so the Vet is taking x-rays on Wednesday 9/14 to determine if surgery is needed for Nora. Please keep Nora in your thoughts. Otherwise she's a healthy dog. Loves swimming the SO said.

Loves walks. Doesn't have any interest in toys at this time. Maybe later as she becomes more used to our household. In the meantime Timber just continues to play with her toys & chases her balls. Timber is fine with sharing her humans with Nora. Nora has no interest in playing with Timber - she just wants the attention.

Nora just wants a family of her own & lots of attention to live out her life. She loves everyone. Will be fine with older kids because she gets so excited and likes to jump up. We are working on that. There's not a mean bone in her. Just a Lover! She may never be a running partner but she will be a loyal companion & a good walking partner & swimming partner. We will know more after her X-rays are taken on her leg if she needs surgery or not . There's no resource guarding, no storm anxieties . No problems with loud noises. We live by the airport & planes don't bother her.

So for now Nora's forever home should be:

  • A fenced yard
  • Lots of attention
  • Obedience classes
  • Would love a lake to swim in
  • She would love to be the only dog in the house so she doesn't have to share attention
  • Cats are just fine
  • Lots of walks

Her needs could change so we will keep you posted. If you would like to meet Nora let your placement person know.

We will update again after her X-rays are taken & Dr. R reviews them.

Nora will be at Goldzilla this Saturday 9/17 . So come out and see all the Ragom dogs.

Nora has come to work with me today to meet the residents for some extra attention. She is laying on the floor while I do my work. Very calmly I may add so I believe she settling down some.

Updates

Sunday, September 3, 2017

Nora has her very Happy Ending as you can see by pictures. She is with a very loving family who moved to Shoreview. They have a baby added to family recently and Nora gets along well with them all.

Thursday, September 27, 2012

Nora thanks her anonymous Goldzilla sponsor and include a picture of how nice she can be with cats. She is showing dogs take cat naps too. She also thanks all those people who keep watching her updates while she awaits her adoptive home.

Monday, September 24, 2012

I have now tried the ThunderShirt while going to store for separation anxiety in car and it does not work. It does work most of time for the storm anxiety.
Nora needs a home with adults and older children because she is so happy with people and would knock over toddlers or little ones.  She also needs a fence to keep her from roaming.  Nora is on Rimadyl-1 per day, 2-fish oil and 2 to 3 tablets of Glucosamine, Chrondrotin and MSM for leg that had surgery on since coming into RAGOM.

*She likes car rides and would probably jump in any ones car to go for a ride.*Nora is very food oriented, so if not watched could become a counter surfer if food left out.*Nora is fine with cats and other dogs.*Nora walks fine with gentle leader or harness.

Anyone that would like to sponsor Nora to help pay for meds or adopt her should contact RAGOM placement.

Sunday, August 12, 2012

Nora has now used the Thundershirt 4 times when thundering and lightening and has worked to calm her down. She needs it on before storm gets too bad and taken off when the storm is over. She actually laid down and went to sleep once the shirt was applied. They say it might not work for all dogs, but it sure did for her. I am sending a picture of how she looks with shirt on for all to see.

Nora also went to a lake and had a blast in the water. She has improved so much since her surgery. She loved jumping off the dock and retrieving a ball and have  pictures for you.

Nora shouldn't be around small children unless on a leash as she is such a lover, she wants to kiss everyone she sees and may knock a little on over. She loves to have attention and play ball and will play with another dog that plays mildly as she has arthritis in her back leg and will bother her if too much running. She is on meds in morning each day for her leg pain and arthritis.

Nora loves food or treats and takes no time at all to eat and will check out another dog dish if it's left unattended.

She gets along with cats in house, but does have a prey drive for chasing wild cats that run or squirrels. She does listen and comes when called but will wander off if no fenced yard. Nora also loves to roll in manure or anything smelly, so best to know where she is at or she will get lots of baths.

