Ozzie 07-435

Profile

It is with great pleasure that I introduce “Ozzie,” a handsome 3 year old Golden/Lab mix. Ozzie is what foster parents refer to as  a “dream foster.” He is housebroken, knows basic commands, does not guard food or toys from humans, loves being groomed, comes to us for attention, and loves to play! He is a sweetheart and ready for a forever home of his own!

Ozzie is getting along great with our 6 year old resident Golden, Jedi. They have already become good buddies and haven’t had any barking or snapping at all. He met the neighbor’s dog, Max, a 2 year old Golden. Max and Jedi both wanted the same ball while playing even though there were six balls in the yard! These youngsters, just like kids, need to learn to share. The more “mature” Jedi just watched with muted amusement. Mentally, Goldens remain puppies for a long time (up to two or three years of age) and many are playful and clownish for most of their lives. Ozzie still has a few more years to grow up!

When it comes to walks, we will have to work with Ozzie on heeling. He kept getting ahead of me and going around in circles to show me how excited he was... it was truly comical because Jedi just kept looking at him and backing away thinking the tornado was going to hit him any moment. A Gentle Leader and obedience training will help this young Golden succeed! He is willing to please and loves people!

Ozzie exhibits some typical Labrador behaviors. He is ball crazy and has lots of energy. I had to hide his favorite ball so he would quit trying to get everyone to play!  He is obsessed with balls! He loves running around in circles all the time... always wants to play, and is really good at fetching. He drops the ball and then runs around in circles again asking you to throw again. Very cute! He will make some lucky family a great playmate, jogging or cross country skiing partner, and devoted friend.

The perfect home for Ozzie will have an active family who will give him all the attention he deserves, be committed to further obedience training, and willing to play ball and exercise him daily. Ozzie is neutered but will visit a RAGOM vet this week to make sure he is up to date on his shots. If you are interested in meeting Ozzie, please contact placementatragom [dot] org and be sure to bring some tennis balls along!

From Ozzie's forever family...

Ozzie joined our family on January 1, 2008. He settled into our home quickly, and has been nothing but the perfect dog. Ozzie’s absolutely obsessed with tennis balls, Frisbees, sticks – anything he can fetch, really. He’s an energetic guy, so we’ve spent lots of time playing with the Chuck-It. Would you believe you can actually wear out a Chuck-It?

Ozzie’s best friend, Buddy, lives next door. Buddy’s dad is retired, so he picks Ozzie up most days around lunchtime to play for the afternoon. My husband and I pick him up each night after work – sort of like having our own private doggie day care right next door.

He’s also learned how to run alongside of the bike as I ride, which is a great way to tire him out a bit. We discovered the Otter Lake dog park this spring, and have made lots of wonderful friends in the past few months.

I can’t even remember what life was like pre-Ozzie – pretty boring, to say the least.

Thanks to all of the RAGOM volunteers and supporters, for all you do!

See you all at the picnic!

Hello everyone!!!! I am soooooooooo excited and happy - I found my forever home :) This is the best thing that has happened to me for a really long time.  OK, other than my foster family, of course (I know FM reads my page, and I just don't want her feelings hurt :( and I will miss Jedi, too).  But come on folks, 'I FOUND MY FOREVER HOME!!!!! YIPEE!! I AM SO EXCITED AND HAPPY!!!' Oops, sorry about the yelling ;)

Well, FM says they are really nice people and they will love me and give me a great home.  Also I will be the only kid at home...no one to share treats and hugs with :) Can't beat that!!!  Well gtg now, my folks are here to take me home.  H' asta la vista baby!!!!

Hi everyone! Howz it going? It's been a while since my last update. So here's what's been going on for the last few weeks:

I had someone come visit me - to adopt me, you know, but things did not work out, so I am back out there again looking for a wonderful family. I think I need to give some serious thought to the kind of family/home that would work best for all involved, and add that to my web page... homework for next week! Sigh! That means less play time. :(

Well, on the bright side, I got to go stay with Gail and Zoom while the muggle family went off on vacation. Foster Mom (FM) says she missed me a lot, and wished I was out there with her - yeah right! I did not even get a postcard from her... hah! But, I had loads of fun playing with Zoom and I overheard Gail telling my FM I am a peach. ;) U bet I am a wonderful boy - and so humble too!

I have some new pics from this weekend's play time. Now that I was away for a week, Jedi seems to want to play with me even more - absence makes the heart fonder I guess.

PS: I did not get to go to the Renaissance Faire on September 8. FM had to pick me up from Gail's on Friday. Bummer!

I let Jedi have the ball this time!

Someone get the ball, please.

Say "cheese"!

Treat time yet?

Ozzie got to go to a party the other evening, where he played with half a dozen other Goldens and Labrador Retrievers. He had a lot of fun chasing after the ball and got along nicely with all the other dogs--even when the competition got fierce!  Yay, Ozzie!

Ozzie and his opponent Katie focus on the ball as it's about to be thrown.

But Bogie gets to it first--THIS time.

"Oooh ooh! Me me me!  Throw it to ME!"

"I got it!  I got it!"

Ozzie returns with the ball, with host dog Robbie just behind him.

Look out!  Chaz goes high for the ball and almost lands on top of Ozzie.

But this time it's Ozzie's turn, and he goes low and snags the ball right out from under Chaz's nose.

"That was fun!  Can we have a party every day?"
