Paxton 08-092

Profile

Hello, my name is Paxton! I arrived in my foster home a couple days ago after living in a Brainerd rescue shelter for nearly a month. Brrr, is it cold up there! I'm about two years old, very sweet, extremely happy and playful and everyone tells me I have the softest fur around. I'm also proud to say I have some incredibly white teeth! I love to play in the snow, snuggle and carry stuffed animals around the house.

I've had a lot of fun since arriving in my foster home but I was initially a little apprehensive about climbing the stairs. However, I quickly overcame my fear and I now race up and down the stairs just like the two resident dogs! Speaking of the resident dogs, I get along great with them and I even get along with the cat....who finally came out from under the bed today so I could get a good look at him.

In the coming days my foster daddy is going to take me to the doggy doctor and get me checked out. Other than that, I'm just going to hang around here for a while and get to know my new foster family a little better and enjoy the "balmy" (compared to Brainerd) weather.

Hello All! Paxton here and I'm happy to report I am doing well after my little surgery today. I had a procedure done to correct a hernia and I had to spend much of the day resting at the doctor's office rather than at my foster home doing what I usually do.....which is carrying daddy's slippers from room to room, trying to engage one of the resident girls in some harmless canine fun, "wrestling" with stuffed squirrels and snoozing with the cat and the girls.

My foster dad says I can be a little mischievous from time to time but he thinks it's cute.....especially when I flash him the cutest smile ever. And he knows that I just like having a harmless fun. The girls understand I like to play a lot, too. Sometimes they're in the mood to have a little fun with me and sometimes they'd rather just stand and watch me run back and forth in the backyard and tire myself out. They are all amazed at how good I am at entertaining myself. What can I say....I'm just a happy and playful Golden!

Here are a few more facts about me:

  • I love riding in the car! And I am always very well behaved when doing so.
  • I love snow. It is fun to roll around in and it's fun to eat, too!
  • I am a really good sleeper at night. I never wake anyone up and I get to sleep wherever I want, which is usually on the bed next to Katie and the cat or by myself on the sofa.
  • I hate to brag but I recently learned how to shake hands. My left hand.
  • I love to snuggle and give kisses and hide slippers!

While the adorable Paxton is napping with the resident dogs I thought I'd take this opportunity to give an update on Paxton's surgery, which was scheduled for last week. Well, it was postponed at least a couple of weeks. The results of the blood work he had done before the surgery indicated that his white blood cell count was low and the vet wisely decided to delay his surgery. Paxton is currently on a course of antibiotic for two weeks. After he finishes his antibiotics, we'll go back to the doctor and have his blood work checked again. If all is well, the surgery to fix his hernia can be performed.

In the meantime, Paxton continues to do well in his foster home. He is a joy to have around. My dogs love him. My cat even likes him. He is super-friendly and playful, loves car rides, is a great snuggle buddy and is basically a wonderful boy!

Getting cozy with Katie

Hello Everyone,

My first week in foster care has been a fun one! I've gone for car rides, I've been to the park a few times, I got to meet Grandma and I've barked at a few deer. That's a full week in my book. I've also gotten to know my foster family pretty well and they've gotten to know me. For instance, they've learned just how sweet I really am. And that my tail is always wagging. And that I am very playful. And I love to run around in the backyard. And that I am well-mannered.....most of the time (hey, a guy's gotta have a little fun now and then!). Here at my foster home I get the run of the house, along with the two cute resident dogs and the cat, and it's been working out great. I haven't caused any mischief!

Foster daddy took me to see the nice doggy doctor this week! I weighed in at 53 pounds....a little lite, but I'm still growing. The doctor said I was a healthy young guy but I have an umbilical hernia, which I am scheduled to have fixed on Wednesday. It shouldn't be a big deal and, after a little time to recover, I should be good as new. Maybe even better.

I've been thinking about what kind of forever home I would like to live in and I definitely want a home with a fenced in yard. Foster daddy calls me a "Flight Risk", not necessarily because I want to get away, but because I'm a young boy who loves to run and could easily get lost.

I'll let you know how my surgery goes this week!
