Penny (Skye 19-042)

Profile

Skye came into RAGOM when her days as a breeder mama were over. Skye is a healthy girl but is very scared about all the changes in her life. She'll need time to adjust to home living. Skye is very skittish and needs a home with no children or children age 10+. Skye must have a confident dog companion in her new home to show her the ropes of being a house dog. A physical fence is required to keep her safe. The family who adopts Skye will need to patiently guide her as she becomes a happy, playful Golden girl.

Skye (Penny) has found her furever home! She’ll be joining two Golden “sisters” who will guide her through family life. Her future is bright as she experiences traveling, the beach, meeting new people and enjoying the good life. Her new family adores her and she’ll never be insecure again. But spoiled for sure!!

Skye is ready for her furever home! She’s recovering nicely from her spay and is getting braver every day. She still won’t take treats directly from our hand, but she’s considering it, especially when it’s cooked chicken.

She's getting really good at pottying outside. She loves her walks and this week she pottied while on her leash, not waiting to get back home to her yard. That’s a big deal!

She enjoys looking out the porch windows, scanning the landscape, along with the resident dogs. She barks very rarely, but if there’s some action outside, she sounds an alert! So funny and cute.

Skye is gaining more confidence every day.  She looks forward to her meals and eats without hesitance—if you’re not looking at her. She'll eat treats, but not from our hand yet. Skye likes to be with the rest of the pack and is not running to her safe place as much. When she does though, she comes back out looking for us.

Skye is very friendly after she determines you’re trustworthy and gets along well with our resident dogs. She's had no potty accidents, but we take her outside often. Last nite for the first time, she indicated she had to go out by pacing. Good girl!!

Skye doesn’t have an actual tail, but she’s just as cute without one. It’s like a little puffball back there!

Skye has been with her permanent foster for about two weeks now and is getting the hang of things. She’s not quite as skittish as her first day, is eating more comfortably and goes potty outside, but is still possibly prone to accidents as she’s not house trained.

She’s doing very well on leash after two weeks. The first couple of walks were scary, but now she walks so nicely. Skye does like to cross over in front of you but generally walks on the left. Traffic, although it’s been light, doesn’t seem to phase her.

Skye does not take treats from our hand, but will eat treats if they’re high quality, are left on her bed and we’re not watching. So cute and funny. There's been only one disagreement, when our confident resident dog wanted to help her eat her food. Skye put a stop to that and they still get along just fine.

She did some warning barking when she could see neighbor dogs walking by the backyard window. It was the first time we heard her bark. Skye is still in heat and allows us to put doggy pants on her and seems to like the attention. She’s a very sweet dog with a great personality, especially considering all the new changes in her life.

Welcome to RAGOM, Skye! Skye is a petite 6-year-old retired breeder mom with a soft, beautiful dark red coat. She weighs around 60 pounds and has shorter legs. She is slowly learning what it is like to live in a home.

Skye is still unsure about all the new sights and sounds she is being exposed to. She will often run a few steps away when she gets startled, but does appear curious about what scared her.

Skye met our two resident girls with no issue and seemed excited to see other dogs after her journey to South Dakota. She quickly learned how to go up and down stairs and where the best dog bed is.

We are still working on house training, but she is doing pretty well. She loves to move toys around our family room. She doesn't really play with them, just likes to reorganize them.

Skye stayed overnight with another foster and did great with their cat, but we haven't tested her at this point.

Skye will not be ready to go to her forever home for a little while yet. She is a sweet girl who will need a confident dog to help her be more comfortable.
