Panora 07-375

Profile

Meet Nora!  She is a sweet and shy Golden Lab mix.  Our best guess is that she is 6 months old. She was found as a stray with her brother, Einstein 07-376, in Iowa.  She is small--I can't imagine she weighs much more than 30 pounds and you can feel all her ribs.  We will get to work on putting some weight on her and showing her all of the joys of being a loved RAGOM dog!

Panora has met the two resident dogs as well as Apollo 07-313 who we are dog-sitting tonight.  She really enjoys the company of other dogs and gives some little nervous whines when she can't see one of the other dogs in the house. While she isn't sure about people, you can tell that she's quickly deciding petting is OK, and she is soaking up the attention.  We will write more as we get to know her.

Nora is officially at her forever home now! She is now the newest member of the "B" family where she will be adored, spoiled and loved to bits. She lives with her new canine brother, Tori (a former RAGOM dog), a canine sister, Maggie, a rescued senior cocker spaniel, and their mom, R. I tried to take some photos of the play action going on when I dropped her off tonight, but it's hard to photograph two romping dogs. I don't think the photos need to be in perfect focus to see the sibling love connection!

Thank you, R, for adopting Nora. Over the past month we have watched her grow from a dog too scared to come out from underneath the coffee table to the happy puppy bounding around your backyard tonight. I can't wait to see her continue to grow and blossom in your family. We could not have imagined a more perfect home for her and I am so very excited for all of you.

We love you little Nora!
Love, Auntie K (formerly known as "Foster Mom")

Hi Everyone,  Wow this week has been busy and full of some big firsts for me! Foster mom said she is working on "expanding my horizons" -- turns out that means she takes me to new places. They seem a little scary at first, but then I always figure out that they are really safe and fun places where I get to meet new people who give me treats, scratch under my chin and tell me how cute I am.  On Sunday, mom took all of us (Bishop, me and Reuben 07-411) over to a friend's house to play with her Goldens. One of the resident dogs there, Zach, showed me how much fun it is to DIG! Woohoo! We dug in the yard and we dug in the garden -- good times! Foster mom and her friend were not too impressed with us though and kept telling us to "knock it off." I got all muddy and they said it looked like I was doing my best Dalmatian impression. I am not sure what that is, but I had a lot of black dirt spots on me. After we went home I had to have a bath and then mom and dad took me to obedience class with Bishop. I just went to watch and check things out. I sat off to the side with dad and he fed me lots of hot dog pieces. After class was over I got to run around with the trainer's dogs and that was fun!  Monday morning, foster mom told me that I am a brave girl now so she is not going to feed me in my safe spots anymore. If I want to have breakfast or dinner I have to eat in the dining room like a "normal dog." Fine by me--as long as I don't have to go in the kitchen, I am totally OK with that deal. I just am not sure about that weird flooring in there. Mom tells me it's just linoleum and "it won't bite" but I am not so sure yet...  On Tuesday, after work, we were going to go on a walk but it started to rain. All of us dogs were so excited about the walk that we would not calm down and just accept that it was raining so instead we all piled in the car and went to Petco to walk around. I got a brand new hot pink collar and a new squeaky ball. I also went up to the store manager for petting after I saw how much Bishop was enjoying it. Foster mom said I was very brave. Apparently Wednesday was a "holiday" because no one had to work! My foster brother, Bishop is very scared of fireworks so in the morning we met some friends at a big park for him to burn off some energy. I guess it's a "dog park" because there were a lot of dogs there all running around without leashes! They looked like they were having a lot of fun, but foster mom said that I had to stay on a leash because if I got scared she didn't want me to run away. When we stopped at the pond she did hook a couple of leashes together so that I could run in the water with all the other dogs. She also let me wander off in the tall grass as far as the leash would take me. She said it looked like I was on safari. All of the people there had dogs with them, so they seemed pretty safe to me. I didn't get scared or try to hide when they walked by me. There was one lady at the dog park who looked so nice I went up and let her pet me even though there were no other dogs doing it and I had never met her before. Mom said that was "awesome!" I am getting much braver now in new situations -- sometimes when I am unsure I still hide between foster mom's legs, but sometimes I just sit down and watch what is going on until I am sure it is safe and then I join in on the action.  The last thing foster mom said I have to share is that I sleep through the night now without waking up to go outside. Also, as long as mom and dad are smart about getting me outside on a regular basis I don't have any accidents in the house. They say the accidents I do have are "their fault" now. Jeez, I don't know why foster mom is making me share my bathroom habits with the entire world, but there you go. I am so embarrassed.  Foster mom turned on Animal Planet on when she left for work this morning, so I have to go catch up on my Animal Cops and Meerkat Manor. Bye for now!  Love, Nora

This weekend we have been dog-sitting Reuben 07-411. It has been fun to see the difference in personalities between Nora and Ru. Nora is higher energy and loves to run and play and wrestle in the backyard. She has way more stamina than Reuben. Ru, on the other hand, is not quite as active, but much more of a clown and mischievous than Nora. He is the first one to go grab a new toy (or a new non-toy) to chew on. He is also up, down and all over the couch like a little monkey. They have shared their food bowls, dog beds and toys all weekend without a problem -- which is a good thing since both dogs seem to think that whatever the other puppy has it the most interesting object in the room. I've included photos of the puppers enjoying their first Frosty Paws on Saturday.

Tonight Nora is going to accompany Bishop and I to our Obedience II class. She is just going to observe and get a little more socialization with dogs and people. She is still a huge snuggle bug and routinely seeks us out for petting and snuggling in the house. This past week Nora spent a couple of hours with a 9 year old boy and she did great with him! They were running and playing all over the yard. I think that Nora would be happy in a family with one or two kids that are old enough to understand that sometimes she gets a little scared.

Just a couple of cute new photos of Nora (now that we have replaced the camera cable that she chewed up - ha!). She continues to thrive in foster care and she is over 30 pounds now. This weekend we gave her a bath and then brushed out a bunch of dead old hair -- she could have done a Furminator commercial with everything that came out of her. She has started chasing the tennis ball in the yard -- she doesn't bring it back all the time, but she loves to bound after it.

Nora is a sweetheart!  Nora is a beautiful little girl -- cream fur with blond highlights. She still doesn't trust humans 100%, but if you are holding hot dogs you are OK.  If you lure her out of her safe spots (under the coffee table and under the desk) she will lay quietly next to you as long as you want to pet her, but as soon as you are done she is back to her safe spot.  If she thinks the people in the house aren't watching, she will follow the resident dogs around but as soon as she catches you watching she runs for the safe spots.  As I type this she is whining and carrying on because she has noticed the resident cats (who are sleeping on a chair) for the first time.  The whole production is pretty funny and I think it's safe to say that she would be fine in a forever home with cats once she stops crying about it!  We have a couple of new photos of Nora from tonight -- including one that shows a good size comparison for her -- the resident dog in the photo is 11lbs -- the photo also reveals the hot dog secret behind the rest of the photos.
