Profile

Peaches came to RAGOM from a commercial breeder and is learning about life in a loving home where she enjoys attention and looking at herself in the mirror. She is very friendly with people but is still frightened by noises and things she's not familiar with. Peaches will need a home with another medium to large, confident dog as her role model. Children in her forever home must be at least 10 years old. Peaches cannot live with cats, and because she has a strong prey drive, she requires a physically fenced yard.

Great news for sweet Peaches! She has found her forever home. She will have a couple of Golden siblings, a fenced yard and daily walks. She will get lots and lots of love in her forever home.

Her new family will strive to pet her as much as possible, but can't guarantee that there will be petting 24/7 (as she seems to want). This is a very happy day for her new family as well as for Peachy-Pie!

Peaches has been doing well! She continues her daily vigil at the window, where she monitors the squirrel and rabbit population. So far, she has kept us all safe from any invasions by these outside interlopers.

We had a puppy visiting a few days ago. She is a four month old Golden Doodle. Peaches was not happy during the visit. The puppy was energetic but not obnoxious. My other dogs were fine with her. Peaches growled when the puppy came too close.

We went outside to play with the puppy and another dog friend. All of my resident dogs went outside, but Peaches refused to go out. She sat at the window for about half an hour and glared at the proceedings. Not sure what she was thinking, but it was clear that she did not want to get stuck with puppy sitting duties!

There have not been many changes in Peaches' life lately, so not much to report. She continues her constant vigil at the window protecting us from squirrel and rabbit invaders. She told me the other day that she seems to be the only one in the household who is NOT retired. My fingers are crossed that no mama rabbits try to raise a litter of babies in my backyard this spring…

I have attached a photo of Peaches taking a break and using a tennis ball bagel as a nose rest. I didn't realize it had purposes other than just being fetched.

Last week as we were out on one of our many walks a passing car slowed down. The driver rolled down the window and shouted, "Hi Peaches!" Her popularity spreads far and wide.

Peaches is getting more enthusiastic (obsessed) with the animal activity outside. One day I heard a wheezing noise and saw that Peaches was so focused on the outdoor activity that she had squashed her nose against the window (see photo below).

She is now patrolling from the bedroom to the kitchen to another room if a squirrel leaves her line of sight. It is a full-time job for her.

On our walk today we had to stop three times so that Peaches could have a "love fest" with people we met along the way. She always looks at new people as if she has NEVER, EVER been petted! Sometimes it is quite a job to get her to continue walking again.

Peaches is doing great. Her incision is healed from her spay. She got a shot to help with her allergies and so her scratching has decreased. She is very close to her ideal weight, so we are happy about that.

She continues to be on daily squirrel and bunny patrol. Sometimes she gets so excited that she barks, but mostly she maintains a silent vigil.

She has made many friends on our daily walks as she is quite the schmoozer! Our daily walks will be stopped by the below zero weather for a few days, but then we will be back out.

Peaches has been sleeping in a crate lately by her own choice. The crate has a thick orthopedic bed, so maybe she just likes how comfy it is.

Peaches found a glove on one of our walks and she carried it all the way home. As you can see in the photo, she held it as she watched for squirrels. She is one of those Goldens who likes to carry things that she finds thus living up to her retriever name!

She was spayed on Tuesday so has not had a great week. First, she had the trauma of getting into the car, and then I had to leave her for the surgery. I am sure that now she is convinced that NOTHING good can come from car rides!

When she came home, she had to wear the dreaded cone whenever I couldn’t watch her. She has been good about not licking her incision. She was nauseated for the first 24 hours or so, but now she seems to feel normal. We have taken a few short walks and hope to get back to our regular walking schedule next week.

One bit of great news is that she now weighs 74 pounds. Our twice-daily walking has paid off! I think she looks good now but will see what the vet says. She has to go back to the vet next week to have her ears tested for infection. She scratches frequently and I think her ear problems are related to that. Allergies can cause ear problems. I am relieved that the spay is done and that she is healing well.

Peaches went into heat. She is due to be spayed next month, so this will be her last time. She has been very affectionate and vocal recently. She is still on squirrel patrol - the photo below shows her multitasking. She can be on guard and hold a toy at the same time!

With the snowfall, I discovered that Peaches likes to roll around while we are on walks. She is not easily convinced to stop her rolling. At one point, we were on a down slope and she laid on her back and slid down the sidewalk as I continued walking.

When we are on walks, Peaches goes up to nearly everyone for attention. I have started telling people that she is running for office.

One bit of naughtiness - she found my iPhone and crunched the screen. I don't know where it was, it might have been on the floor after falling from my pocket.

Can't blame her if it was on the floor already...... I was doing some painting and she was "helping" me by peeling off the masking tape that I had put around the woodwork. She is a busy girl and SUPER sweet!

I have worked with Peaches to get her more comfortable with the car. We had to test her training today, as she had a vet appointment. I decided to put her in the front seat on the floor so that I could pet her while we drove.

She came closer to the car than before, but I still had to lift her front paws into the car and then hoist her butt in. It was a tight squeeze, but we got her tucked in. She drooled while we drove, but I think she was less stressed than the last time.

Her vet visit was short (just a booster shot). We were disappointed that she lost only one pound. She is getting lots of exercise and not much food! I am encouraged that Peaches will be able to ride more easily in the car with more patience and conditioning.

Peaches will not need cable in her new home. As long as she has access to a window, she is completely entertained. She is obsessed with watching any and all wildlife in my yard. As you can see from the pictures, she is an alert watcher!

I went to the thrift store and came home with two bags full of stuffed toys. Peaches loves to carry a toy around like it is a baby. She gets excited when she is carrying the "babies". She whines and wags her entire rear end.

She also tries to carry toys into the back yard. I have to check her mouth before she goes out of the door. The toy in this picture was not stuffed, but she just looks goofy with it in her mouth.

Peaches is terrified of riding in the car. She does not want to get in or out of my car. I am going to work with her on this. Unfortunately, we have another vet trip in two weeks and she will have to brave the car again.

While Peaches is super friendly with people, she can still panic when presented with strange experiences. It will take time and patience to help her with her fears.

Peaches has had quite a week since she came to RAGOM from a commercial breeder in Missouri. First there was a long car ride to Minnesota, then the car ride from Minnetonka to Robbinsdale.

After being coaxed out of her crate in the car, Peaches met her three new dog friends (two girls and a boy) and her new foster mom. She was a bit overwhelmed with all of this, so took a couple of hours in a crate to relax.

When she came out, she was eager to explore the house with her nose to the floor the whole time. So many scents! In her explorations we discovered that Peaches loves reflections of herself! Here she admires herself in the mirror and likes what she sees.

On her first walk with my resident dogs, Peaches was fearful and balky. She was especially startled by cars driving by on the highway. I can happily report that after a week of twice daily walks, she is vastly improved and doing well.

Peaches has a STRONG urge to chase squirrels and rabbits. She is also VERY friendly to all people we encounter. She sits in front of them and expects to be petted.

Peaches is six years old. She recently weaned her last litter, so needs to be spayed. She has infections in both ears and at 84 lbs, she's about 20% overweight. She is very much a Velcro dog. Loud noises startle her.

Much more information about this sweet girl in the coming updates.
