Otis 08-204

Profile

I am very pleased to present Otis!  Otis just arrived today and has taken everything in stride.  He is a handsome 7 year old neutered male.  Otis was born July 26, 2001, so that makes him a little over 6.5 years old.  Otis knows some commands and will also offer you his paw if you ask.  He is housetrained and met both of our resident dogs without any issue - Cinder told him she was the boss, and Sawyer thinks he's going to make a great new playmate!  Otis handled the sniff-fest just fine and was wagging his tail the whole time.  Otis has lived with kids and a small dog.  We don't have a cat here, but supposedly he's afraid of them since he was scratched on the nose as a puppy.  On Tuesday he goes in for a vet visit to get him up to date.  He had a pretty long car ride today and was just fine - I think he napped the whole time we drove from Mpls to our home.  Otis is also crate trained.  It also sounds like he loves water and enjoys boating with his family as well.

Otis is super sweet and loves people.  He has that nice golden leeeeaaaan down perfectly.  This dog is sure a charmer!  He was given up only because in the move from a country home to a city setting, Otis would check out the neighbor's garbage as he was not contained in any way to his own yard.  We're going to get him bathed and brushed today and he's going to look just swell!

Email placementatragom [dot] org if you are interested, or contact your placement advisor - Otis sure is a nice dog!  And doesn't he have the best grin?

Otis is one healthy kid!  He had his vet appointment today and did very well, even if he was kind of a baby about having to go "in the back" and get his shots and blood drawn.  However, he checked out just fine.  Otis weighs about 84 pounds and could stand to lose about 5, according to his vet.  He is now up to date on all his shots and microchipped.  Otis charmed everyone, except for a very overweight and cranky English Bulldog.

After having Otis here a couple of days now, I think he probably would be happiest if he was the only dog in the house.  He nicely tolerates Sawyer, but I think he would like all the attention for himself, thank you very much.  It would be great if his new family committed to taking him to obedience.  Otis definitely knows some commands, but it will help a ton with bonding and Otis really looks to his people in situations that are new to him.  At the very least, he will make you look pretty good at class!  He's pretty good on a leash and I haven't tried a Gentle Leader on him - I'm not sure that he needs one, really.  Oh, and he's always cruising the countertops looking for something you might have forgotten, so be sure to keep things put back!

And now for the good news - Otis is meeting a family tomorrow!  Make sure that you keep your fingers and paws crossed that they fall in love with him.  He's been practicing his leaning and his grin ever since I told him someone wanted to meet him.  Whoever adopts Otis will have to be willing to put up with Foster Mom getting a little emotional when he goes home for good.  This guy deserves the best!

What?  Vet?  I thought we were going for a walk!!

Haha, so I says to the vet "Me?  I'm not scared at all!"

Is Cinder looking at me?  I'm showing off my best side....

Hey!  A family?  For ME??  I can't wait to meet them!!