Nora is 7-8 years old and is waiting for that someone special to adopt her. Call placement if you have questions on Nora I will answer them through placement or set up an appointment to meet this lover.

Nora now has a Thundershirt to try out and has actually used it once now and it worked that time. It was thundering and lightening and Nora  got up and I put it on her and she laid down and went to sleep without any more problems. I am hoping this will work tonight on the 4th if she needs it. I will get a picture on next update.

Nora went to a church festival a weekend ago and did very well there without wanting to jump up and laid close to me. She even let some very young ones come to pet her. She would do better around older children and adults as she is a kisser and wants to kiss everyone and may knock younger unsupervised children down.

Nora was introduced to chickens and did very well even though she has a good prey drive. She would love to race out every morning to watch them come out. A picture shows her watching them included. Nora has also been introduced to sheep and once in a while she run up to fence to make them run, otherwise she leaves them alone. She gets along with cats unless wild ones that run away.

She also loves to swim and enjoyed the pool with her friend Cassie. Racquet balls are here preference when playing ball as they bounce a lot and are fun to chase. They also float in the pool.

Nora gets along with other dogs and once she knows them she enjoys playing with them.

Nora still takes her 1 1/2 Rimadyl along with 2 fish oil and 2 tablets of Glucosamine, Chrondrotin and MSM in the morning and been doing fine on them now. She hasn't had any problem running and playing.

She needs a fenced yard as will wander off if you don't watch her. She does come if you call her name unless on the trail of some prey. She loves to chase birds out of the yard.

If you are interested in Nora give placement a call.

Hurray and jump for joy as Nora has learned how to play ball and am including a picture. Started out with a corn cob as the only thing she would go after and then progressed to a racquetball as she doesn't like tennis balls. She just loves to go after it and brings it back too. Guess she likes it more because they bounce better than a tennis ball and also is smooth not fuzzy.

Also including a picture of her playing with her new playmate Cassie a PM dog we are fostering and Nora is very helpful in her training.

Last picture is of her after her bath which is taken in a shower stall with a sprayer. Nora needs a little help going into the stall, but once in the stall stands nice for her bath.

Found out Nora doesn't always react to storms all the time. May help to have another dog around that storms don't bother. Another thing that helps is if there is not a lot of lightening with the storm even though rumbles.
Nora should have another dog in the house when she is adopted out and a fenced yard as she will wander if she gets bored and another dog will keep her active playing.

She has anxiety when meeting people, so no small children. I have been taking her to the same place several times and each time she is more calm, so I would say new  things usually set her anxiety off more.
Nora does have a strong food drive and will take things from other dogs if she wants more or find things left on counters.

She is still on Rimadyl, but it is cut down to 1 pill in morning along with fish oil (2) and Chrodrotin,MSM and Glucosamine (3). We have removed all pills at second feeding and she is doing fine with just morning pills. She still gets some pumpkin mixed in food to curb hunger and she enjoys it.
Will continue to work on anxiety, so watch for more updates.

Nora was staying at the Johnson's home a couple days this week, so I could stay and help out with my new grandson and two year old granddaughter. Johnson's are  volunteers from RAGOM who stepped up to help to take Nora for this time and I am very grateful to them for helping me out. At the start of Nora's life at RAGOM, they took Nora to Vet for her leg surgery, so knew a little about her before sitting.

On arrival anyplace new, Nora is full of anxiety for a little while, so they took her for a walk to help her calm down. She did drink a lot of water that first day and they had to get up and let her out at night, but the next day worked so much better. They did take her for a ride to the store and noticed she likes to cry a lot when you leave to go into the store.

Nora has pictures with her new friend Dakota and is including them for you to see. One is Nora and Dakota anticipating treats and Nora even had her tongue out a little. I included one with Nora's Kong in which she enjoys small treats put inside. The last picture is of Nora in the backyard enjoying the snow at the Johnson's. Nora thanks the Johnson's for providing these pictures for you to see.

