November 07-400

Profile

Ragom fans and dog lovers who are viewing this please welcome November 07-400 (Plankinton's November Fire).  November's new life started on July 14, 2007 when she was surrendered by a breeder from South Dakota.  She went from South Dakota to a fine care center in Iowa.  She wants to give a special thanks to Lisa D. and the staff in Jewell, Iowa for her great care!  November was spayed at the clinic so her days of having litter after litter of puppies are over, yeah!

Some pertinent information about November:

Age:   6.5 yrs. She will be 7 in November, hence the name.Weight:  65 poundsColor:  Red/MahoganyCoat:  Lots of hair with great featheringPersonality:  Pure Sweetness!

November arrived from Iowa Friday night July 27 in Burnsville.  Thank you to Karen G. for driving down to Jewell and picking up November, Cayden 07-457, Connor 07-458, and Madelyn 07-461!  I got to help move Madelyn to Teresa's car and while doing so enjoyed a great puppy kiss.

November and I arrived home in Prior Lake a little before 8:00 PM.  Her welcoming committee was eagerly awaiting the arrival standing at the patio door.  While I let November do some exploring in her new back yard I quickly ran into the house to let the fur friends out too before the patio window was dismantled.  After about 10 minutes the welcoming committee of Indy (Jacinda 07-253) and cocker spaniel Shelby had to be taken in for a time out.  They were a little to overbearing for November.  November and I continued to walk and explore the back yard.  Then I grabbed a brush and combed quite a mass of hair from her coat.

November, Indy and foster dad enjoyed a nice walk this morning.  Giving me opportunity to write this update as they sleep at my feet.  November walks nicely with a gentle leader.  She does pause as cars go by and for loud noises and sudden quick moments towards her.  She will just need booster shots about the middle of August and maybe a visit to the spa for a "do" trim and touch up.

Updates

Tuesday, August 14, 2007

Foster dad is busy doing some chores tonight so with the help of my able assistant Indy (07-253) we thought we would write a quick note to tell you about all of our recent adventures.  Last Thursday night we had a visit with my former South Dakota mate Foxy 07-399 and his foster mom, Julie.  It was nice to see the two S.D. golden retrievers side by side.  Indy (07-253) is on the left, Foxy (07-399) is in the middle, and I, November (07-400) am on the right with foster Julie trying to make us all smile pretty.  You can see that both Foxy and I are a few inches shorter than Indy, foster dad tells me all the time that I am his little cute red girl.

Friday night through Sunday we were in the Itasca State Park area (south of Bemidji)  for a weekend at foster dad's family cabin.   Indy, Shelby and I had so much fun as we were entertained by foster dad's five nephews (ages of 4 through 12).  We got to go on a walk with the boys using our leashes and Gentle Leaders.  But we were also allowed to play with our neighbor dogs, a chocolate lab and a black lab/ German short hair.  We had so much fun and we were so well behaved on the long truck ride home.  Foster dad hardly knew we were riding along.

Now some notes from foster dad.  November would likely do well in a quieter environment with or without another resident dog.  My two youngest nephews were a little too loud and moved too quickly which did startle her but she found her safe zone which was as close to me as she could get.  Having said that much I think she would do better with children ages 7 or older.  It might be best to have either a fenced in yard or one with invisible fencing as she does show quite a strong interest in pursuing rabbits and squirrels.  We are still working on the potty training and have had only a few accidents so we are giving lots of praise and treats for doing those deeds outside.

If you are interested in a sweet, mellow, and very affectionate girl, then please let your placement representative know by contacting placementatragom [dot] org.

November has now been with me for over a full week!  She is such a sweet heart.  She attended the Metris Uptown Art Fair on Saturday afternoon and did get to meet lots of nice people, RAGOM volunteers, and RAGOM dogs too.

November is starting to play more outside with resident dog Indy.  As you can see by some of the newest photos, November can hold her own ground quite well.  She and Indy like to chase each other around the yard and then hide from the other in the raspberry bushes.

November has only had one accident in the house.  She goes into her kennel during the day while I leave and am at work.  I baby gate the other two resident dogs so she is not bothered by them having free run of the house.

She walks well on the Gentle Leader with the other two dogs in tow.  She has not shown much interest in any of the dog toys but on two occasions she has taken a tennis ball from Indy and then ran as fast as she could go.  It was fun to see her come out of her shell and start to play.

I think she would do well in a home that has the patience to help her learn how to be a dog.  She does like to stand up on occasion to greet you so it probably would be best to not be in a home with really small children.  She is still spooked by loud and sudden movement and noises.  She will lift her paws up to you for attention.  This girl loves to be brushed and rubbed.  So if you are at all interested in a truly sweet, mellow, and did I say gorgeous red lady, please let placementatragom [dot] org know.
