Onyx 11-209

Profile

Meet Onyx!  She is a 5 month old Golden Retriever/Black Lab mix.  Onyx was rescued from a neglectful situation in Iowa along with her sister and brother.

She had her first vet visit today and she weighed in at 21 pounds. She is thin for her age but in our household that's not an issue! She is being fed nutritious puppy food to make sure she gets the nutrients she needs. Onyx is now all up to date now on her vaccinations and is on medications to get rid of the flees she arrived with! Yucky! But other than that she is a perfectly healthy, playful puppy.

Onyx is a very energetic puppy. She is my daughter's little shadow and won't leave her side! She gets walked at least once a day, so she is a pro by now.  She stays right by me and drinks from a water bottle. Any time we sit down she wants to be in our laps cuddling and giving us kisses.  During the night she sleeps in a crate in our bedroom.  Not a sound comes from the crate when you put her inside for the night.  I don't believe she is housebroken, but has not had any accidents in the house yet.  We watch her very carefully and take her out often.  She also keeps her crate clean during the night.

Onyx does need obedience training. Around our other dogs she guards her toys and will take toys from the other dogs. Like many puppies, she jumps up on people and is just starting to bite.  With many toys around her though, she keeps busy biting those!  She will need her forever home to be committed to training her in the basic dog manners. We are currently working with her every day on walking, sitting, and not jumping up and she learns very well. While around our other two dogs she watches them and picks up on many things they do.

We are currently scheduling her an appointment to be spayed and then she will be available for adoption.

Well, Onyx has been with her forever family for over a week now and things are settling down.  She has gotten to know her furry sister and I think they are becoming fast friends.  Her 3 other sisters are loving her to death and she is so happy that the B family came into her life so she could have a forever place to rest her head and call home.  Thanks for adopting Onyx, we miss her little puppy kisses, but know that she will be forever happy :)

Well we have lots of stories from the 4th of July weekend.

First of all I traveled in the car over 3 hours and slept most of the way up north. I like being with my foster family. I am getting pretty spoiled and am really learning what it is like to be a real dog! We got to the cabin and my 2 furry foster sisters ran right to the lake and got in. They jumped from this big wooden dock. I wasn't really interested in doing that but they did put me down in the water and I am a great swimmer as you can see from the pictures my foster mom is including. I surprised them when I swam over to the ladder and I climbed out all by myself. WOW they were shocked. I am really talented. I got to run in the yard with my furry foster sisters and chase my favorite orange balls (I like stealing the balls from them). I also swam, and took lots of walks all weekend and I never once had an accident in my foster Grandma's cabin :) She was happy! I slept in the cabin in my kennel and didn't make a peep until they let me out. I met lots of people and liked everyone I saw. They all thought I was pretty cute. I am really looking forward to someone wanting to meet me. My foster family tells me everyday that I am such a sweetie and am the easiest dog to have around. I love to give kisses and I cuddle with them all the time (I even like to cuddle and take naps with my furry sisters). When they call my name I come running and leap in their arms to give lots of loving. I have gained lots of weight and am up to 25 lbs now. If you are interested in me I would love to meet you. Give your placement advisor a call today and I could be yours. Thanks for reading about my fun weekend :)

Just wanted to give you another update on Onyx.  She is doing great with her furry foster sisters.  We have pretty much decided who is boss by now.  This is Onyx taking a nap with one of her foster sisters.  She is really liking the dogs life here in her foster home :)

She is scheduled to be spayed on July 23rd. So after that she will be ready to join her new family whoever that may be. She just wants to keep living the dogs life and have lots of love. If you are interested in Onyx please contact your placement coordinator and you won't be sorry, she has lots of love to give back. We are going to the cabin soon so we will take lots of pictures and let you know how she likes to swim.