Nora has been enjoying meeting and playing with friends and using her healed leg to build muscle. Below are a couple pictures of her playing with her friends at her house. These are my brother's dogs he brought along when he came to split wood and came several weekends in a row. In the first it shows her with two friends and in the second she gives chase to the one she prefers to play and run after a lot. He is a one year old and she keeps right up with him. She also loves to rub up against the snow outside-when we have any, but no pictures turned out as furr butt is always in the air on them.

She still gets along with cats and if they get too close once in a while she gives them a growl to move away.

Still working on separation anxiety and having to use a tie down in car to keep her in one place. As weather gets warmer we will work more on leaving alone for short periods.

The sit and stay before getting her food dish has been working very well, so she loves to learn and very food oriented.

Thanks to all that are watching her progress.

I got a new camera for Christmas and decided to take a picture of Nora for all to see. Nora also wants to thank  Joan and Bogey for sponsoring her. Happy New Year Joan and Bogey, you're great!!

Saturday, December 3, 2011

Hi to all who are watching Nora's progress. Seems Nora picked up a cold and will have to wait a week to get x-rays on her leg at the vet as they would have to give her anesthesia. My vet checked Nora on Friday to make sure it isn't anything serious as she started on Monday sneezing a lot and told to wait a week or so and see what happens.

Nora was limping in the snow and cold, but I put on booties and that helped as leg still gets cold for now. See below for a picture of Nora outside with booties.

Nora has a strong separation anxiety, which we are working on for now. She is getting better waiting in car without whining and crying. She will hop in any car to go somewhere, but when you get there and let her out she has high anxiety (more like a excited child) for a while and then will calm down. In the house she will follow you around or lay where she can see you. Lately, with all baking she will go in livingroom and lay on couch and watch from there, so she is getting there. A lot of this we couldn't work on while her leg was healing so she didn't injure it.

She still doesn't play with toys, but have started treats in a Kong to get her to play around with it for treats and will progress to Kong ball which holds treats.

She gets along with cats, but with all dogs with prey drive she will chase if they run, but won't hurt them as I have three cats. She has also been exposed to other dogs both young and old and doesn't mind them. If they do something she doesn't like, she will give a growl warning to them.

Nora now has 1 1/2 tablet Rimadyl; 2 tablets Glucosamine,Chrondrotin,MSM; and 2 tablets fish oil a day for arthritis and leg healing. She takes them very easily with morning food.

Nora would need a fenced yard until she gets used to area or she would wander off and is hard to get as she doesn't  go after balls like most dogs. She will come if you call her name and loves attention and pets.

Nora is more of dog who likes to give kisses, and with anxieties would not do well with small children as may knock them over.  That is all for now as we are working on getting things in order for holidays. Want to help out Nora this season????  Sponsor or give gift offerings to RAGOM for her surgery and medicine to keep her healthy now.  Nora is one of those saved by RAGOM to live a healthy life.

Yahoo! Nora had her stitches out and her leg looks really good and attached is picture. She is doing better every day and if she had her way she would be running around but has to remain on leash for at least 8 weeks to build her leg back up slowly after not being used. I also noticed she has some storm anxiety when it lightning and thundered yesterday.

Tuesday, October 11, 2011

I included two pictures of Nora before surgery, one sleeping on my bed and the other shows her not putting weight on her bad leg before surgery.

Nora had surgery and is doing okay. We both slept downstairs on the couch and a mattress on the floor the first week in case of problems. It was very uncomfortable for her with leg wrap and laying only on one side. Going to bathroom was even harder and thanks to medication first week to help with all the pain. Included picture of leg wrap which matched color of her collar with hearts of love from clinic.

Leg wrap is off now and have e-collar to prevent licking of stitches you can see in photo. After putting it on for a while, Nora didn't like it and has been doing really good with just verbal commands to leave leg alone. She had been pulling stuffing out of the leg wrap, so asked for the e-collar.  Leg looks good now and starting to walk on it. We had pills filled on Friday, so have plenty for now.

