Penny 06-440

Profile

10/6/06: Pretty Penny arrived in Rochester two nights ago. She is a very dainty 10 year old lady who is in need of lots of TLC. She was rescued from a farmer in Iowa who was going to shoot her and her sister Jenny. (Jenny was placed in a loving home by her rescuer.) Penny spent her life outside, being asked to produce lots of puppies and when she was unable to have more babies, her time was up. Fortunately, a very loving person saved her and now she is going to live out her life in the loving embrace of RAGOM.

Penny is a sweet sweet little girl. She weighs 59 pounds, which is a little slim, but a good weight for her height. She is scared, but is really gaining self confidence. She loves to be petted, and is going to be someone's ultimate Velcro dog.

Penny needs some continued vetting. She never visited a vet in her life, so she has just been given her very first vaccinations. She handled the trip to the vet with great courage and charmed everyone there. She needs to be spayed and have a very badly infected canine tooth removed. She was heartworm and Lyme free (YAY!), but had a very bad case of fleas. (BOO! ICK ICK!) Two doses of Frontline seems to have done in the bugs, and everyone in our house has been dosed. I spent the last two nighs dreaming of creepy crawlies!!

Penny is fine with kids and cats, but is learning to not be afraid of our three dogs. She is protective of her dog bed and likes to growl a little when Rosie walks by. She is told SH! and she stops. I hope part of her 'tude is due to not feeling well and change in circumstance. She's a little overwhelmed!

Penny can meet potential adopters, but must stay in foster care until she's spayed and recovered.

We are looking forward to posting her "after" Extreme Makeover photos. She will be getting a spa treatment this weekend after the Frontline finishes it's job!

If you are interested in meeting Miss Penny, please contact placementatragom [dot] org.

Hi Everyone!

Pretty Penny Penster Pup-in-the-Snow here! I am so lucky to live in Rochester 'cuz I got to play in a FOOT of snow today!! Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!! This stuff is cool! Literally! No, really! It's cool!!

I do have to report I did a bad thing yesterday. I was busy playing fetch with my Fostermom and Shane took my toy, which is really my baby. Y'all know how I feel about that toad-head so I went after him to get my toy back. Yes. I. Did. And you know what happened? I got my butt kicked. Rosie and Shane jumped me and we duked it out in the yard. Fostermom was trying to break us up (*sorry Momma, I was just trying to get Shane..the toad-head*) but I just hung on. I never did get my baby back. I was really mad so I went a laid in my crate the rest of the night. Oh, ok, I did come out for dinner, but that was it.

So this morning, Foster mom was petting me and drying me off after I went pee in the snow and she discovered a really big owie on my shoulder. So, she called the vet and they said.."Get here quick before we close due to the weather!" So off we went. Even the vet was impressed with the butt-kicking I took. Sheesh. So I have six staples on my shoulder, which isn't too bad, but the indignity is that they SHAVED all the boo-boos I got. So now I'm wearing a bright yellow tee-shirt so I don't lick my boo-boos. I'm not sure if I'm going to come to the PetCo event on Sunday in Woodbury because I'm just not looking my best. My Foster folks said they would wait til Sunday to decide. A girl's gotta look her best before meeting her public, you know.

My Foster mom also scheduled me for my spay and dental work on Tuesday, and she promised it won't hurt. She ought to know I'm a tough girl by now, but I am scared of an operation. That sounds scary!

My vet wanted me to tell you that I am really good with babies. There were little puppies at the clinic for a visit and I was very, very interested in them and wanted to make sure they were ok. I sat right by their crate and protected them. I love babies. I don't love Shane. He's a BIG baby. I love little babies. And gentle old lady dogs. And cats of all sizes are ok, too.

Can someone please adopt me soon before I'm forced to take drastic measures? I sent away for my Acme supplies and Foster mom doesn't know it, but I have a drafting table in my crate so I can build my Acme Shane Disposal Rocket once it gets here.

Thanks.

And yes, I am laughing in this one picture. I think I had a day dream about whipping Shaner the Toad Head.

Shane thinks it's unfashionable to wear banana yellow after Labor Day. I disagree.I see teenager shoveling.Yup, you're doing it right.

Penny was just out playing in the yard and decided to pose for some more glamour shots.

She was playing fetch and backyard dog bowling. I was being a bad foster mom... I would wait 'til Shane, Rosie and Lizzie were standing together and I'd pitch Penny's toy right into their midst and Penster would haul right in and snatch the toy away from them. It's a fun way for Penny to get used to being in their company, and no one growled. Unfortunately, she hightailed it out of the Golden Armada faster than my digital camera can take a picture!

She also decided to belt out "Feelings" at one point.

As you can see by the new photos of Pretty Penny Penster, she's definitely discovered the Golden Life!

She is a fetchin' fool and loves nothing more than carrying her slobbery froggy baby around, just waiting for someone to toss it for her! She is the queen of retrieve. She puts the "go get" in go getter!!

Her tail never stops wagging and it's usually just a blur. Penny likes to watch the goldfish, sniff the cats, grumble at our Golden armada and has no problem greeting us first thing in the morning with a rousing round of AROOOO!!!!

Penny needed a quick vet vist last weekend for a few staples. Not office supply staples either, staples to close up a couple of booboos imposed by our gang. Penny has been pretty grumbly (she's in heat) and someone pushed her, she pushed back and her face accidentally got caught on someone's teeth. It looks worse than it really is. Too bad the accidental tooth-face fracas didn't happen a week or so later since Pen would be halfway to her Frankendoggy costume for Halloween. Things have settled down this week as Penny's hormones have eased off a little. Our gang is all like, "Chillllll outttt....." I caught Shane and Lizzie trying to talk Penny into taking some Midol.

Penny will require a home that is patient as she learns housetraining. She will happily go out every time the door opens, go pee, then come in and go pee again on the tile. She's so happy she could pee… but we are working on reinforcing that all peeing, including happy peeing, must be done outside. She's much better, but does forget once in a while.

Penster has shown us that she probably hunted in her previous life. She loves to retrieve. LOVES it. And is very steady and calm when she gently picks up her toy, returns it, and walks around to my left, behind me, up on my right to sit, very pretty, right at my feet and drop the toy in my outstretched hand. She is very proud of herself when she plays and this has helped her bring out her personality. She's a girl with a job that she loves!

We also think someone introduced her to Frosty Paws... every new dog we've introduced them to doesn't quite know how to "hold" them to lick out the ice cream. We need to teach them about the joys of ice cream. Penny? Took the little cup, sat right down, hooked her toenails on the lip of the cup and acted like this was Frosty Paws # 324.

Otherwise, not much new to report. Just waiting to get her a second round of vaccs, then spayed and she will be ready for her forever home!

Penny on the run.Happy tail.Does this make my legs look short?Smiling Penny.
