Introducing Miss Pearl. She is a beautiful Flat Coat Retriever. Pearl is 11 months old; her birthday is coming up soon.
Our little girl is spayed, up-to-date on her shots and on preventative meds. She still needs to get into our vet for her wellness checkup, but she appears to be a healthy girl. We have been working on switching her over to a higher quality dog food in the hopes she will not be so stinky when she goes potty.
Pearl is not a fan of meeting new people, especially men. It takes her quite a while to get comfortable enough to relax around anyone new. She attached very quickly to Foster Mom and has become my shadow. It has certainly helped that I work from home 3 days and only have to kennel her 1 day, since the other day her foster dad is home.
Pearl is pretty good at occupying herself while I work. She will hide her ball under a blanket and then pounce on the blanket to find the ball. It’s so funny to watch her.
When she sees our neighbors outside, she barks and makes these puffing sounds and will run away if they approach our fenced yard. Poor Pearl is very under socialized and will need a lot of practice to learn people are not going to hurt her.
She does require slow introductions and time for her to relax before approaching her for any pets. There’s not a lot we know about her early days, but she came into RAGOM because her second home had a male dog that did not like her so that made life difficult for everyone.
She loves to play with her squeaky ball and is pretty good about bringing it back and dropping it so you can throw the ball again. Pearl loves going on walks. We tried the flat collar on our first walk, but she was so busy needing to sniff everything on the ground it was difficult to make any progress.
The second walk went much better using a Gentle Leader. We are able to get in a 2-mile walk in the mornings before it gets too hot. Once she has a good walk she will settle right down and likes to have her toys within reach.
Pearl can live with other dogs but has not been tested with cats. Children in her forever home should be age 8 or older, as Pearl still thinks jumping is OK and could knock a younger child over. A physical fence is optional as long as her family has a plan to keep her safe.
If you’re interested in becoming Pearl’s family, you will have to be dedicated to her growth and development, and continue to expose her to all the wonderful things in life. Pearl will need time to adapt to any new environment.
Closed to Applications: Many families have submitted applications for Pearl or she is working with an applicant for a potential adoption.