Started the therapy for first time Sunday along with 5 minutes of walking. Nora at times gets really bouncy and I am glad Nora is on leash for control. Each day she puts weight more and more on the injured leg, so very critical to keep her under control so she will not injure bad leg again or even other leg by putting too much stress on it. The rehab of her leg will take up to 8 to 10 weeks as she needs to build up muscle she hasn't used to strengthen her leg. Nora also has moderate to severe arthritis in her leg which means she can't be overactive for a long period or will probably have trouble with the leg.

Nora is very grateful to all the helper's at the vet clinic and Dr. for doing such a wonderful job to get her leg back.
I will keep you updated on Nora's progress and anyone who like to sponsor Nora to help with expenses would be great for Nora.

Nora now has a new foster mom in Olivia, MN, who will see her through her surgery and rehab. I included a picture of this lovely lady with long slender legs and beautiful brown eyes. She arrived here on Sunday the 25th in the afternoon and a little nervous.

Monday Nora went for a ride to the vet to pick up pills she needed and get out a little. Nora seems to love car rides even though she will whimper a little once in a while. Nora doesn't put a lot of weight on her back leg that needs surgery, so will be glad when it is done.

Just received word that Nora will have Surgery on Monday Oct. 3. Keep her in your prayers for a good surgery and speedy recovery. If anyone would like to help with Nora's expenses, please contact RAGOM. Nora life is about to change to a life of running and playing again, thanks to RAGOM and all the wonderful people who support and help RAGOM.

Watch for updates to follow after surgery.

Thursday, September 15, 2011

Nora is doing well. She is enjoying the indoor life. We now have her x-rays done & she will need surgery. She has a torn  ACL on her left back leg.

Dr R will be doing her surgery in a couple weeks  & then rehab begins after that. Sweet Nora will be pain free soon and running around with out lifting her leg all the time. She has wormed her way into our hearts. I would like to tell all dog owners if your dog is experiencing pain any where please have it checked out and help them be pain free. Nora has had pain for quite some time, but the good thing is now she is a ragom dog and we will help her get better. Once a ragom dog always a ragom dog. She will always have a home .

Nora is learning the routine at our home & hanging out with Timber. Timber doesn't play with our foster dogs right away it usually takes her a week or two but by then the foster has been adopted so Nora must be special because Timber wants to play with her now and that's to bad because Nora can't play right now.

Nora is crated during the day so she can rest her leg. At night she is free roam and does just fine. She does come to my side of the bed just to make sure I'm still there in the middle of the night but then so does my  resident dog Timber so it doesn't bother me. They will keep me safe.

Nora has not had any accidents. She does like to be with her peoples & when they go she wants to go also. She's quick even hoping on 3 legs. The SO said she was nervous riding in the car but I have taken her for 3 rides in 5 days and she's just fine.

Nora needs your help, surgery is expensive so if you were ever thinking of sponsoring a Ragom Dog  please consider sponsoring Nora11-303.

Please keep Nora in your thoughts during her surgery & rehab time.

Nora will be moving to a new foster home that is home more to help her get thru her surgery & rehab and then she will be ready to look for her forever home. If you are interested in Nora let your placement advisor know and she can arrange a meeting with Nora. You will be getting 1 great dog. She will love you to pieces.

Her forever family should probably not be gone long periods of time is what I reccommend for Nora she just loves her people and she was deprived that the last few years  & she really likes having attention now.

She will now be fostered in LeSeur, Mn which is about 45 minutes from Mpls.

More to come on Nora from her new foster & her surgery.

I have attached a photo of Nora laying & she crosses her paws its so sweet.  Its like she saying pray for me. Please consider being a Sponsor for Nora......

Also there's a Pic of  resident dog Timber just sitting waiting for someone to throw the ball.

Love foster mom&dad& timber

Good luck sweet Nora we will be watching your updates from your surgery & rehab.
